Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

I think it's long time the series gets away from the anime sprite bullshit. SF6 is pozzed as hell but I like they went for a more realistic look similar to Tekken.
I don't mind the anime sprite look too much. I find the 3d anime sprite look to be kind of meh though. They all kind of end up looking the same.

Right. I'd rather them be actual sprites than this trans version of cel shading that I wish would just get away from games now. Sparking Zero is a good example of really bad character models with pretty okay cel shading. If you're going to do it, do it right. I think the Ragin Blast games were infinitely better looking than SZ.

KOF14 I think looks better than KOF15.

KOF14 I think looks better than KOF15.
I think the artwork in KoF peaked with 13 honestly. The hand drawn art looks really nice in that one and the animations are really smooth. It reminds me a bit of SF3.

The problem with 13, well, problemS, was that so many characters felt gimped. A lot of characters were missing tools they had in other games like Terry, Ralph and Clark. Clark didn't even have the Frankensteiner. And because they went with sprites they couldn't easily just add in these moves without dedicating months to animating more sprites. Add that on top of a gimped single player mode, a lacking roster, and a horrible online and the game was all but a disaster excluding the art style.

It's a miracle SNK has survived this long when they keep massively fucking up. But I guess the marks will keep lining up to play their latest Bing Bing Busta Wolf crap so they can bust over soiled Mai body pillow they bought off Ebay.

I've been really enjoying cotw so far, Gato is sick as hell. Very nice to play a major modern fighting game with actually robust defensive mechanics. One of my favorite parts has been murdering jump spamming retards with full anti air combos, they learn to play neutral quick after that. I can't understand how people call the game ugly when they stare at same sf6 uncanny valley abominations day after day. The background characters in stages could definitely look a lot better though.

As far as I know they've only barely survived. Weren't they bankrupt for a while?

Fighting games in general seem like they went through a period of shit where selling dlc was pretty much the primary purpose of their existence and the games themselves were barely finished games.

Went? That's STILL a thing with the newer games that's been coming out.

Tell me, what other reason is there that they couldn't just delay the game and just release a full version with ALL the characters while making some of them unlockable to add replayability? You know, like fighting games USED to do back in the day?

Huh? That's been a thing since day fucking one with fighting games. Remember how many versions SF2 got with additional characters? Plus nobody's gonna want to wait another 2-3 years so fucking Elena or Rashid can be base roster.

Could be why the newest ones I've played are the ones I can emulate on 3ds and Vita.

This is one of them. But I downloaded all the dlc with the rom so I have no idea what the base game was like. I've read that people were pissed about it though. But, it's a pretty meh game for single player so I haven't played much of it.

Tekken, Sega's games, SNK's games, and even the obscure fighters gave you everything from the arcade + extras in one game. There's only a few off the top of my head that I can think of that had an "updated version" but they were far and few between.
  • Virtua Fighter -> Virtua Fighter Remix: "updated" the graphic and other bugs that were causing issues when the game got ported to the Saturn the first time around. PC version is based off of Remix with it's own changes.
  • DOA2 -> DOA2 Hardcore: PS2 game based off of the japanese Dreamcast version that adds more stuff
  • MK3 -> UMK3: New Characters stages and modes
  • Breakers -> Breaker's Revenge: extra character, playable boss via code, damage nerf, and visual changes.
Otherwise it was always just ONE version.

I had that game, and as I recall, the issue was that the DLC was stuff that was already on the disk and ready to go from day one.
 
Why people cocksuck KOF13 so much? I understand can cocksucking KOF98, because I'm brazilian and everyoen and their mother played that game. But 13? That game was shit and slow as fuck.

You're comparing SNK to Capcom/NRS. SNK never had a grasp on American/European audiences they way Capcom/NRS do.
SNK's biggest fans outside of Japan are in Mexico, Brasil, & France- AKA shithole countries with no money.
You're better off comparing them to franchises like Soul Calibur/Dead Or Alive/Bloody Roar.

AoF is the game with the jumbotron character sprites
AoF was SNK's best 90s sprite work. AoF 3 was never topped in that department by the OG SNK.

Agree with 98UM. OG 98 is better. But 02UM is great and a lot of characters can win, it's just that tourney fags would rather stick to their usual go to's and you see mostly just Nameless and the usual Kyo/Iori teams. The other problem with both games is that they're not on Fightcade (for obvious reasons) but the instant someone finds a way to add 02UM to that is when you'll see it explode in popularity.
