Boomers at least gave us good shit. Gen-X created nothing but horseshit.
Has Gen X really had a chance to create a lot? The Baby Boomers still run Hollywood and won't let anyone do much that isn't an already established brand/franchise which is exactly why remakes and homages are a thing: low risk. The Millennials grew up with iPhones and being able to cut movies on their home computers and Youtube while the Gen Xers were already in the trap of "go to film school and get a job" despite there being no job openings because the Baby Boomers simply refuse to retire and/or die off, at least until recently. Entire genres of things Gen Xers grew up with are dead and gone, like game shows and action movies where the guy gets the babe at the end and there are pithy pre- and post-kill quips galore in favor of cheap "reality" shows and Girl Power.

In general, Gen Xers are practically invisible in our society.

When the boomers finally die off, I wonder how how they will manage and affect the media that we watch.

They won't. Millennial Leftists are the middle management pushing DEI media. Xers also aren't Redpilled enough to push back on DEI.

You don't see Phasma or get anything out of her because the execs had the idea of adding her when the first film was 90% done or something. The execs went "you know, we could sell a unique toy for a storm trooper that's silver... can you put a unique one in the movie JarJar?", which Abrams agreed to. Kennedy of course wanted her to be a woman, and hey Game of Thrones lady's career is sort of light, so let's get her in on it.

Ruin then did nothing with her because he didn't want to be bothered fixing anything Abrams wrote and she had nothing to her besides what the actor brought, like how old dark Jedi was only given character due to Ray Stevenson giving a shit with the material, and the same reason Squid Game got the Jedi master from Acolyte any depth. You don't really have any potential when you weren't given shit to work with. They are nothing but the actor doing their best with what they have.

She only exists for the same reason Poe comes out of nowhere in the script after the opener; because of bullshit on the fly changes that somehow were rewarded. Oscar Isaacs got pissy about getting killed early again since he had no desire to be the next generation's Sean Bean.

They threw out the plan, and said "fuck it let's wing it" while handling an 11 billion dollar IP. It's kind of amazing how retarded they are while also being malevolent.
I have a long-standing theory that all of the Disney Star Wars movies save The Last Jedi were edited to hell. Rogue One was edited and reshot also, but at least it makes sense.

I also strongly suspect that Finn was going to be the star of TFA and SW was using "racist fans" to cover for pandering to the Chinese.

iirc there's no question at all about Rogue One and Solo being significantly different movies that got majorly reworked, they even admitted it with those

While everyone is focused on the boomers, what really fucked Gen X from the beginning was the Forgotten, Greatest and Silent generations not retiring and living long past their supposed expiration dates. As they mostly held the reins until they started dropping dead and then the boomers finally took control en masse.

Almost thirty years old and still haven't got old thanks to that recon.

Also known as the Queen Elizabeth II syndrome. Just look at poor King Charles III. Dude became king when he's already set to expire pretty soon. Just like George IV.

Everyone talks about how George Lucas would have been a better fit to make the sequel trilogy but I highly doubt it wouldn't have been without its faults, he was planning to literally make Leia the chosen one instead of Luke or Anakin.

Though regardless, I still would have rather seen his trilogy than the one that Disney gave us.
The majority of people don't understand that The Force Awakens is a very faithful version of George's plans for the sequel trilogy. If George had made Force Awakens I would feel the same way about it, I'm completely against a jedi purge happening in Luke's lifetime and a fake and gay Empire rising back into power, and making the movie a fake and gay remake of A New Hope. Unfortunately all of this was George's plan for the sequels since at least the 80s.

They talked about it being the smoothest production. I understand TFA's issue was that it shut down when Harrison broke his leg and they were able to step back and look at what they had filmed. See what was working and what wasn't. Did rewrites. How much changed, no idea but I do think ideas like Starkiller being added and the final act significantly changed are possible. While I don't know specifics because it was a conversation before TFA came out, the guy I knew working a ILM was saying he was surprised how much everything was constantly changed in the film.

It's been well documented but JJ's approach was to get everyone's input on what was being done. Where as RJ's was to deliberately shut out anyone else's input. He was Howard Roark, determined to do his film everyone else be damned. Than Ayn Rand shit explains why it displeased so many and also why people defend it.

TLJ was meant to film the month after TFA came out. It got delayed a further month for rewrites. The how and why unknown. The further we get from the film, the worse our memories get but my understanding is that it was most likely a rewrite that added Rose Tico and Admiral Holdo. Both actors were announced at the start of filming.

Originally it was Finn and Poe that went to Canto. RJ had commented he couldn't write the characters to be distinct. The dialogue for each could be interchanged. The characters of Rose and Holdo also featured heavily in reshoots. RJ stating that he hadn't figured out the characters yet because they were so new when they first shot them. So we have to assume most of their scenes were changed a couple of times.

The interesting thing to me is trying to reverse engineer all the changes this made to the film and while not knowing how Poe and Finn going to Canto would have been. It seems almost every change I can directly relate to this is bad. For starters, Poe is an experienced person. So you wouldn't have two retards at Canto. Is shit like Finn and Tico meeting DJ absolutely retarded because it's just fitting changes in that don't work.

Was Mary Poppin's Leia a result? The dumbness of the space chase?

It can even go a step further to the notion that the film was meant to open with a battle on Crait and that was repurposed for the final act. Added the awful opening sequence for Rose's sister to die. It also explains why the whole Crait battle is absolutely retarded. One has to wonder if how many of the dumb things in the films actually stem from a production and story that was just spiralling out of control. There were reports about how RJ would rewrite scenes with no thought to the larger script.

Actually, his plan was for them to fight a criminal empire instead of another Galactic Empire wannabe. It's why he revived Maul in TCW; that was not just some empty act of fanservice-Lucas wanted Maul to be the big bad that the next generation would fight. Not as powerful as Sidious or Vader, but cunning enough to be a threat, especially since he is a relic from a bygone age when Jedi ruled the galaxy.

I think I remember having this conversation with you here before lol But yeah I think you're right, so maybe George's version would've actually been a little bit better after all. George also had plans for an exiled Luke on a remote planet train a scavenger girl in the force as well as Han and Leia's son named Ben turning to the dark side. There was a lot of George's ideas in TFA that JJ takes the fall for (fair enough though, the dude did direct the movie)

Something you see all the time throughout history and biology is the phenomenon of "Regression to The Mean" or "Regression to Averages" where an extremely successful generation will effectively smother the next couple or few generations after them. The children of great people often become victims of their parent's success.

They should have just gone with the New Republic -> Galactic Alliance EU timeline.
They should've done that with Maul's criminal empire as the main threat for the films. Hell, they could even have some scenes where the Empire works as a member of the Alliance, and Luke orders some Stormtroopers around like his old man did. Maybe even have a cyberized (to slow down their aging) remnant of the 501st Legion tagging along with Luke, examining Outer Rim worlds for evidence of Maul's little criminal group wandering around. Add in the idea that Maul is stoking war within the GA (say, blame him for Thrackan Sal-Solo getting uppity enough to launch a rebellion against the GA while giving Darth Caedus and Lumiya some Sith artifacts) and you're good to go.
