I think the truth that a lot of people aren't willing to admit is we're already in a Video Game crash like 1983. The 83 crash happened because the market was flooded with poorly made games for a quick buck (E.T., Pac-Man 2600, etc.), and that's exactly what's happening now. The only thing that'll topple the actual economics of the industry unfortunately is the fall of a major player like Call of Duty or Fortnite. But unless a major fuckup happens I see them as too big to fail. Game companies can shit in people's mouths like Activision does on a yearly basis and people will still buy it year on year, even though the games haven't been remotely good in over a decade. Luckily, the other fuckups in the industry will do most of the damage to these companies (Redfall for example being a big hit to Microsoft, as well as the slow death of the Xbox). What I can't fathom is how in a cost of living crisis, people are really going out and buying a console that's worth about 2 weeks wages, with no disc drive and no games. It's baffling how unaffordable these consoles are and yet they keep selling. tl;dr fuck the AAA industry, play old games or indieshit

It's worse than 83. Now gaming is such a big chunk of profit in the entertainment industry that every vulture and their mother are looking to sink their teeth into the profit pie. That's why AAA budgets keep bloating up like corpses and it'll only get harder for people that genuinely just want to make a decent game get their foot in the door. And if they somehow manage to do it, Tencent or some other shitty gigacorp will try to buy them.

I haven't seen anyone post this here. EA officially stated in their press release that the game performed below 50% of approximated expectations. They hoped it would sell 3 million copies, but it 'engaged approximately 1.5 million players'. Bioware is most likely getting axed.

they didnt even sell 1.5 million, they say they "engaged 1.5 million players", thats corpo speak, they probably included demo players, refunds and game pass subcriptions in that number.
And even if it actually sold 3 million it would probably still lose money, bioware is a AAA studio with like 8 years of dev time on veilguard. the fact the estimate by EA was 3 million means they probably always knew this garbage would bomb and didnt expect to recoup their money.
If bioware doesnt shut down after this catastrophe of a shitshow i dont know what will. its literally their third flop in a row. And each one is worse than the last, i dont know how it can get worse, but im sure mass effect 5 will be somehow even more garbage

Being “woke” is, in a technicality, bad writing involving left-wing politics, specifically modern politics.

A character straight-up saying “I’m nonbinary” or “I’m trans” is uninteresting and often is the highlight of the character. Nothing interesting is done with it.

At least with Dorian, there’s a lot more fleshing out of his character than “I’m gay” or “My Dad hates me because I’m gay”. No one complains about a film like Philadelphia being woke for the same reason.

Even Krem has better writing than this. BioWare didn’t have to resolve to saying “I’m trans” or whatever the fuck with this character.

There’s just so little subtlety in games like these. The whole pregnant woman fighting clickers in The Last of Us Part II was not only dumb but lacked subtlety.

A lot of studios that still operate, would have been axed ages ago. That or the people making that argument would have been fired and replaced. Bioware would have been liquidated half a decade ago for instance, but they're still kicking.

There has to be more to it. Possible reasons I'm thinking
