Fuck, maybe his content would improve after losing half of his brain mass to early onset dementia.

Considering how people with dementia often become childlike in their behavior and ramble incoherently about the events of their youth, it would be near impossible to see the difference in Bob's conduct.

A while back he threw a shitfit over the latest one and when he started mocking it over its freedom of choice regarding its racial themes (to people like Bob, offering any choice to people with different opinions is problematic), people rather unsurprisingly came out of the woodwork to point out to defend the game. The thing that got me though was when he said he was surprised people were going out of their way to defend, in his words, "a fucking Deus Ex game."

Bob seems totally unaware of Deus Ex's pretty profound legacy among gamers and that it had always been tackling mature subjects in a thoughtful way. He probably dismisses it because it's a dang, dirty first-person game.

It's one of the most aggravating things about him. I don't carry any brief for Deus Ex because I've never played it, but by the same token I wouldn't shit on a game I've never played, even if it's from a genre I don't care for. (Well, maybe I'd shit on JRPGs, but that's different.) If you don't like Deus Ex, fine; if you don't like modern FPS games and cover based shooters and RPGs and whatever else Bob hates, well, that's fine ... but when you hate all that and sneer at it while putting a fucking series of children's game on a pedestal as the greatest game ever made, well, I start to think that just maybe I oughtn't take your opinion very seriously, however many spastic YouTube videos you make.

Oh, it's worse then that. He referred to it as a "robot punching game". Ya know, completely miss the point of all the choices, taking your own path, all that stuff-it's just robots punching robots (despite the fact that you don't punch many robots at all!)

I love this about Bob and co.
They constantly talk about how they want games to be political and send a message about social justice, but as soon as a AAA game is announced that does just that they shit on it because it gives the player agency in the story.

You know what, I'm not much of a Deus Ex fan, couldn't really get into it, but even I know that's just horribly narrow-minded.

This is one of the things I despise about him, his dismissive attitude towards things he's never even tried. Frankly, he shouldn't even be calling himself a game critic given how easily he waves off games because of what he thinks they are rather than what they really are.

I've been playing CRPGs since 1985, and however fond my memories are of The Bard's Tale, I can admit it's not as good as Skyrim for multiple reasons. But for whatever reason, the tastes Bob had for videogames in 1990 or so are preserved in amber; nothing will ever measure up and nothing even has a chance to do so.

Basically Bob's MO. Nothing will ever eclipse his glory days, simply because he won't try anything new. This was evident when he outright could not spot the difference between Dark Souls 3 and Skyrim. Same thing happened with Mass Effect. Same thing is happening with Yooka-Laylee.

We have a guy who's so heavily invested in the past that he fails to look at the present, let alone the future. I can't think of a single game that Bob has endorsed because he found it fun; His most recent endorsement of Yooka-Laylee was and is directly tied to the decision to remove JonTron from the game. Who wants to bet that he had no clue about the game prior to the whole incident?

For a so called progressive he is surprisingly conservative about innovation in vidya.

Because heaven forbid we move on from the perfection that was Mario 3.

A game is only properly sending a message if it's a glorified manifesto on the virtues of 21st century progressive politics.

It''s funny how asshurt he is at Razorfist; as a subscriber to the guy for years who's seen every video on his channel I can say without any exaggeration he has some of the most diverse tastes in games one can imagine, from fighters like Guilty Gear and King of Fighters, to stealth games like Thief and Styx, mecha and space sims, WRPGS like Daggerfall and countless more the man LOVES video games in all their forms, retro or modern, all he demands is that they be well-made and fun to play.

Meanwhile MovieKnob is still busy spanking his chode sore to the SMB3 title screen and REEEEEing at anyone who DARES suggest that video games? Might have evolved beyond the 2D platformer in the last THIRTY FUCKING YEARS.

Gee, I wonder who the real Antithinker is here?

But it isn't evolution because women can still be rescued in videogames. They have to be the protagonists and desexualized as much as possible. That's how his second idol/waifu, Anita Sarkeesian, wants it.

Nothing can ever eclipse Mario 3 because it represents his childhood.
Look at his book "analysing" Mario 3.
You'd think it'd be about how the game was made, some background on the developers, its cultural impact, etc.
It's an autobiography about Bob's sad life.
That should tell you enough, right there.

Which is heavily ironic considering his sperging about "the Superiah Futchah!"

It's projection, plain and simple.

IIRC, there was one video of his that showed off his basement, and in the corner of the frame, I saw some Xbox 360 games. Screenshots are way back in the pages and I forget the specific video where I got them, though.
