That ruins the atmosphere of the game imo. Its just another demake trope of trying to outdo the original while failing. I prefer feeling uncertain in the beginning, and a reveal that the world is not as it seems, far more dire and then YOU'RE THE REASON WHY ITS ALL FUCKED. It was a little Lynchian and surreal. Its not exactly a creepy game, its more of a very moody game. Earthbound's odd moments scaled up with inspiration from Silent Hill. As always in gaming we seem to have gotten a Monkey Paw situation.
"We want OFF on steam and consoles!" For almost 20+ years.
And now we "got it" with the catch that it will not be the same experience for newcomers and it is the polar opposite of what we actually wanted for newcomers. I wanted a port, a translation. The simple graphics hold up, but a few additions may have been nice. Now its just bloat to justify the price and its fucking fangamer of all companies to work with. This is why I stopped making wishes for games.
Just imagine how much they'll ruin the Brain Plague tracks...
Sorry Toby and Mortis but there's no way in Hell you'll ever be able to pull off this kind of mixing.
Hard as Hell to top perfection, we are going to get sidegrades at best. Tender Sugar was a missable optional boss track btw. Reminiscent of Silent Hill 1.
I have zero faith in modern music mixing for these to be properly recreated. Only pale imitations, I know its cynical but OFF was so unique among the earthbound ripoffs with its presentation that even a small change can pretty much cause an entirely different tone of the game. The OST is a part of the game's soul, one of the main reasons people even remember the game. The soundtrack has kept this game alive in our memories, without it OFF would be a far lesser experience.
