I know, I was responding to the guy's point that AI isn't art because prompting is easy and the user doesn't have absolute control over their creation. Photography requires a simple action on the user's part and a lot of professional photographers (especially nature and event photographers) shotgun photos by taking them in bursts and hoping they got something really good when they sort through it all later because they do not have control over their subjects and environment.

A little off topic, but this reminds me of an old website YouAreNotAPhotographer which sadly hasn't been updated in years, but has a lot of good gems. These "professional" photos look they they belong on a Corey Feldman album cover.

AI, regardless of if we want it or not, is part of the industry and has been for longer than people have been bitching about it. It isn't going anywhere and it never delivers anything good without you having to wrangle it. The AI bubble is bursting. The AI tools to make things worth making are going to become normalised sooner rather than later and then the analog purists won't have that much of a problem because they will be cheaper and simpler to use. And then how apathetic most people are to analog horror now will feel like the golden age because when everyone can do it, it ceases to be special.

God forgive me, but this is Urbanspook all over again. Something isn't bad by itself, it is bad because someone we don't like does it. Wendigoon even resorted to doing the same exact thing he did back then of "I will buy all your merch" if you do as I say.

Ai slop channels are good enough as back background noise as his slop is, that's imo what's getting him so mati about it.

Maybe, but I'm more inclined to belive that it's a backroom deal with the Angel Engine creator and game devs. The creator gets a tounge lashing from Wendi about using AI buuuut he has seen the light!! No more AI and the game has no AI so please play the game and take me serious as a creator.

Doubt it, it is a retarded marketing ploy if it is. The Anti AI crowed is not forgiving and will review bomb games if they THINK it has AI in it even if it doesn't. Once you use AI your project is basically forever tainted as far as they are concerned. Also having a major creator bash the project, even if it is a different part is just terrible for PR, I doubt many people will be willing to give it a chance if the big lips man says it is just a lazy cash in on trends, I doubt people will give the game a chance if they stumble across it on steam after seeing wendigoons video.

Dropping this early. Either the scene at the bus station is pissing me off or it's the fucking annoying voice Meat uses when he voices a female character that's pissing me off especially today. Maybe a bit of both, but I'm not listening to that voice for three-and-a-half fucking hours. Or probably closer to 2 hours given how much these two stop stories to talk about some other shit.

This is what I got out of Wendi's criticism, other than the copy-paste AI-resources argument.

Wendigoon is a guy whose favorite thing is to hyperanalyze details of a story. He's a sucker for lore, especially when it's Christian-adjacent.

A story where the visuals are AI and lazy prompting/not well-edited has too much "did the author Mean this element, or is this just random from the machine" in it for him to hyperanalyze details... but he still wants to, all the while knowing it's not going to lead to anything profound because there's no way to know if an element is just accidental.

It's like fans who obsess over a detail in a movie, then 20 years later the creator says "yeah that was just the only costume we could get / that design element was there and nobody noticed until way after editing." Not quite the same as a fan who obsesses over song lyrics and then the writer says "man I don't even know I was super high," because that at least came out of the writer's brain and can be argued to be unconscious influence.

Or to be super pretentious but shorter:

Wendi is a guy who pores over the Bible, which writing by definition is divinely-inspired. He feels the urge to analyze this property, but repulsion because he knows there's no human and no spark of the Divine but it's still leading him down the same pathway.

It was alright, didn’t make the mistake of explaining away the mystery at least. We also got more of Isaiah’s cringe lore which is always a treat Wendi was not only an avid fan of Dr. Who (incredibly homosexual in its own right) but he was so inspired by the Van Gogh episode that he wrote a fanfic about it with respect to Gogh’s suicide, which is so Tumblr it’s almost impressive

Agreed. The most troglodytic complaint about AI is still the “it kills a billion Africans by obliterating clean water” comment. The only legitimate version of that is depreciating neighborhood values and jacking the price of electricity by not paying their fair share through some Talmudic loophole, but even that’s not unique to AI data centers.

hearing that Whitefall is "some place in North Dakota" perked my ears a little having grown up there. That fucking place NEVER gets talked about and it's actually a pretty spooky fucking place that I think it perfect for some scary stories.

There's a runaway teenager who doesn't like to be touched but as far as I've gotten it hasn't explicitly been stated why, and a guy who tried to touch her got his shit kicked in and thrown out of the bus in the middle of nowhere.

I think I'm just getting to the spoopy part but won't be finishing until tomorrow. Whitefall seems like it's going to be purgatory or something, or maybe The Mist but with snow instead of fog
