Are videogames for children?

How's it compare to Mega Man Battle Network?
It has the aesthetic mostly down and plays pretty similarly, but with more of an emphasis on using the various systems to play through progressively hard difficulties. Probably the closest you're gonna get to a roguelite MMBN, though.

Because we haven't moved past "THIS GAME LETS YOU KICK BABIES!" and then it's a 5 min flash game. It generates headlines in a boring climate, which is now, given it's all "fat tits", "korean fuckdoll" or "dustborn v39 just bombed".
What was the Skyrim thing that caused such outrage? The Penis Rape Sword or something?

I gamer raged for the first time since childhood. Been going through the DMC series. On DMC 3 currently, playing the HD collection on the PS3. Turns out my save was still there so I restarted on hard. When I first played this as a child I had the original American PS2 release and somehow beat it over the summer. It's been well over 15 years since I touched it.
I'm on the Agni and Rudra boss. Killed Agni, just about to kill Rudra when he does that jump AOE attack and I get hit mid air and die. Immediately chucked the controller into a nice, flluffy pillow onto the floor and it damn near penetrated the pillow. Shattering the plastic tabs inside of the controller and cracked the side of the left handle. Turns out chucking a controller when your an adult has consequences lol.
While taking it apart I disover that finding genuine, non clone PS3 controllers has somehow become a challenge these days. I have an extra practically untouched one. Thinking of buying a translucent case or if I can find one a PS1 grey case for the broken one and swapping the internals. Though I just glued the tabs back on and put it back together.
Im only mildly ashamed of myself. It was cathartic though. I finished the boss right after that.

They're woke and focus way too much on relentless offensive play and combos, not rewarding defense enough and barely making it viable. At least, that's Street Fighter 6. I heard Tekken is similar.
SF6: Woke as shit, ugly-ass designs and unecessary collabs that focus on cosmetics than actual gameplay additions (SxF, ZZZ)
Tekken 8: Harada went full retard and made everyone OP as shit, going all in on offense and deleting any chance of defensive mechanics. Story also went full retard following Heihachi's unexplained revival (despite being supposedly dead according to Harada, again)
MK1: Woke as shit, focuses too much on guest Kameos than actual old characters from older games. Fucked up the story with multiverse shit.
SNK: Added a fucking soccer player and a Saudi DJ as wasted roster slots.
The less said about Guilty Gear, the better.

Abysmal state of affairs. Add to it SSB6 is nowhere in sight and and lots of franchise are dead (Soulcalibur, Killer Instinct, Bloody Roar, etc) and there's no notable new ones to my knowledge, and it looks pretty bad

Soulcalibur
Soulcalibur (and by extension Dead or Alive) was killed because of balancing issues, the same fate Tekken will get given the current state of the game.

Also, notice how all 3 are from Bandai-Namco?

Also, given the current direction of the Switch 2 and Nintendo as a whole, getting another Smash Bros is as good as 0%.

I thought DoA was Tecmo?

Soulcalibur is dead because the producer had to force 6 through because no one wanted to make it and he's gone now so no one left cares because they have Tekken.
Dead or Alive is gone because 6 is worse than 5 and they went on how they would cut back on sex appeal becomes of FGC values. This is funny in hindsight as selling sexy skins and lusting after characters is now encouraged nowadays by the community.

Also DOA is Koei

Started a replay of Cyberpunk 2077 recently after beating it around two years ago. I always go with a female V because I think it's just a better VA performance and experience, but I'll make a lot of different choices and missions this time. But I am still amazed at how much CDPR cleaned this game up, and I think Edgerunners gave them the kick in the ass to really do that. It's almost bug-free compared to what it was in 2020, and the Phantom Liberty expansion is excellent. Story gets pretty emotional, especially near the end.
Might go with V suicide this time because it's heavy and I think it fits.

If you havent tried a throwing knifes/slow motion implant build yet I would heavily recommend it, very fun build. Also, have you tried the DLC? There is also the secret ending thats pretty challenging if your looking for that.

Throwing knife implant sounds pretty cool; I played stealth/hacky type last time so this time I'm looking for more brute force build.
I played the DLC yeah, it was great. I went with Idris Elba last time so I'll probably do the opposite this time.

I thought this game would be abandoned, but it was actually redeemed. Unfortunately it and No Man's Sky created a trend of releasing unfinished games and patching them afterwards.

Which of the three origins do you guys think would fit the most thematically with the DLC ending they added? I'm planning my 4th and final run for this year and it's the last of the major variants I have yet to do. Yes, I really like the game.

Do fighting games need saving? Seems like they're doing fine.
Depends on if you have any love for them and are saddened by the state they have been reduced to, or view them either as FOTM or a weird curiosity.

In an "objective" sense those big franchises that are still around are doing financially fine like SF6, Tekken 8 or GGST.

But they are also filled with egregious monetization, homogenized characters, underdeveloped system mechanics, issues with balancing in terms of schedule and direction etc. Worst of all is the unbelievable decision to make offense as fucking obnoxious as possible with a lot of Casino Royal and snowballing systems that award the aggressor while taking away more and more options for the defender resulting in a streamlined, noncreative, annoying and just bland type of gameplay loop. All under the assumption that it will help convert more casuals to buy into the ecosystem.

To be fair, a lot of those issue have been existing in some capacity forever, but it's more and more shit that gets pilled on top without making anything actually better. You would think that with the current online infrastructure, we would receive constant balance adjustments, but from my personal experience with SF6 and GGST that is not even remotely the case.

JP in SF6 is a prime example. The game comes out, character is undeniably overtuned. Instead of tweaking it consistently, it stays that way for an entire year for Capcom then to kneecap that character and then start reverting those balancing adjustments to end up in the same place where we started.

Anything that could logically be used to make fighting games better is either not utilized at all or twisted so we get a worse game every single time.

I feel completely stuck on video games these days. Aside from my job taking up a ton of time and my personal projects like writing taking up most of the remainer, I've gotten burnt out on a lot of games that I used to enjoy - got a rant on Fortnite here - and there just doesn't seem to be anything that really brings any long-term enjoyment these days. I've been meaning to finish off a Platinum run in Skyrim for a very long time now, but there's just no fun builds I can think of for it. The older CoD games can be fun, but they tend to be either mostly dead, full of hackers/sweats, or the servers are dying. There's a bunch of other games that I'd like to give a shot, but I got no idea where to start on any of them.

is there a gaming news/editorial site worth reading left on the internet? I used to read Rock Paper Shotgun but now that the old guard is gone, it's gotten even more soy than its competition. if I read one more headline about kink in Monster Hunter or how some twee ass indie walking simulator is finally graduating games to Art or how one One Brave Nonprofit is solving the economic class "problem" in gamedev, I'm going to fucking scream.
