General GunTuber thread

Ehh, it depends. If you live in or very close to an urban area, I think getting good plates and a carrier, or concealable soft armor, is worth it in case we see another summer 2020 kind of situation again. For people in rural areas or towns decently away from urban hellholes, putting plate/carrier money toward NODs (and/or thermals) might very well be the smarter choice. It's very easy for ne'er-do-wells to acquire armor that's cheap and mostly works. NODs and thermals, on the other hand, are exceedingly rare in the hands of those kinds of people. Better for you to see them when they can't see you.
Plates are good but generally what people don't realise is you need manpower something Ukraine is now realizing.
You can have as many guns and ammo as you want if you don't have men to shoulder them also people who trust each other explicitly I know that no matter what happens they have your back so wonder if you call them up and said hey I need you to help me bury a body they would be over in a minute no questions asked.

Ben Stoeger did an interview with FocusTripp. When Ben's by himself and not trolling, he is quite articulate and productive. As one should expect from a professional instructor, I suppose. He's pretty strongly implying that Matt was forced to remove his internet presence by someone else. Presumably his employer. As long as he's had an online presence, Pranka has been appealing to authority by saying he still "goes down range" and "works for the government". Most of those contractor jobs for old SOF vets are just glorified security guards for the state department though.

Tripp is becoming one of my favorite guntubers, gonna be tied with Hop pretty dang soon

He sure didn't hold back in this video lmao
I want to like Tripp because his optic reviews are all on point and very solid. He just kind of annoys me in the way he seems to have a habit of getting involved in guntube drama despite him saying he doesn't want to be involved.

Yeah he does seem to be rolling with it a bit. It strikes me a little he still does dad advice at the end of his videos but I guess it's nit husband advice.

Really shame the dissident is $2500 cause it sure is cool.

Clip on's run about $3000. You can get out of band laser aiming modules and tubes that can see it and pretend it's GWOT all over again and go around blasting lasers and no one that has normal nods will be able to see it.

Not strictly guntoober content, but I wasnt sure where else would be a relevant board to link it. I present to you, the fighting 41st:
All I saw was a social club centered around men larping as women larping as operators. Flat range theatrics. The same kind of stuff too many conservatives spend far too much time on once they've attained a good standard of fundamentals and accuracy. Did they get all their tactical larp gear out for the cameras, or is that always how they train? Nobody's wearing that stuff when the door gets booted at 3 AM. It's not even clear what kind of confrontation they're training for. A shootout in the streets against a Right Wing Death Squad during a protest? The only halfway intelligent thing anyone said in this video was "if you're alone, you're going to die."

You notice at the very beginning there's a fire instruction that goes on for like 5 minutes "contact front troops......blah blah blah... take cover....blah blah blah"

Someones taught him to do it, but it's very much a case of someone in the military doing an annual 3 day ex, so they could pretend that 'soldier first' is really a thing. The biggest retard in the infantry would have immediately fired a couple of shots in the general direction of the enemy taken cover, crawled to a new fire position then given a target indication to the section commander behind him.

I'd get nostalgic only for the fact they're using live ammo, which is fucking crazy to me.

Apparently more things is appearing regarding the whole Matt Pranka/XRayAlpha and Hop/Brass Facts.

Seems to be a split between stuff strictly in competition of USPSA/IDPA/PSCL and that of say, citizen preparation or sustainment in the wilderness. Seems that Autonomous Defense doesn't view anything that has use outside of competition as useful gear or equipment and isn't worth looking into, or he thinks that things like FFP LPVOs, low light stuff, or NODs are useless. Yet his stances on speciality preperation equipment like thermals and drones seem to be in a circular fashion much like Prankas. He apparently thinks equipment is only useful if it's "reliable and lightweight". Also seems purposely avoidant of the possibility of civil unrest and natural disasters; despite American being as externally challenged and internally divided since the 70s. Government response to natural disasters like Katrina and Helene not being good.

Some of the things which are essential or can tip the odds greatly for citizen preparedness, defense, or sustainment like 1 gallon of water on person, 7+ rifle magazines on person, firestarting, NODs, active retention holsters, ballistic protection, water purification and filtration, water boiling are a hinderance for competition use.

Similarly much of the competition-centered equipment like extremely tall VEPR12 magazines, passive retention holsters, slanted competition mag pouches are extremely fast, yet would not be useful if engaging in laying in the prone or wilderness sustainment.

He also praises PSCL as a litmus of shooting skills, yet in my own experience with that type of competition there isn't any sort of shooting stances besides standing offhand, squatting, and shooting over chest-high barriacde.

What's kind of funny is that rifles specifically developed for more rifle focused competition such as 2gun/Brutality like the WWSD which is "reliable and lightweight" for competition was found to have serious flaws discovered by larpers when they use it in extremely cold environments. Like An Appeal to Heaven.

Ugh... it reminds me of the whole Paul Harrell (RIP) and Caleb Giddings interaction. Where Giddings is a competent competition shooter yet is not immune from making stupid arguments or having a meltdown if things don't go his way or if something different happens.

This is an issue I have with a lot of guys whose experience with various firearms and accessories is in controlled flat range environments. They know how stuff holds up in that use case, but there are a lot of larpers out in the woods and mountains who use the shit out of their stuff and discover flaws in things that likely won't be revealed in flat range competition use. Competition shooting is great for improving shooting skills, but competition shooting and self defense / combat shooting are different things (even if there's some commonality). Like you said, there's a lot of gear used in competition shooting that isn't practical outside of the flat range, and some competition shooters get tunnel vision when it comes to this.

This is something Pranka didn't understand either. People like Hop and BF use the shit out of their stuff and find out what holds up and what doesn't, and then make videos about it. This helps people determine what guns and accessories might be worth their money. Nobody wants to drop money on a gun, optic, weapon light, etc., only to find out it has serious flaws or just doesn't hold up to actual use. Pranka just sees a bunch of filthy civvies playing pretend with expensive gear and making videos about it despite having no pedigree. Guys like Pranka just used whatever was issued to them by Uncle Sam. Regular Joes have to pay out of pocket for this stuff and don't want to waste money.
