New Vegas is a well-written and realized setting,

I’ve been hearing that for a decade+ yet no one ever says why.
All I hear is “Muh good writing. Muh well written game” but never anything deeper than that.

KOTOR2 serves as a decent deconstruction of the Star Wars setting and metaphysics.

No memorable characters that aren’t annoying and doesn’t feel like Star Wars. People don’t play Star Wars games/watch Star Wars movies to have it not feel like Star Wars.
People want Star Wars in their Star Wars.

Keep in mind that 'good for video games' is the metric I'm working with here

I’ve played a ton of games that have more impactful writing and storytelling than New Vegas and KOTOR 2. Fucking Final Fantasy 6 is better written and that’s a SNES game from a series I don’t even like.

Factions and characters are fully fleshed out with cohesive back stories and narratives that make them a slot into the world in a believable and consistent manner, and the way they intermingle, conflict with one another, and can be actively influenced is something almost no other RPG has managed to do with the same level of tact or skill. Caesar's Legion has the short end of the stick but still have a compelling argument and a charismatic figurehead who clearly illustrates his ideas and plans for the world as a whole moving forward.

That's entirely subjective. Kreia is very memorable, people find her philosophies and motives very compelling.

I'm not going to spend paragraphs upon paragraphs analyzing the characters and writing of these games for you when you can very easily go out and find hours of videos and written essays that already do this. It's not like it will change your mind anyway.

This is game journalism basics. You take a game that the target audience has played, mention it a bunch of times in the reviews, as part of the marketing strategy. "This game is the Dark Souls of GTA style games". Now you can have that quote sent back to the publishers of the game who will use that quote in their own marketing. So you might see an Avowed trailer in a day or week that says "Best RPG since Outer Worlds" - Goyslop Reviews. Or just some generic quote that could apply to anything like "You WILL want to play this game!" - Dogshit Media.

These game media outlets know that they want their reviews filled with quotes that the publishers can use. Even in games that receive low or mid level scores or negative reviews will almost always get some positive quotes thrown in to keep a good relationship with the publishers or developers. And now with Microsoft and SONY trying to own everything they are even more limited in how many games or studios they can criticize (not that these pathetic journalists would ever do it anyways).

He deleted the vod tho; I think he got skeeved that people were rightfully dismissing the game as woke trash instead of agreeing with his gripes about performance. The game was running like absolute ass so I get it but he really only played like ten minutes worth of content after finishing the tutorial.

The point they've made is that if all people are gonna sperg about is the niggers and girlbosses(the exact example he gave was ugly NPCs as well) then nobody will complain about the actual gameplay aspects that are shit, which is a fair point. Look at KCD2, everybody is arguing if the game is woke or not and nobody is talking about the shit gameplay that is objectively inferior to the first game. This game doesn't even look like it's worth Pirating. At least with KCD2 there was a factor of "Well how bad did it really get" and it was still a ok gameplay loop, even if the combat was worse than the original. But this? This just makes me want to avoid it with the needless freakshit, and if anything makes me regret even buying Pillars of Eternity since there in the same setting.

I was looking forward to this game despite the odd decision to go for a different art style than the original previews. But after watching 3 different reviews on youtube...it's just not worth my time. I could've probably ignore the freak shit and cringe dialogue if the main gameplay loop was decent. But it doesn't look like it was even finished. The combat alone looks floaty and as if you are doing no damage to the enemy until their HP hits zero and then it flops over. Jfc video games suck ass these days.
