Makes me wonder if he's ever played any "angel or asshole" games and took notes on how they did it.

For example, Fallout, even at its worst, gives you a mostly blank slate, but how they come across is determined by you, so in the end they are either the worst thing to happen to the wasteland or its messiah, and can even be anything in between.

This is done by (Fallout 3's worst writing aside) by giving the player the choice to do good or evil according to their own decisions, and even though you are forced to do an unambiguously good act in Fallout 3 by defeating the Enclave and restoring the water purifier for the Capital Wasteland in the original game minus Broken Steel, but you can still fuck it all up at the end and make it a gigantic poison dispenser, and that's not even including all the horrible things you can do previously like cooking off a nuclear bomb in an innocent town and selling a child into slavery.

And even then, these are choices defined by a player whose morality is generally left blank to some extent so the player can fill in the holes.

The way Yandere-chan is being written, however, is destroying this possibility. Yes, it's out of our hands to NOT make her a jealousy driven killer, but it SHOULD be in our hands to determine just how bad she really is, whether she only kills out of necessity or wants to drown the world in blood, that determination should be left to us, and by robbing the player of any way to decide just how much of a sociopath she ultimately is, she's become a flat character who we have no reason to care about.

tfw Fallout 3 has comparably good writing

"Well, it was a long time ago, i've no idea what they're supposed to do anymore, I might scrap the whole thing, lol."

He probably should scrap the stats. And the pantyshots. And the demon realm. And the nurse rival (pedo teacher can stay if he portrays her unsympathetically, though).

I read the synopsis of each character, and they are basically ticking off hentai visual novel tropes, whether Alex admits it or not.

I WOULD keep the nurse character, but make her genuinely care about "Senpai" as a person and worry about his safety (especially since a few dead bodies would have piled up by this point) to the point the player feels a little guilty for hurting someone who is basically ditzy but genuinely good hearted instead making her just the " busty generic school nurse falls for student" trope.

As for the teacher trying to cougar up "Senpai", since she appears the week after the nurse, I would make her a creepy lech on purpose, partially because that's exactly what she is, and also to serve as a contrast to the nurse, so the player doesn't feel as bad for taking her out.

Thing is, the characters are cliche, let's not make any bones about it, but with good writing, they can be written so as to evoke emotional turmoil in the player for some of the targets, and some would be catharsis targets (the player is encouraged to take them out), and I'd vary the level of sympathy of each target, since they currently need some character depth to make the player care the slightest bit about them as characters, because at this point they are just stereotypes you have to kill.

The funny thing is for most rivals it's obvious where he took the "inspiration" from....so, if he just copied that characters personality and only changed up their backstory to fit the game, the result would be much better.

Is there any list on what he based the rivals on?

The only ones I know are that Megami(? Was it her? The SCP [student council president]) is pretty much Kiryuin Satsuki from Kill la Kill in Akademi uniform with white hair. It's even mote obvious in that older concept (which I can't find the link to...) where she still had black hair.

The delinquent...was it Osoro? She's, look-wise, based on that woman from Senran Kagura. I really can't remember the name but in a video he even showed a pic of that character as an example for "If I want a character to look like blah, I look for references of a character that looks like blah".

(As if he had to "look for it". I don't want to know how much time he spent on Senran Kagura games.)

Well, they're anime cliches so it make sense that their design look familiar.

I do remember that the spooky club president has elements of the heroine of watamote and hex maniac from pokemon.

If they weree just cliches it'd be one thing. But they are more bad rip-offs, if you compare them to the origin, aren't they?

I suppose so. They do have heavy resemblence to each other. I'm usually lenient about these kind of things unless it's literally traced or recolored.

Besides, unoriginal character design is the least offensive thing in this game.

It's crazy how many alternatives there are to the panty mechanic that Eva just refuses to even hear. Just off the top of my head i thought replace the panty shots with having to steal a personal item from the characters. Each would provide a big enough currency buff that it wouldn't be necessary to steal from all of them but you can pick which npc interests you, follow them around and learn what item they're attached to and why (Like that totally not a succubus's ring) then wait for a chance to nab it, deliver it to info Chan so she can ransom it back. Not perverted, optional how much you want to do it rather than having to take a panty shot of every single girl and could give players a chance to bond with certain npcs like they did with Kokona, giving evas game more depth and creating a fandom which is something he would really want.
That took all of thirty seconds to think up and there are dozens of better, easier options available. C'mon man.
Edited to add jeez you can even have varying difficulty with this method for varying rewards, like stealing a girls favourite hair bobble which she leaves lying around all the time yields a super low reward whereas stealing a piece of jewelry belonging to a students deceased parent that they very, very rarely seperate with and notice immediately when its gone can yield a larger reward, im on a roll here.

Another 5 second idea that can extend this already superior form of the panty shot system; let the player choose how much to ransom the item for to give it a bit of extra risk if you're feeling greedy or are desperate for an unlock. It'd give the player the flexibility to take risks for a higher reward at a higher cost (failing might make the student barter it down to a low price that you either take or leave). Similarly, it gives you incentive to figure out how much something is worth to someone. Swiping a necklace by fluke without knowing it's value to the student may make you lowball the ransom, whereas taking the time to figure out how attached a student is to it lets you gauge a better price. To help balance that out so there's less initial guesswork on what attachment correlates to what ransom you could have infochan give a rough chart of "if a student has this tier of care for the item, try ransoming for this amount".

Or use reputation as a currency. Help students with their tasks, you gain reputation which you can use for favors. It will tie in with the "pretending to be a normal student" thing. At least you don't have to pull out your phone and camp the stairs like you're playing a shitty fps.

Osana, Amai, Oka and Kizana dont summon anyone to me, just generic designs for the trope.

Osoro is Daidouji from Senran Kagura (you know if you look hard enough, you actually see Banchou Leomon)
Nurse is Compa + Sonico pretty much
Teacher is a char from Prison School
Athletic girl is Kanbaru Suruga
The little Sister is Nico from Love Live (if you consider love live into the business, you could imagine Amai is based on You from LL Sunshine)
Megami is Satsuki, as said before

incidentally, Midori might be Yae ( i think thats her name, the green haired kunoichi) from Ganbare Goemon.
