Assassin's Creed thread

Well I guess it was too much to hope that more people in the Assassin's Creed thread would actually like Assassin's Creed
Welcome to modern video game discourse. For every AC hater there's 500 enjoyers. People say modern AC is "generic and soulless", yet fail to realize modern AC is -why- we got a 'modern open-world rpg' template. The way you hold a trigger and use the face buttons to use an ability, and then shift between ability plates, is literally 1:1 added to other games like Hogwarts Legacy. Same cosmetic system and item salvaging. Skill trees. It's like saying Doom is cliche cause it's based on a game genre defined.. by Doom.

I still get hype as fuck seeing the intro to AC Mirage; each previous protagonist as a blac/gold statue, the music and all. It's one hell of a ride playing through all the AC games and they're both dirt cheap, readily available, and Ubisoft buckled and added achievements to the most recent ones on Steam. There are way, way worse franchises to be a fan of. Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla are each under $15 on sale and easily give you 100 hours of braindead open world RPG with some cool moments. I still love diving onto people of importance and seeing the whole world pause for that limbo conversation they always have. And I didn't even grow up with AC.

Shadows will suck major dick, sure, but that's expected, and I expect to buy it at $20 in 14 months. The question is whether it'll be gay and diverse like other modern pieces of media, or like, BEYOND gay and diverse like Veilguard, where you get 4 ways of saying the exact same thing and not influencing the plot at all. I can take some they/them in a cutscene I'll skip anyway, but if they straight up remove choices, I'll probably still buy it discounted. Because AC is braindead RPGness and no other IP really does that. God of War turned into a corridor runner and Witcher is dead in the water.

Original AC? I tried a few times and vibed the most with Syndicate. Conquering territories and upgrading your gang was kino as fuck. Brotherhood had a great minigame system in the missions and that too. I'd love a modern take on building up a brotherhood but doesn't really fit into a narrative of "first hood ass nigga killa in japan" I guess.

'Assassin's Creed' Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté: "Video Games Can Change The World" By "Changing People"

Featuring an African protagonist as the main character in a samurai story set during the Sengoku period is not about "changing the world"; it is a historical rewrite intended to fit a fabricated diversity narrative that nobody wanted or asked for. This approach is seen as disrespectful to Japanese culture and history. The hubris of this idiot is infuriating.
Is the Animus still around in AC lore? What if: somebody in the Animus was reprogrammed to BELIEVE that Yasuke was a prominent figure in feudal history? If Ubisoft wants to backtrack, they could do a side story of Animus corruption of revisionist history and modern politics. It'd be a better, relatable spin than this nonsense.

It is, and Abstergo's cover story in Black Flag's modern day plot was that they were a video game dev hiring you to use the Animus to delve into history to find things to edit or curate into a product that would serve as propaganda.

I'm sure that Ubi is so retarded they fail to see the irony.

I haven't even played AC like that, even I knew a way out for Ubisoft's franchise and lore. How down bad.

Just 100%'d Mirage. I fail to see how it's a return to "old AC". More environmental traps? Insta stealth kills? Rest felt pretty modern AC. Jerking off in a bush whistling instead of designing good patrol routes with natural traps along the way. When'd we last push someone over a balcony? And I remember in previous games seeing few chances to double-stab but holy shit it was nonstop in Mirage, yet you can't. Cause it's not a move in that game. Like, at least 4-5 chances to double stab in each combat area.
God, I loved opening up big fight sequences with a double-stab, following by chaining everyone to death.

I have to say though, I have thoroughly enjoyed this shitshow.

  • historical research of said nigger comes from a history professor in Japan that is actually a jew faking everything and citing himself on wikipedia
  • Nihon university figuring out that this fag was blackwashing Japanese history and firing him as he deletes everything
  • the focus on a nigger in Feudal Japan is because the lead writer is a monstrously obese BLM-loving white whore
  • some Japanese politicians start talking about the game's bullshit
  • Japanese audience making videos shitting on the game
  • the investors call where C-suite were skittish to answer a question about preorder numbers because they know the game is going to bomb
  • the most garbage animations in the series' history, can't even hide that shit in the trailers

Thank you Ubisoft. Your game is going to be dogshit and flop but at least this has been fantastic to follow. The comedy of this far surpasses the entertainment I've received from your last 4 Assassin's Creed games.

I'd like to correct one thing here. It wasn't a White guy, it was a Jew subverting history. No seriously, he's self-admittedly Jewish.

Okay not trying to be an asshole here, but are any of the games worth playing passed Black Flag. Because that's where I stopped and it seemed like peak.

Rogue is basically a mini Black Flag game. It is pretty short compared to a lot of the other games because they released this at the same time as Unity so people could still get their frequent AC fix without making the jump to next gen PS4/Xbox One. It's still enjoyable though.

Unity is fun. Parkour takes a bit of getting use to but Paris is probably one of their best done cities because there's all sorts of internal parts of a lot of buildings. The story is okay but it's not told well at all. The combat is still in the old AC2 style but parries don't result in autokills. It's a flawed but very fun game.

Syndicate is a neat concept and I enjoy the time period but the grappling hook bullshit really kills the fun of parkour and carriages get to be dull after a while. It's still fun to clear the map though. Story is a lot more clear, mainly because its more simple, and the characters aren't burdened by enormous tragedy so they are more entertaining. However you'll see some woke shit like helping Marx or some brief gay shit because this is done by Ubisoft Quebec, the same fags that are working on AC Shadows. If you can just tune out that shit, it's an alright game.

I can't comment on the RPG series (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla) because I started out enjoying them and eventually never finished them all because they're so bloated, especially Valhalla.

Yeah that's what I thought especially after trying to play Far Cry 5, it seemed like they just fill the map with shit and think it makes a fun game. I keep telling people level design is an art, and it should be respected.

, the parkour is totally neutered
the city just sucks. the wide streets and tall buildings mean at some point you have to zipline across like batman, and the river is a pain to cross. honestly outside of paris, ac3 onwards has just been fucking terrible for the parkour part of the gameplay. the cities are laughably small and not really suited for it. London being the exception, except the guns making combat a complete joke, and honestly it should have made combat harder, not easier. no one seems to go for a quick shot like they seemed to do in ac3 and 4.
People have been wanting an AC game set in feudal Japan for a decade plus, and Ubisoft manages to fuck it up. Slow clap for the shitty devs. Even slower clap for the even shittier publisher.
the main reason they didn't was probably layouts, like even the biggest places in japan probably sucked for parkour in the 1700s
