This dude seems legit. He at least went to a decent school for the area, got some props there for exceptional oral advocacy skills (not the kind Nick would like) that it'd take to think quick on his feet in this type of hearing, has had more cases in MCRO than Nick and the Barneswalker combined, and has had felony drug prosecution experiences in the windy city that should have left him knowing crazed junkie antics like the back of his hand, making it easier to paint Nick with that brush in a way district judges are all too familiar with. Not that it matters much when even F. Lee Bailey himself would be hard-pressed to salvage this dogshit case, but a pro should at least be able to take all this sanctions talk off the menu.
Oh, and after the whole game of hopscotch passed these cases through Judge Maas, Judge Pearson, Judge Cashman, Judge Wang, and the quintessentially Minnesotan Judge Ole Tvetson, the new judge appointed for both rescheduled hearings is one Michelle Clark out of Douglas County, with just the former-prosecutor background and just the meth-central caseload to also have a keen eye for crazed junkie antics like Nick's and be having none of it. Plus we all know just how funny he can get when it's a woman telling him what not to do...
