It's naive to absolve either side of responsibility, given the clusterfuck that is American partisanship and bureaucracy (yes, corporate bureaucracy too). There's no excuse for any agency, corporation, or administration to have a space mission intended to be a week turn into nearly a year. It's systemic failure from the ground-up. If Elon dragged his feet too, cunt move on his part. If he's using it for cheap political shots, I'm not surprised, that fits his character of being manipulative and hypocriticalDo you really think they can just in time a space launch like that and biden wanted to leave them there? Ridiculous.
Yes, with modern rockets you can in fact time a space launch with that goal on extremely short notice in near Earth orbit, if you want to. The ISS receives supplies and sends back refuse via Soyuz and Falcon rockets every few months. And that's saying nothing about SpaceX's own rockets. If anyone was really motivated, they likely could have modified one of those missions to evacuate the astronauts. Evidently, no one thought it was pressing enough to make that effort. That is a failure, no one in those positions has the guts to admit they are part of a system with systemic flaws though
