Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Cats are the opposite of useless. My dad's cat literally saved his life because she wouldn't stop headbutting his chest and meowing in a distressing tone one day. Dad was having a fucking heart attack and didn't realize it, but his cat knew something wasn't right and did her best to tell him he wasn't okay. He had to have a stent put in, and rehab is in his future, but he's alive because of that cat.

My mom's Russian Blue screamed his little head off over the fact that she had unknowingly contracted sepsis despite being on antibiotics a good 10 years ago. He broke into my parents house years prior to that incident during a thunderstorm and made himself at home. He was a good cat.

To bring it back on topic, even cats are better pets than shitbulls.

My two beloved dogs were tied up and drowned in a canal because they look like XL Bullies - and the perpetrator is still out there​

A dog owner has said she is 'numb' and 'living in a nightmare' after her two dogs were stolen, tied up in a builder's bag and left to drown in a canal.
Sisters Nala and Nova, both three-year-old mastiff-type dogs, were let out into the garden for a nighttime toilet break on January 12.

Minutes afterwards, owner Sarah Hamblett of Heath Town, Wolverhampton, returned to find the back gate wide open and the dogs missing.
They were found five days later by a passerby, drowned in a builder's bag which was tied to a boat mooring in a nearby canal.

Ms Hamblett believes the dogs were targeted 'because of their breed' and the fact that they 'look like big XL bullies'.
Ms Hamblett told MailOnline: 'Nala and Nova were sisters. They took their first breath together and their last breath together.
'It's like living a nightmare at the moment. I'm devastated. I'm just numb.'

The 49-year-old let the dogs out at around 10.30pm, attended to her grandchildren for a few minutes and returned to find the pair were not waiting eagerly to be let back in, as they usually did.

After checking footage from her doorbell camera, to no avail, the mother of six then searched the nearby roads and her local park, enlisting a neighbour's help.

'I literally left the three children sleeping to see if I could find them.

Ms Hamblett believes Nala and Nova were disliked because of their resemblance to XL Bully dogs, which are banned in England and Wales.

However, she says she has a certificate of exemption for the sisters, who she called 'big softies'.

One of the most shining examples of why the average pitbull owners are insane is their need to post pictures of the total destruction their precious Nalas and Diesels cause and call it "cute and quirky." This goes beyond someone posting a funny video of their cat unrolling the toilet paper or dog destroying its toy.

With pretty much any other dog, you can expect to replace several chew toys (over time), a few shoes, a rug, or maybe a couch cushion. You might need to clean up strewn garbage or fill up a hole in the yard the dog dug occasionally. That would be your worse case scenario on average.

Having to replace drywall and expensive household appliances constantly is not "part and parcel" of dog ownership and never has been.

A possibility I'm wondering about is if pitbulls will eventually start to erode the human-dog relationship. If enough children get mauled or hurt by these dogs (and survive) wouldn't they start to fear dogs? Part of the trust humans have with dogs is that these predators are mostly unwilling to hurt humans, but erode that trust and every dog stsrts to look like a threat, especially if pitbull behavior starts being considered 'normal' dog behavior.

I'm pretty sure I've shared this story before, but my dad was in law enforcement. One of his partners had a pair of Shit Bulls that he hand raised since they were puppies. He was VERY experienced at training dogs. He had been raising and training dogs since he was a boy, award winning dogs. He was an experience canine handler in both the military and law enforcement. He didn't want to risk the dogs becoming aggressive, so he trained them to run agility courses and only ever used positive reinforcement training. He never raised his voice and NEVER used physical punishment on them.

These dogs had never once shown any aggressiveness. They had been around other dogs in various situations, including in obstacle course competitions. They had been around children. No issues ever. I had been around them many times when we were over for dinners or parties. One day dad's partner gets home to see his two beloved dogs greeting him at the front door absolutely covered in blood. He follows the blood until he finds his wife and daughter ripped to shreds on the floor. The bastard dogs had snapped and mauled them to death. He took the dogs into the back yard, pulled his sidearm, shot the dogs both dead, then went in with his wife and little girl and blew his brains out.

That's how I know that "It's not the breed, it's the owner/how they're raised" argumemt is pure bullshit with Shit Bulls and related bully breeds. Those dogs weren't raised to be fighting dogs, they were never hit or yelled at. They were highly trained in obedience and agility and he worked with them every single day to make sure they were on top of their game. Just one day their murder switch got flipped and they tore a woman and a little girl, their fucking FAMILY, to shreds.

I'm hoping that society gets to the point where having one of those dogs is seen as something no decent person wants to have, instead of something to try and 'rescue' by delusional pit moms and or a get rich quick scheme.

And the latter I noticed tends to (unfortunately) be one of the major continuous problems because of the buyers of a back yard bred pit puppy by the time the pit grows up and shows it's genetics, the buyer just thinks they got a 'bad one' or it was abused in some way, and the breeder has already collected the money and is long gone. Then they think that the bext one will be 'better' when in reality it's the whole breed that created and bred to be violent.

What I notice a lot of is people wanting to live in a fantasy world with this breed. They want to pretend that this breed was never bred for violence, that this dog had it's social cohesion and restraint and family loyalty bred out to make them killers that get excited over fighting and killing their own siblings, and their own mothers, fathers and puppies, all to win some dogfighter some cash on momentary pleasures. They don't want to believe that 'defending' and keeping these dogs in their houses may mean they may mentally engage in some kind of mental dissonance and gymnastics on a near-daily basis over emerging breed aggression and high gameness, where they will start to feel the need to excuse away or blame or downplay the victims and actions of these dogs, like bite victims, dead or maimed pets, and more, out of 'love' or 'loyalty' to the dog, because it clings to them or is 'protective' of them. Too many of them will thus love and gush over it and still want to call it a 'good dog' and defend it even after it killed their cat or other dogs, or 'nipped' (bit) their child. They have invested in the Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook pit cultures, where there is no bad pits, only bad people, and likes and updoots over ignoring, avoiding and downplaying or victim blaming anything 'negative' about the breed in the real world.

I’ve even heard of rescue groups (breed-specific or otherwise) basically claiming you never truly own the dog and they have the right to come to your house at any time in the future post-adoption to make sure the dog is OK.
