The worst being Breath of the Wild where not only do all the Beasts and shrines have the same visual look,
And the same bosses. 4 different versions of the same goop monster. 10/10 IGN GOTY.
A bit of nothing, but they did a Creator's Voice for Age of Imprisonment. Nothing new, lot's of buzzwords. Supposed to release in Winter.
Every time I see the furry I get annoyed. What did they do to you Rauru?
fukked.webp

First they make a lore blob game with no real identity besides ubisoft tropes and a fruit salad of older Zelda references - then with the very next game they throw that all out and turn it into "actually, furries and negresses made Hyrule". The plot is so lost it's on a milk carton. I await the DLC we'll get on Switch 2 in 5 years but now everything is colored red instead of blue or green, and they'll probably make it so the Majora's Mask aliens actually made Hyrule... Tears really is the Last Jedi of nuZelda, something that subverts and buttfucks the trilogy's middle chapter so hard that even when they reel it back for the final act - things still wont make any sense.

I don't know, call it coping but i still think that the open world games are on their own timeline shenanigan bullshit corner, considering even the official website has them on a separate section from the other games instead of on the 3 main timelines.

They literally outsourced it. That's why Tear's story sucks. A shame because the intro and finale are fantastic, but man the bulk of it blows.

I also have my own highly autistic headcanon. But alas, Lorefags told to GTFO.

Dude, even on Wikipedia it says that the setting Tezuka wrote for LoZ was inspired by Tolkien and European fairytales. Yeah, according to the Wiki, they were considering "technological" elements (which I actually didn't know), but those apparently were dropped early into development.
That hardly amounts to "Zelda was supposed to be a sci-fi game", I'm guessing the sci-fi-elements would have been along the lines of what we saw in WW, BotW or TotK.
How does the fact it was "dropped early" contradict it? That logic makes no sense.

Not only that but if LoZ truly was "supposed to be sci-fi" then why were none of them in the smallest amount sci-fi for forty years?
Because it was a dropped idea...? None of the games were first person either but originally OoT was going to be. By your logic that's not true either because none of the games have been since then (don't say Link's Crossbow Training).

All of this is on top of the fact that @SSj_Ness (Yiffed) promised me sources and then gave me precisely zero sources and instead decided he would try to turn it around on me like the Wind Waker loving cretin he is.
You keep Wind Waker's name out yo' MOUF!

Where are the sources big man? You said there'd be sources.

The thing to note is that the devs were considering "technological elements", while the game overall was mostly based on Tolkienesque and European mythology. I have no idea how that I supposed to amount to "LoZ was supposed to be science fiction".

I completely forgot that game existed and I wouldn't count it anyways since it's not a full blown Zelda game. I view it the same way I view Hyrule Warriors which is a gun little sidepiece for the main show.

Wind Waker is probably the third most overrated LoZ game. The most overrated is Majora's Mask and then Ocarina of Time in second place.

I'm playing Majora's Mask on 3DS and I'm 90% sure one of the earliest conversations has a spelling error:

This should be "seek the counsel of this wise, old stone", unless I'm mistaken. Far from the most egregious change in the remaster, but it's one of the first conversations in the game and they didn't even proofread it :story:

They hit F7 and didn't get yelled at so it's good to go. That's all you can ask of Nintendo these days.

The cyberpunk looking Zelda concept art certainly implies a lot more than a Tolkien-esque world but with minor technological elements.

I know, I was just being facetious.

MM is a tough call, I'd rank it highly if I wasn't triggered by time limits, anybody into that kinda thing can rightly say it's among the best imo. OoT deserves its place, maybe it's not as good as LttP or WW but it's definitely up there. WW is just fucking amazing, period.

My top 3 are WW, OoT, & LttP, though I feel bad leaving MC out.

I'm old enough that I still remember when OoT and MM were right up there with FF7 on literally every single one of those stupid ass "Top 10 Video Games Ever Made" lists basically by default back in the aughts. I hold a grudge against all three of those games for that reason, just still have a kneejerk reaction whenever I see them mentioned although lately it seems the rose tinted glasses have come off a little and people are willing to give a more measured evaluation of them. But it seems that with my generation now getting older games from my later childhood have started getting that same treatment; WW isn't a tedious slog! It's actually GREAT! No the artstyle isn't garish and over exposed and harsh on the eye! It's CHARMING and WHIMSICAL! I don't know man, I just think that the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction on Wind Waker and I think that a lot of the criticism it got when it came out is good criticism.

WW has one tedious section, the Triforce hunt, and it's not even that bad. You could argue the forced stealth section too, that's actually the part I dread most upon replays but nobody ever mentions it.

Then there's the photography side quest, but it's optional. 90% of the game is paced pretty well, and the art IS charming and whimsical, damn it.

As for FF7 & MM/OoT, FF7 is probably the weakest of the PS1 trilogy imo so I don't know how it became considered the best of them. MM deserved more criticism too, but OoT's praise is understandable. It was pretty groundbreaking and aged surprisingly well, you gotta cut it some slack.
