Hard to say with those people. They like to cozy up to folk who are special/important. Probably why most people in that space are very quiet lately. Saying nothing gives them an easy out, without brining the bridge.

I think the irony of nepotism isn't necessarily that it diminishes the subject. The subject often just does not have the capacity to understand all of the benefits afforded to them, and I can see many cases where that's innocent enough.

Obviously not in Jason's case. I am sure he finds a way to work his dad into convo within the first hour of meeting new people, and that definitely helped him to be taken seriously by basically anyone. 2 options being affordances (false respect) were extended to him or people were just willing to tolerate him just to get some access to his dad/other contacts.
