"21% of adults are illiterate, this is concerning when compared to other countries with higher literacy rates"

the genuine most tactful and corporate way to say "its absolutely bonkers 1/5 of your voting and driving adults dont know what the funny squiggles we are communicating with currently mean"
The only illiterate adults I know of are the illegal Mexicans who never went to school, my guess is we included our brown people while Europe doesn’t much like how they do shady shit to make their country “happier” or “higher standard of living” than America

🚨 POTUS signs an executive order on election integrity that includes the following provisions:

- Requires documentary, government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship on its voter registration forms.
- Conditions federal election-related funds on states complying with the integrity measures set forth by Federal law.
- Directs the updating of the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0 and security standards for voting equipment -- which includes requiring a voter-verifiable paper ballot record and not using ballots in which the counted vote is contained within a barcode or QR code.
- Directs the Attorney General to enter into information-sharing agreements with state election officials to identify cases of election fraud or other election law violations.
- Takes appropriate action against states that count ballots received after Election Day in Federal elections.
- Revokes Biden Executive Order 14019, which turned Federal agencies into Democratic voter turnout centers.

Some terrifying data, as of right now, AS YOU READ THIS, 1 in 5 ADULTS are considered completely illiterate

over half have a literacy understanding below what a 6th grader should have

34% of these people were born outside the united states
View attachment 7135210

Now the real kick in the shins, 40% of all students cannot read at a basic level, 70% of all low income fourth grade student cannot read at a basic level

Your source didnt cite primary sources for their data, that I could see, but I found some at the NCES site, like this one (numeracy results suck, too, btw).

Didn't hunt the rest but what is claimed to be NCES data can be found on wiki (hey, at least there's an attempt at some citation) and largely aligns with your source data (and includes a little more nuance on levels of literacy). And it took a HUGE dive from 2017 to 2023.
Adult literacy in the United States is assessed through national and international studies conducted by various government agencies and private research organizations. The most recent comprehensive data comes from a 2023 study conducted by the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) as part of the OECD's Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies.[1]

In 2023, 28% of adults scored at or below Level 1, 29% at Level 2, and 44% at Level 3 or above.[1] Adults scoring in the lowest levels of literacy increased 9 percentage points between 2017 and 2023. In 2017, 19% of U.S. adults achieved a Level 1 or below in literacy while 48% achieved the highest levels.[2]

Anything below Level 3 is considered "partially illiterate" (see also § Definitions below).[3] Adults scoring below Level 1 can comprehend simple sentences and short paragraphs with minimal structure but will struggle with multi-step instructions or complex sentences, while those at Level 1 can locate explicitly cued information in short texts, lists, or simple digital pages with minimal distractions but will struggle with multi-page texts and complex prose.[4] In general, both groups struggle reading complex sentences, texts requiring multiple-step processing, and texts with distractions.[4]

But note that the rates are for English literacy, not general literacy, so it stands to reason that ESL people/immigrants are going to have lower English literacy rates.

Also note that "illiterate" in the US is not "unable to read a word" (see below and the wiki entry for levels and definitions). But it does mean struggle enough to function in life. I'd like to see breakouts by age.

Lil fun to to end it on if you like dark humor, none of this is "funny" you just have to either laugh or cry

This^ is from but does not cite the World Population Review.

The full information you didn't include on the gender gap:
There is also a gender gap in literacy: Of the roughly 781 million adults worldwide who cannot read or write, nearly two-thirds are female. This disparity is particularly noticeable in less-developed countries, in which women are often expected to stay at home and care for the house and children while the men go off to work. The developed nations of the world have much higher literacy rates with smaller gaps—if any—between the genders.

Worldwide for reference:

By world definitions the US has a 99% literacy rate.
As a whole, the global literacy rate is high. The literacy rate for all males and females that are at least 15 years old is 86.3%. Males aged 15 and over have a literacy rate of 90%, while females lag only slightly behind at 82.7%
But note that world literacy rates aren't that comparable bc of differing def notions of @literacy:
  • Literacy rates display the % of adults ages 15 and above “who can both read and write with understanding a short simple statement about their everyday life.”
  • Many countries, particularly in North America and Western Europe, utilize a more stringent definition of literacy. Those inculde include the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, France, and Germany.

They are using elementary school reading tests to gauge number of prison beds to purchase in the future
Right, because people who can't or don't read have relatively few choices of ways to get by in life. Poverty, literacy, and crime are tight.
Does art imitate life or life imitate art?

btw this info is coming from the National Literacy Institute, not a right wing think tank

It's not an "institute"; it's a company.

In any case, it's a travesty and only going to get worse bc expectations are crap, and so are what people think qualifies as reading (meaning for pleasure)(if), and what is considered acceptable writing.

They spell 'color' with a U. They're not literate.

The district court judge who recently blocked President Donald Trump's efforts to deport illegal alien gang members attended a suspiciously partisan legal conference just months before his ruling, according to a judicial ethics report.

Judge James Boasberg, who serves on the D.C. District Court, participated in what appears to be nothing more than a Democrat strategy session masquerading as a legal conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The conference’s agenda items, “Judges in a Democracy” and “State of Democracy,” sound eerily similar to the Democrats’ tiresome 2024 campaign rhetoric about “saving democracy” — which, of course, has become the justification for their using the courts to obstruct Trump’s agenda.

“Called a ‘Privately Funded Seminar Disclosure Report," the document discloses that Boasberg was in attendance but offers no details of whether Boasberg was paid for his attendance or travel, or what the remuneration was,’ reports Just the News.

The outlet was “alerted to the conference and to Boasberg's attendance by a retired Democrat-appointed judge, who was concerned the July 2024 conference's focus on judges' role in a democracy was too close to a political party's theme for comfort.”

Overseen by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, the ethical rules governing federal judges require that a private entity who "issues an invitation to a federal judge to attend an educational program as a speaker, panelist, or attendee and offers to pay for or reimburse that judge, in excess of $480, must disclose financial and programmatic information." The rules do not require a specific accounting for each judge, or even how much was paid to judges at all.
[…]
It is possible that his "payment" was merely reimbursement for expenses, but Boasberg did not respond to a request for comment from Just the News.

The entire arrangement reeks of the same swamp politics that President Trump has been fighting since day one.

Is it any surprise that after rubbing elbows with fellow liberals at this partisan powwow, Judge Boasberg decided to obstruct Trump's efforts to remove dangerous gang members from our streets? This is exactly why Americans have lost faith in our judicial system — unelected judges attending partisan conferences, then making decisions based on partisan biases, not constitutionality.

The conference was part of the Rodel Institute’s Judicial Fellowship, and each attending judge, including Boasberg, was a first-year fellow, according to the institute’s website. Notably, Rodel receives funding from the same foundations that frequently bankroll anti-Trump organizations, programs, and publications. Additionally, the institute’s faculty advisors — twenty in total — are overwhelmingly outspoken Trump critics or those who have opposed his policies.

The Rodel Institute’s Board of Directors is stacked with Trump critics, including Ian Solomon. Co-founders Bill and Don Budinger have deep ties to Democratic organizations and candidates, with Don opposing Arizona’s immigration enforcement efforts and backing Democratic Senate candidates. Former Montana Gov. Steve Bullock was under consideration for Kamala Harris’s Cabinet, while former Arizona legislator Heather Carter abandoned the GOP and endorsed Democrats like Katie Hobbs. Jamie Woodson co-chaired a report lamenting “political disinformation” in 2016, and former Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna has openly attacked Trump, calling him a “demagogue” and dismissing his legal arguments as “flimsy.”

Maybe next time, Judge Boasberg can hold his strategy sessions somewhere less obvious than a millionaire's playground. But then again, the left has never been particularly good at hiding its contempt for Trump or the rule of law.

Sorry for the double post, but breaking news

President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order that directed the Justice Department to declassify files concerning Crossfire Hurricane, which was an FBI investigation into allegations that Trump campaign members colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.

The order comes after House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan asked the FBI to comply with his committee’s requests for the truth about the FBI’s investigation into and promotion of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax.

The president ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to declassify the files proposed in an earlier memorandum, but to keep other data redacted.

"My decision to declassify the materials described above does not extend to materials that must be protected from disclosure pursuant to orders of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and does not require the disclosure of certain personally identifiable information or any other materials that must be protected from disclosure under applicable law," Trump wrote in the order.

The declassification order comes after an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller “did not establish” any criminal Trump-Russia collusion.

"You probably won’t bother because you’re not going to like what you see," Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday. "But this was total weaponization, it’s a disgrace. It should have never happened in this country. But now you’ll be able to see for yourselves. All declassified."

As someone who's traveling to Japan in October, is this a big deal or just more TDS as usual?

My brother's a huge lib and he's super paranoid for me when I travel to Osaka later this year and apparently he think I'll get shipped off to CECOT when I arrive back in America, because I 'might' have a .pdf file in my phone (mainly e-books) that have the n-word in them, lmao.

I mean I'm an American citizen so I don't know if this is a big deal or no?
What the Guardian left out of their article, or whatever we call their reporting these days, is that the French guy was actually committing industrial espionage and that's why he got flagged. The French actually do this all the fucking time, it's part of the reason we don't share Five Eyes stuff with them. Say what you will about the Frogs, they actually act like a real country sometimes.

So as long as you're not stealing Japanese Industrial secrets, you're probably safe. If you get a chance, maybe look at JapanEats channel on YouTube, see if he's got any good hole in the wall places top eat out there.

I wake up at 7am and drink three liters of Pepsi Real Sugar. I log into the USPG 2 thread to see that Trump still hasn't executed all migrants with a bolt gun yet. Enraged, I create twenty sock accounts and spam violent sexual threats to Lolcow Salon users so I can cool off. I go to the gym and assault every person I see that does not have blonde hair and blue eyes until the staff call the police again and I have to dive out the window to escape. My skin is punctured with glass, so I have to go to the ER and pay a 50,000 dollar medical bill after insurance to get it removed. I return home and log into USPG 2. TTD has not been achieved. Enraged, I create a Proton Email account and send my work-in-progress fanfiction to the official KF contact form, wherein I marry Null and stuff slices of pizza up his ass.

I hear police sirens outside my house and realize that the pigs have followed me home. "I blame Trombonista!" I screech as I strap on my suicide vest and run outside through my front door to meet the cops. They riddle my body with hollow point rounds, setting off the explosives and turning my house into a fucking crater. I am immediately sent to Hyperborea on my death, wherein I choose to reincaranate as Adolf Hitler 2.0.

I'm proud to be an American.

God this subreddit is such a goldmine for seeing darkies suffer.

If you go to school you will be smart but if you don't go to school you will be wise.

Getting this wrong even once wreak havoc on the very objective of getting illegals and specifically illegal gangbangers out of the country. And nobody should trust the executive branch at your word when its immense power moves at the result of the next election.

And again, I do find it troublesome that principles get taken advantage of by bad actors. But you cannot allow the executive branch to simply say they did the work and call it a day. Trust but verify is extremely applicable here.
I'd bet a bossmanjack sized wager that something taking advantage of this is in the works. They will disguise some poor legal citizen grandmother as a gang member, even presenting some forged matching ID's and then when they get to the detention center they will drag her out and go "LOOK WHAT THEY DID TO ORDINARY CITIZENS!". But the same argument you have is the same one for capital punishment. We need to be putting in express lanes and sure a few fuckups are gonna happen but after a few years the deterrence kicks in and the US prisons are going to be a whole hell of a lot emptier, as are the welfare rolls.

Landmines are awful do not do this.
Can we at least agree to have dollar-fed machine gun turrets for the kiddos at the border? We can work out the ticket and prize system later.
