Got around to playing MeinKraft after ages, decided to try some more unique mod packs (just one so far) and it was pretty cool. Here's some screenshots:

@Smithy129 Are ya still buildin' son?

I really like TerrafirmaGreg
One of the best and most autistic packs out there. You can thank the Russians for it.

Didn't it also have an autistic amount of forks like regular Gregtech? I remember giving it a shot and man I was not ready. It's like Caveman2Cosmos but you're the Caveman.

Bingo my nigger. It's a bit easy but I don't mind.

One of my friends wanted to play it but we never got around to it. Looked really cool.

I don't think so, unless I'm unaware of the history. There's a 1.20 version and a 1.12 one. I played the 1.20 version up to MV once. I actually wonder how many of the GT recipes are changed to incorporate TFC/Create mechanics. LV is gated by deployers but I dunno beyond that.

The grappling hook is insanely fun to use and works perfectly with the Exosphere mod (the terrain mod this pack is based around). Easy to repair and long lasting. You can mine diamonds and other ore under the islands above to void (at a slower rate) and it just feels right.

Ah ok, I can look into it a bit but it's honestly not worth concerning over. I do plan on playing TFG again this weekend.

Didnt anyone who tried to kickstart the cancelled yogscast game get promised hytale instead?
No, that was TUG (also abandoned!) and the studio moved on to "Best Buds". Which was... I'll let you guess. Nerd Kingdom would disband in 2019. I don't care about any of them to follow the trail any further. Game dev is hard, guys!

TUG... now that's a name I hadn't heard since the shilling on /mcg/ a decade ago (or longer).

In other news: following on the collapse of Hytale (previously mentioned in this thread); Tyron, the lead developer of Vintage Story (and a former dev in Hytale), decided to hire several former Hytale devs and create a parallel game mode for VS (and future separate game). This news have not been taken favourably by the VS community. More info on the VS thread.

It really is a mystery how nobody has managed to make a decent, (semi-)generalized Minecraft clone game that wasn't somehow worse than Minecraft itself. It's like the prerequisite to having the specific kind of autism required necessarily makes you lazy, robs you of the ability to understand fun, or makes you hyperspecialize your game until it's basically just a copy of your favorite modpack. Every fucking attempt to replicate base Minecraft ends up incomplete, boring, or hyperspecialized, it's basically a law.
Minecraft-likes always seem to try to tackle problems nobody really has. In my mind, the biggest issue with current MC is that mining gameplay has been almost completely shafted. Once you have a consistent source of Mending you never need to go caving again and 80% of all the material types in the game can be automated and farmed to shit. In a game where part of the core gameplay loop is supposed to be mining. No endgame cave biomes, no unique monsters, and they're terrified of adding new ore tiers.

I checked out the indev gameplay showcase for Reforj and the only thing they've been consistently demoing is the new build tools. I understand they're still in alpha and don't have a lot to show, but I don't think anyone ever complained about not being able to sculpt a pillar or whatever.
