Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Why do I subject myself to Call of Duty in spite of its many internal and external problems? Because I do not have any other options for fast paced, military shooters in various locales that offer the same diversification that Call of Duty provides.
XDefiant was a genuine choice for people tired of COD. Problem is, Ubisoft got tired of the money they were making off of it and decided to perform hara-kiri via Assassins Creed Shadows instead and probably go bankrupt this time next year.

Speaking of money, it's rumored that Warzone 3 will be scrapped from next year's CoD if this Verdansk re-release for this Warzone doesn't retain enough players. Oh, and the next CoD is reported to be a PS4/XB1 release as well.

Just drop the PS4/Xbox One, Activision. Oh okay, 2026 may be the year where PS4/Xbox One won't get a new CoD, among other "leaks."

And the people that were sick of CoD FROM CoD exploited XDefiant's movement like they did for CoD. Of course, XDefiant had other problems retaining players. But, that's neither here or there at this point.

This is a massively good thing in my eyes, as someone who hates Warzone I’d rather them put the dev time into multiplayer and zombies, here’s hoping the third worlders don’t give a fuck and They also drop CoD HQ

The only good thing about BO6 is that multiplayer menu theme, unless what was leaked was changed in the final game. Then I don't think there is anything good about this game.

I hope there isn't a MW4. The original trilogy ended on a high note for that saga. Well, now they'd HAVE to based on that bullshit ending from MWIII. Tying up loose ends as Shepard would say. Old news, but I heard that IW did not even want to make a direct sequel for Call of Duty 4. Activision mandated that they do.

If you want to read some development tidbits about Call of Duty 4, here you go.

MW2019 is MW4. There is no way in hell I am pretending the shitty 2022 and 2023 games will ever be the true MW2 and 3 respectively and neither will any other actual fan of COD. Don't like it when I call your game MW4, MW5 or MW6? Make a new fucking game, then. At least Black Ops doesn't pretend what it is and tries to reboot itself so we have Black Ops 2 part 2 or some stupid shit like that.

Speaking of Black Ops:
bo6 here are your operators bro.jpg
lol, lmao even
Imagine being a grown ass adult and playing stupid shit like this. At least in Mortal Kombat I get to decapitate Rambo or whomever they put in the game, kind of like a bloodier MUGEN with a crazy roster like this. How are you going to excuse Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a "serious" wargame?

Lol, it looks exactly like a fighting game roster.

No. I can accept the terminology of MW2019 for the 2019 reboot. I can accept and agree with the foolish decision to rename a new trilogy from an older one which creates confusion. MW2019 and its sequels are entries in its own rebooted subseries, not existing entries from the original subseries.

If saying it like that helps you distinguish between the two, cool. But it's incorrect.

Good for you, I bet you also use the "preferred" tranny pronouns people want you to and don't have any problems with the "TypeA/B" nonsense. I will always call these games what they are because that's what they are, simple as. MW2019 is MW4 ect. and nothing will change this.

To be honest, I call them MW2019, MW22, and MW23 because it's the years they came out in, and because I refuse to associate them with the original, better games. Seriously, the OG MW Trilogy actually had a solid plot and gameplay; the reboots have neither in comparison, particularly MW23 - they feel more like... propaganda, if even that.

Also, here's a random BO6 clip with funny music from several months ago:

On top of that, I am technically correct in them being sequels since the new "rebooted" universe is canonically not all that new, just one of the many infinite multiverses that the zombies mode(now canonically connected with single player so we can sell skins in multiplayer). Characters from the original COD universe(ie where the first three games took place in) was destroyed but then you still see characters from those original timelines survive and travel to this new timeline(as seen in Cold War's "Dark Aether" story) while also confirming the old timeline is still technically there, just with nobody alive remaining(the titular "Dark Aether"). This isn't a reboot, it's one straight line and everyone from the games you loved is dead. Kind of like how the nu-Marvel Universe technically isn't rebooted either, most of the Marvel Universe died in Secret Wars 2(2015) but at the end of it, the few survivors from the Marvel universe somehow ended up creating a new universe(current woke one) using the powers of their imagination or some shit. Original Doom and other characters are still out there somewhere, you just don't hear about them.

Confused yet? Don't worry about it, just send Activision those 25 dollarydoos so you can play as Micheal Angelo. After all, it's clear nobody actually cares about COD canon anymore, it will be turned into whatever Activision needs to make money, I'm just making my point.

I think Kingdom Hearts has easier lore to understand... and that's sad.

AFAIK, all the Black Ops titles canonically exist in the same universe. But, MW2019 and Cold War started combining their characters and lores together in the continuity. And don't even get started on Warzone and DMZ post launch content that can get retconned because Activision. So, basically the Treyarch games after World at War are in the same universe as the nu-MW games AND Vanguard counts as canon as well?

Man, I'm so confused at this point.

MW2019 is not MW4 because reboots don't get sequel numbering. Nobody refers to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Tomb Raider 2013, and other reboots as sequels. You can insist people should, but they're not going to.

I am technically correct in them being sequels

No, you're not. Captain Price was younger in MW2019 than he was in COD4. Warzone and Zombies aren't canon for the main series. They're full of goofy bullshit that's just there to be amusing. Godzilla and King Kong aren't "real" as far as the mainline story is concerned.

Wrong on all accounts, everything is canon because Activision said it was. This is a decades old argument now and the "zombies are canon" people won.

AFAIK, everything with Zombies after Black Ops connects within its own universe. I think there are different crews with their own storylines, but it makes sense (for me) that the easter eggs in the various maps reveal an overarching timeline out of order because of time travel.

MW2019 was glowie fictions about Syria in video game form plus a little woke bullshit. It was still all right, and you could see how IW might have been tossing around a new trilogy that might be halfway decent. MW2022 felt like Rian Johnson jumped in to subvert your expectations and shit on everything. It was the dumbest campaign I'd ever played (I did not play Vanguard, and yes, I liked AW better) and felt like it could not possibly have anything to do with 2019.

Did they ever do anything with the post credits ending of MW2019 where they briefly showed Al-Asad?

So, been playing more of Ghost's multiplayer; wanted to post some thoughts.

For starters, I'm still finding out about some new secrets and details on a number of old maps; for instance, Stormfront has a number of backrooms and little nooks where you can hide, generally pretty detailed. DLC maps don't tend to pop up all that often - it's either base game or occasionally Onslaught maps - but there's still enough people on TDM at least to get some games. Frankly, the only map that doesn't really play well is Siege; aside from being really big, it doesn't flow as well as other maps, with navigation feeling random and frustrating. It looks like a fairly decent area to explore, at least.

I have run into some hackers on the game, nowadays; their defining characteristics are A: they tend to have grey boxes instead of emblems, and B: they're genuinely pretty bad at the game. There's no godmodders as of yet, and frankly I can't tell if the hackers are even doing anything major; loadouts look average, and they definitely aren't running walls or radar cheats, given the amount of times I've snuck up and shanked a few. They really don't tend to play all that well either, often running directly into the open and getting lit up; they might genuinely just be noobs using cheats to unlock stuff - given that some really cool stuff is locked behind Prestige - but I don't know. Granted, this is PS4/5; might be different on other systems.

On a more positive note, I want to give a shout-out to this one guy who kicked my ass on a Prison Break match; one of the lesser-seen Sniper mains on Ghosts, and this guy was genuinely REALLY good. He was firing through unexpected angles, like through truck windows and hitting shots through walls from seeing body parts like hands or feet sticking out, and it was surprisingly fun getting into gunfights with him. Wasn't like he was invincible, he got killed plenty of times, but he still managed to be a really effective marksman in a game dominated by ARs and LMGs, and it was a fun change of pace. Bit of an odd thing to be positive about, but I'd still take this guy over the average CoD kiddie any day.
