That was kinda the vibe of marathon 3 iirc but you're dealing with a lovecraft abomination and not some implicitly gay world. I think alot of this is apeing marathon 3 in the most surface level way since they can have cryptic nonsense but can't have pfhor or be a single player romp

Edit until 3 iirc you're in a fairly literal and grounded world with the mysteries being who the fuck are these aliens where are the colonists and are the spht truly loyal to the pfhor? And maybe there's some backstory on earth that involves some conspiracy but it's fairly obvious the answer is the government sucks iirc. Oh and your role and origin as a cyborg is iirc vague. I don't remember things getting tripping until 3 and it's reality warping. I think in 2 even you find ancient terminals showing another alien species going full looney tunes against the pfhor in an war as a joke

You're talking about Marathon being "grounded" as if the ship designers weren't smoking crack when they designed the ship layout. A lot of early FPS games have this problem, but Marathon is a big offender. I mean, lava pits on a space ship, really? How about "Colony Ship For Sale, Cheap"?
Still, I will take that early FPS jank over the soulless slop without a single original bone in it's body we have for the new deboot.

Well yeah but that's just video game trope elements not a design choice to make everything seem surreal in a dmt trip sense. I don't remember any marketing that became an X-Files arg on drugs but in off putting corpo lefty neon color palette like there is now. Which actually wouldn't be the worst direction if it was still a single player shooter where you kill aliens and was more aware of how it came across

The reason so much money was poured into it before its cancellation is because it truly was the ultimate slop shooter.
Unironically saying the quiet part out loud and having the players consoom to win. Imagine the possibilities for marketing and brand affiliation. We really dodged a bullet because if they didnt make it look like shit and it took off like Apex Legends it wouldve made the AAA market even worse than it is now forever.

You're not allowed to bring Hyenas up without mentioning one of the characters was a troon. Here's a compilation of the all the character intros; I defy you to pick out which one was the tranny.
Ignoring the painful millennial slopbait angle, the footage reminds me a lot of Radical Heights, one of the greatest live service failures of all time.

There was a game that did those weird close-up shots well called Indika but it worked in that game because that game is fucking bizzare in every way. It doesn't work if you're a generic ass FPS.

Nobody is talking about this game, it's already forgotten. Can't wait to piss all over Bungie's grave, the company is long dead and whatever this is deserves to go out of business.
