I think whether-or-not one believes that to be effective is a completely different argument. Granted, we'd be arguing on the ethics of disseminating private information, which it was not. Some folks here have argued that he's just a stupid kid who didn't really know the kind of trouble his game would cause. I could believe it, if only because he's young enough (very early twenties iirc) to have been targeted by groomers himself not long ago.

That said, I still think he has a responsibility to be informed on the kind of community his game is building, and if he chooses to ignore that then whatever happens is on him. Granted, he's nuking a bunch of stuff like his discord and some tweets (you could argue he's 'getting rid of evidence', you could argue he wants to start a new community with better oversight, we'll have to see).

In all fairness, the deleted posts in the boykisser thread, which this is about, were in fact arguing that parents have no meaningful responsibility and put the onus entirely on the developer. Quite a bit was expunged earlier today. It wasn't a very sound position and there have been better points made here.

Removed from that, I'd put large amounts of money on any given vulnerable or marginal youth of all kinds having negligent, abusive, or otherwise less than unconditionally loving and accepting parents and a questionable home life on top of that and the internet being an escape. I'm blaming the parents, but also couching it in that kind of shit everyone else in a position of true moral or legal authority has to account for when some trailer park kid acts like a piece of shit. Systemic failure.
