And there's no penitence here, either; he's still digging in his heels, to this day. He just wants the meanies to leave him alone, without having to admit he made any serious errors, or was an asshole.
That he's been an internet laughingstock, the recipient of a torrent of insults, jeering, and abuse, still isn't his fault. He might, if pressed, admit to some minor mistakes, but he's still convinced he's right and everyone who has ever opposed him is wrong, and piling on him for no good reason. If the stink of notoriety clings to him, it's because of the kinds of trolls who wish cancer on him--not because he keeps fucking up, while being an arrogant little jerk.
He still can't see how his actions--and his defense of them--have been foolish, misguided, and a fitting target for mockery. He showed poor judgment and behaved terribly at Carroll, but still refuses to admit it. And even after numerous lawyers told him he had no case, he refused to accept the consequences of his own actions, stop fighting, and move on with his life. Had he done that, we never would have heard of Skylar Ittner. He might even have managed, after reflecting upon his actions and showing sincere penitance, to work out a deal with Carroll that would have allowed him to finish his BA.
Nah--fuck that. He had to go full exceptional. He launched his Keep Carroll Catholic campaign, make his situation public via Reddit, and put his arrogance and hubris on blast. And he's still doing it--this most recent post shows that he's learned nothing.
I don't doubt he and his parents have been the recipients of some truly hideous comments by the kinds of people who are always looking for a fresh target to sling shit at. But on Reddit, and here, there have been plenty of people willing to point out to him exactly why things went the way they did, and how he wasn't doing himself any favors, and that doubling down was just going to make things worse. And that was before Fancy Bear made their appearance! I've seen a lot of constructive commentary and good advice in this thread, as well as on Reddit, and if he'd just stopped and said to himself, "Hey, maybe some of these people are right. Maybe I need to stop what I'm doing and think this over," he wouldn't be a branded lolcow with the hurt butt to prove it.
He's learned nothing from this experience, and takes no responsibility for it, so he's still whining about how mean people have been to him on the internet.

Imagine putting in like 15/16th's of the required time at college and ending up like this trainwreck of a person. All that wasted time, money, and effort. And as far as I can tell, Skylar seems unable to move on (perhaps because he burned every single bridge around him with napalm).

Of course he'll continue to focus on and milk this, because it serves as an excuse and justification for any future failings of his. Instead of putting in effort to dust himself off and obtain an education and career, he can take comfort in proclaiming himself to be a righteous martyr who was unjustly punished for his sincerely held religious convictions and prevented from being a functional member of society, and use that to justify sitting around his parents house doing nothing productive, bringing in no income, and pretending to be a software developer.
A part of him is probably happy that this is an out for him and he doesn't have to worry about what to do after graduating now.
(I realized after writing this post that it all reminds me of the Iconoclast; just replace "religious convictions" with "political beliefs" and "software developer" with "writer/illustrator." @Skylar Ittner, if you ever come back, check out his thread for a glimpse into your future.)

A man showed up in /r/legaladvice to ask for help on suing his college for unlawfully expelling him. He claimed to have gone to 50 lawyers to sue his college and they all turned him down.

The man, Skylar Ittner, wanted to put his homemade posters up about homosexuality. The college he went to, Carroll Catholic, had a rule that you had to get permission to put up posters on the bulletin board. He did not ask for permission to put up the posters. He was confronted by staff over him putting up posters, he refused to stop putting them up. 3 days later, he was observed posting the posters again, and was confronted by staff members.
He decided to videotape his encounter with the staff members, despite being asked to not record.He in the video tape refused to stop putting up the posters despite being ordered to stop, and started to argue with the staff members over their policies. When the staff members took down his posters, and refused to give them back, he started to get aggressive towards them. Skylar threatened to call the police on the staff members and made several attempts to grab the papers from their hands. He ended up following the staff members for the next several minutes threatening to call the police on them, ordering them to give back his posters and made several more attempts to grab the posters. Security was called on him and he ended up having to leave the school. He also threatened to put the posters on the wall, and to ducktape them to make them harder to take down. Due to his actions he was expelled from the college.
He did not accept that he had no case to sue the school :
