I did not watch the opooplok vid and I guess it's just a grind kind of thing. "Oh look i bfged all the shit some nutty put in the map". If doom format had higher limits and allowed placing around int32 count of monsters on the map, and coincident died playing it, would I care? No

It's the same experience I've had with playing Doomworld/ZDF/UDMF slop. The things that make a Doom map fun to play are good enemy placement/usage, good use of geometry and a clear sense of progression in a level. The problem with jumping straight into UDMF/GZDoom is that you overlook those fundamentals and instead focus on gimmicks or novelty, or there are important things you miss like not understanding why certain textures in Doom are used for certain things.

ZDF/Doomworld troons rarely ever evolve beyond gimmicks and novelty in their map design. The thing is that just because the engine CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do that.
 
While UV-max completion of Okuplok is undoubtedly a verry difficult challenge, you trully have to be a special needs person to commit yourself to something like this. That motherfucker wasted thousands of hours replaying these terrible boring fights again and again, just so he be the first to beat this dogshit slaughter map and feel good about himself. And him hyperventilating and screaming at the end was the most autistic thing i've seen in a long time.

He now has this 6-hour-long video of the run that is not even fun to watch, because these fights are boring as fuck and they drag on forever. I tried watching for a bit and quickly began to skip forward, and after around 30 minutes of trying to find anything entertaining about this run, i jumped all the way to the end. Not to mention that is not really a legit run of the map, because if you play the map as intented by the author... the thing is literally unbeatable. So Coincident has to use line skipping in a few places to manipulate and exploit fights that would be otherwise impossible. Of course, normally that would be concidered cheating, but he uses the excuse that he's doing a speedrun, where such exploits are allowed, even though he takes his sweet time and never actually speedruns the map. The conclussion is, Okuplok is a broken unplayable abomination, that should have never been given any respect, or considered for a completion by anyone. But as long as there are weird autistic people in this community, unplayable dogshit maps will keep geeting in the spotlight.

Congrats to Conincident for wasting a few years of his life trying to beat this one map. Now he can finally move on to the next challenge among the dozens of unplayable slaughter maps with 20 000+ monsters in them.

This is so true, and i'm speaking as someone who started in UDMF, being clueless about it, liked it for a while, and even defended it against people telling me that it is a mistake to start in that format. The biggest mistake i made, is that i didn't look hard enough for vanilla mapping tutorials at the time. On youtube there are a lot of "how to get started" UDMF tutorials and i was fooled by one those. Not to mention that the guy recommended registering on ZGroom for further help, and once i did, they tried to brainwash me there. There's some faggot by the nickname of Ramon Dexter there, who tells everyone that UDMF is the best and you're an idiot if you chose anything else. So i followed and a few months later i ended up with 7 of the most retarded, needlessly overdetailed, poorly paced maps you can imagine. Almost everything i preach against current mapping standards, is contained within these maps (though i give myself a little bit of credit for not making anything as retarded as the "first map" examples we often see here). Even now, i still try to "unlearn" some of the bad habbits i picked up during my UDMF time, and will probably never get back to mapping in the formar, as i feel right at home in vanilla now. That being said, i have gained more respect for UDMF projects after playing Kiwi Dreams, and i'm open to playing other UDMF releases, if i find them appealing (definitelly not touching Age of Hell, that's for sure).

Myhouse was never my cup of tea. I don't mind the horror, but i'm very much against the cryptic progression and the running around like a headless chicken, looking for clues and trying to solve something that is unsolvable without online help. It's the equivalent of some brutal 90's graphic adventure/survival game. I might as well play Realms of the Haunting. I would never understand the appeal of games where you can't progress, unless you open the internet and have someone else hold your hand through the adventure. You might solve some of the stuff by yourself, but you'll never going to get everything.

I never really understood why people were chimping out over MyHouse as hard as they were. It's an interesting map from a technical perspective but that's about where it ends for me. I don't think I even finished it but that's how I am with the majority of ZDoom projects, the shit is so boring and unappealing.

I'll tell you: someone made bad spam (the kind you got to get rid of) at like 3am local time for me on the first day I ran the site, and I caught it right when I woke up at like 4, and one of his pics looked a lot like your avatar. Like it was a dude in sunglasses at that angle. It wasn't the same, so I know it wasn't you, and I have the data to know it wasn't you and I'm not accusing you or anything. But for like 2 days I've been having nightmares about your avatar like attacking me.

It's like you put the fear of god into me friend. lol.

He says he's been using UDB for 4 years... or atleast knew how to use it all this time. I'll never understand what's the thinking process of these retards. How do you make something like this, and think it's a good idea to post it for download? Is it another case of jumping straight to the builder before actually playing the game? What does he expect from it? Because i'm pretty sure, he's not going to listen to any criticism or take any advice from it.

At least he's not a complete lunatic, like that other weirdo who posted a square shaped flat map with Wolfenstein textures and called it "experimental", but i agree, he should drop the map editor and stick to Minecraft.


Oh, and the replies... it's always the replies that leave me stunned. First guy is probably a bigger newb than the OP. You can just tell from reading his post that he has no idea what he's talking about and is just regurgitating some common mapping "rules", some taken from the Romero book, but the motherfucker just quoting shit, without actually explaning anything. Like the "Be strict about texture alighnment" and "Always change floor texture when changing floor heights", that's taken verbatim from that youtube Romero's laws video.

Another moron suggest taking breaks, so doesn't get burnt out from making his MEGAWAD!!!

Next, more Romero rules. "If you see outside, make sure you can go outside". I'm not sure if this guy is just being sarcastic, poking fun at the first reply... if he is, i applaud him. If he's not, he's a retard! Edit: Scrolling down the thread, it appears that he was serious, so he is a retard.

Then we have a furfag, directly giving tips on how to make a megawad, and all of it is just sheer stupidity. "Make rooms smaller or bigger... if a room is too small, make it a closet". Yeah, thanks genius, i'm sure that will make it easy for him to create a megawad.

The thread keeps getting more and more retarded as you scroll down. All these morons give advice without actually explaining it in detail. And you might think that this shit is self-explanatory, but looking again at these screenshots, i gurantee you the OP has no idea what there morons are telling him to do.
