I’m going with her being ashamed by her OWN choice and acting like a defiant child about it.
I suspect she really is as hard to deal with as has been speculated here. I have no proof of this; just the opinion of ONE person I know who had dealings directly with her back in her ‘hey day’ right after her 1 real cover.
This person said she talked and acted as though she was a super star, pulling the diva act but wrong type of diva.
If that’s the reputation you have developed, it sticks with you. Combine that with no real skills and good luck getting any kind of job.
I expect, if she gets pushback on her choice to go OF, that she’ll start with the ‘sex work is real work’ schtick.
Whatever… cleaning out septic tanks is real work as well but you don’t hear about it from workers in the field.
Sex work had always had distasteful connotations and no well written essay or article can change that. It’s generally seen as the last way to make money by desperate people. Ever hear a 12 year old announce: “I want to be a sex worker when I grow up!” and have a parent enthusiastically endorse that choice?
Not gonna happen.
But Tess will try and sell it as respectable and God help the kids.
