Had to make an account to comment on this mess. This shit is hilarious, sad, and hilariously sad all at once. It's perfect.
I think there's also a more simple explanation to it, as well: Sabat and Rial are cowards. They tried to drag Vic through the dirt and although they did some damage, their narrative quickly fell apart like tissue paper. Nobody likes being exposed, so imagine what it's like for two narcs to be called out on their mistakes, especially since they've appointed themselves judge and jury.
They fucked a man in the ass and don't even have the courtesy to look at him in the face afterwards.
Remember, the hot take was that Vic should go off, apologise for all the rape, beg for forgiveness, then fade into obscurity as the new woke and righteous thinking took their earned places at the top table for all Funimation roles. Personal friends of Rial and Sabat have benefited from Vic being fired from all his roles in Texas and everyone else has "moved up one" meaning longer queues at cons, more appearances (and associated fees) and more chances to hock merch and make more money. All for the low, low cost of an innocent man, his livelyhood and reputation. It's cost them nothing at all for now, and has been repeated writ large across whole communities for the better part of a decade.
Also, do not underestimate how fucking important these morons think they are. That seething jealousy is what has driven them since at least November, if not for years. They're still on the high for "winning the fight" not realising they barely scraped by round one. This is why they've (allegedly) thrown their weight around at Kamahecon, they still think they're winning despite the fact the wheels of civil litigation have begun to squeak and squeal as they slowly start to turn.
They're acting like bullies because the current VAs not turning up would hurt the con's bottom line. Not many people realise all this stupid shit is going down and Sabat and Rial need the extra win. As Nick pointed out, it's shitloads of money at a time when most lawyers by the point of this fucking train wreck will be asking for $40-50k up front each and they won't be able to fucking resist trying to punt their story out there again at the DBZ convention where all the core fans are going to be watching and are not aware of the situation.
As Nick guessed, rightly, they'd be able to pick up 20-30k easily in a single weekend talking to people they hate the sight of and for signing shit as lazily as humanly fucking possible.
They're well aware of the litigation coming, the problem is they have tiny lizard brains addicted to social media and approved news sources so have no fucking clue them screaming Vic's a rapist or a predator repeatedly is just making things a lot worse for them, and this situation with the con?
Well, for starters they threatened the con with a no-show if Vic was reinvited. That's TI with contract as everyone was contracted to appear to the point as @AnOminous has said it's basically text book slam dunk. So, strike one.
Strike two is threatening to call all their friends and for them to no-show if Vic was reinvited. That, if proven, is outright extortion and an actual criminal offence. It's where the "That's an awful nice X you got there" meme comes from. We've apparently got proof that these fucking idiots, at a time when they're being served papers, decided to wail on a guy for three hours straight by text telling him they'd try and ruin his con by giving him a bunch of empty tables and probably make some further idiotic public statements about how evil people are for backing Vic.
