I'm not going to pay off some kid's college debt because they went to some liberal arts school and borrowed a few million to learn gender science and underwater basket weaving. Yes if you took out giant loans with no plan on how you were going to pay it back then you're on your own.

Stealing everyone's money to pay for other peoples' debt is also just a really dumb idea because it doesn't even acknowledge the issue. Why is school so expensive that it requires a loan? How is it that education, despite being so expensive, is not creating wealth? Even if we could forgive everyone's debt, and everyone was ok with it we still have a broken system that will require us to bail out next year's students over and over again. I want people to take care of themselves and not ask me for hand outs. I can barely afford to take care of myself let alone boomers, gen z students, and single mothers. You're asking me to give up what little I have and aren't offering me anything in return. How about you make education affordable in the first place so I can switch careers? Drop housing prices so I can own a home. If you want something out of me and the rest of americans you need to offer something that's mutually beneficial and also isn't done at gunpoint.

A lot of you underestimate how quickly American companies will be able to get up and running. If there's money to be made, companies will quickly jump in and start producing immediately. Thats how capitalism and competition works.

We're not talking about government run projects. Corporations, private companies and entrepreneurs will move quickly to take advantage.

You’re right. Companies will jump at the opportunity when it is available.

Where’s the opportunity? Where’s the incentive? Where’s the financial support to reduce the risk? Where do we set up the plants? Where are our technical experts to manage the machines? How do we procure the machines as they probably can’t be 100% made in the US? How long will construction take? Don’t forget to factor in cost increases on construction due to tariffs.

Maybe we can complete this in a few years. But if those tariffs drop in that time, factory production stops dead. Especially if the product is being made elsewhere for less cost.

The point is that you can’t only use tariffs to bring back manufacturing. You need other financial incentives. You need Congress to pass laws that encourage domestic manufacturing. And you should have done it before you caused economic uncertainty.
