I'm thinking maybe "Poison Crossbow" is a specific item out of some game (that time travelling crusader assassin one maybe?), and so to Eli all crossbows, even shitty rubber band and pencil ones, are "Poison Crossbows".

I can't speak for anyone else, but the bigoted arsehole deserves any and all consequences coming to him if/when he gets back to the States.
Though I still don't want to see him die over there. Just for his parents' sake if nothing else.

IIRC, you need to be a reservist or have military experience and, anyways, the whole packing heat thing is heavily regulated. (Unless you're a settler, I think they hand out machine guns to those guys.)

There is a "poison crossbow" in Dark Souls II, which, if memory serves, is one of the games Jace plays.

Military service is compulsory for a period of time and in that sense the populace as a whole are reservists. The reason being that Israel is a heavily militarized state where each citizen is drilled to believe they're on the precipice of an outright war.
