but also because the pacing is horrible. "Character arcs" happen in 3 sentences. ... It's"payoff" with no set-up and he wants you to believe this took him 8 years to write?
This is actually the underlying reason behind the bad pacing. Despite him originally saying that the "writing is done", he actually wrote and writes this game as he makes it, area by area. So while the player only takes a minute to walk through the three empty rooms and talk to the NPCs two or three times, from Jason's viewpoint, the main character has been interacting with the NPCs for years.

I unmuted it to see if Mald was talking and he was sitting there quietly typing the entire time I've had this up. He's more focused on banning people than streaming right now. :story:

and made some excuses as to why a regex would be too hard.
Hate to give half a point to Jason, but "you can't parse HTML with regex" also applies to YAML for the same reason it applies to HTML. I somehow doubt that's what he brought up as a counterargument, though. And let's be real, you can just manually step through the matches for a halfassed regex, and decide whether you want to replace a match or not.

A chatter recommended he use a database instead of a YAML file and Mald has an excuse saying he doesn't want "the database to fall over." and how that happened before.... What? Mald is so reliably moronic.
It's like he's a personification of this meme:
midwit bell curve.webp

I've known people like this that I know for a fucking fact are competent enough to just drum up a quick shell script to automate a repetitive task, but they do it manually because it takes up more time and makes it look like they're doing work while they effectively zone out while listening to podcasts or some shit. First time I've seen this behavior on a stream before though... he doesn't have a boss he needs to fool anymore, but I guess old habits die hard.
Not a boss, but an audience. Maintaining an image of something you're not is a lot like trying to fool your boss, but at a larger scale.

That line right there is from personal experience. He was never going to get promoted out of QA.
I was wondering if that was his personal experience at blizzard.
Where they kept throwing him into different roles because nobody could tolerate his retarded bullshit.
I would almost wager the walking into IT with a sticker on his face was something he actually did in real life to act all "zany random XD" and IT had it with his childish shit and sent him to the next group after.

SEETHING about quin69. He paused the whole stream for multiple minutes to find a clip and seethe about it
4:03 - Maldavius, will you address the ferret rape allegations?

He's butthurt about this twitter post for some reason,
View attachment 7644654
He wants this post to be about him so bad he was seething and saying "waiting on ads btw" the whole stream.

"Pausing for ads is so heckin wholesome they should do it about me for good PR."
He does the same shit with his 100 songs for the game. Where it makes him a great guy for letting people use his game music for background music on youtube...
Which I don't think anyone does.

They're trivial good will gestures that no one gives a fuck about because they're so trivial. Its the equivalent of holding a door open for someone going into a building alongside you.

He needed to replace certain keys that ended in "5," like "some_magical_boot_5:" and would scroll through, eyeballing it. The least he could do is use a pattern to highlight all lines that match his criteria to make eyeballing it easier, eg ^.*5\:. I don't know if that sort of highlighting is in Notepad++ or not though, to be honest.

There's no reason to not just use a lightmap as a layer.
The funny thing is is that he *does* use lightmaps, only he never tells anyone (there is *one* instance of the word "light ?map" in his VODs, and it's in reference to the game that made Mald (according to Mald) write his shitty RTX in the first place :story:):

His retarded "raytraced PBR" bullshit seem to only work for the protaGone'ist and the dog, for like a room or two. Of course Mald wants everyone to think that *everything* is using his "extremely efficient" RTX, which is obviously not true if you take one look at the "game".

Yeah, and there's very little difference between his speaking and his writing. Everything he says sounds arrogant.
It's so funny to me how he explicitly says it will be ready Wednesday because that day he'll be free to "hammer that the whole day."
It's such an unbelievably immature position to assume, especially with such pride. It's beyond ridiculous.

And it makes it sound like it's not going to be ready at all.
And if it is ready, it's going to be obviously rushed.
It's such disrespect to his customers.
Whatever this update is and whenever it comes, it's going to be worthless. After watching the whole playthrough and not just a review, I was in awe of how bad Heartbound is.
You could program something better on the commodore vic-20 with basic decades ago.

Pretty much, yeah. You can absolutely do that with Notepad++. You can even write a regex, then cycle through all the matches and click Replace for only those you want replaced. This would be faster than copy-pasting.

It's like he wants people to troll him. He's acting like a heel in wrestling.
Even more than his ferrets, what really gets him off is banning people live. It's the ultimate coom for him. Banning and talking about banning people is what really gets his rocks off.
It's wild to witness.

@Not Yet Implemented had pointed out that it's definitely possible, but i wanted to give a lil visual just in case it can be useful for you
and like he said you can go 1 by 1 replacing, or replace all with exact matches etc

im too retarded atm to refine the regex and make it look like a non shit example but i hope it helps

He over exaggerate his skill and knowledge level so much it's manipulative and creepy.

Seeing his code was shocking it's almost psychotic to sit there knowing you produce that quality while presenting yourself as
Did anyone save todays stream? Someone told him that quin69 was currently playing the Heartbound demo and he had an hour long spergout, and then quickly deleted the vod and all the clips afterwards. He kept talking trash about quin and how quin had been harassing him for several months. The only clips i managed to save where the two that he watched on his stream. The funny thing was that he wasnt hate playing the game at all, and due to being a huge contrarian he tried his hardest to like it and gave it a good review afterwards.

You have to remember how he talks about himself his code should the kind that makes you go how did they do that in this engine.

Someone who genuinely had his skill set could finish that game in months.

I swear @boing boing had this exact anecdote about him being thrown around blizz, but i can't find it anymore, if anyone else can find it it'd be much appreciated.

I think the heartbound demo is now gone

its in steam store, demos were separated from full products and get their own listings now.

still showing on same page as store for me :o
just gonna throw this out there: the demo and standalone game have a 30 day peak of 8 players.
demo hit the peak today(for the month)!

also a little sidebar to him saying there's no money incentive or w/e, i find that insane considering the estimated people that have bought his game.
1752539358073.webp

let's say for a second the lowest number here is accurate, that's about a million dollars.
let's cut the price in half, and say half the keys were gifted.
that's still $250,000
whos actually falling for him not making money off the game?
the review-purchase ratio of 1/10 is kinda low, the average for indie games is lower than aaa games but from what info i can find (deep rock galactic etc that have their sales on a wiki(~30 reviews/sale))
so 3,000 reviews to 30,000 purchases being about a quarter mill income wouldn't be unfair to say i think, this would probably cover refunds too being super on the low side of estimates anyway

even then i think we proved the review->refund shit is cope
