Sorry for the misunderstanding. The line has been changed, but the accusation that Funimation manipulated the video to add it in was unfounded. The mouth flaps are the same in both versions.

That being said, the line in question isn't even that bad in the content of the scene. Here's a quick summary from wikipedia,

As Yuki fears she is being gossiped about because she is a demi-human, Tetsuo seeks some advice from Sakie, who believes Yuki's personal issues are connected with her demi nature. Having overheard their conversation, Hikari decides to confront the girls about their gossiping herself, working up all her courage to tell them how wrong it is to badmouth others.

In the dub, the girl responds by saying, "You some kind of social justice warrior?"

While this translation is not accurate to the sub line of "Why are you so go-hung about this?", it does fit with the spirit of what is being said.

Anybody worth anything would tell you screw Roddenberry. I read a couple years ago there was some other writer really helped make Star Trek. If people were as informed on animation and film editing tech, they'd understand why an award category for edits exist.

That's the thing, the buzzword line changes are exceptions to the rule, not the norm. Of the hundreds shows Funimation has dubbed over the years, there's very few that actually did that.

Of the shows I've seen or heard about, I've only heard it in Prison School (which got changed for the disc release if I remember), Dragon Maid, Interviews With Monster Girls, and Girlfriend Is A Gal. There's the argument to be had that even those four are too many, but it's not like you can pick an episode at random and be assailed by complaints about the patriarchy.

TBH, my knowledge of dubbing only goes as far at the late 1990's so anything before that is a bit vague for me. However with the way people have constantly rewriting the script to fit American sensitivities is just dumb and it's damaging to the dubs and franchise aboard. People have to have an understanding of japanese culture and if you can't translate that to people outside Japan, it's gonna be horrible and joke like this:View attachment 708878

Values dissonance is also another thing. Sausage Party despite being a western cartoon is not rated as mature over in Denmark as it would be in America and in many manga translations, Characters swear a lot more, I even saw the Beta-Goku mention it in a video (can't remember which one).

There has been mixed success with Dubs being unmolested, with Kai, they went with the original script as much as possible but at the same time with Dragon maid is a total interjection of their SJW ideals and it sinks. People should just translate not change the script into what they want. I don't care if 90% of it goes into adult swim if it doesn't get bowlerized and censored. because i'd say people want to an authentic anime in dub format instead of it being forcibly changed horseshit that pleases the censors.

You are never going to get “perfect accurate and authentic dubs” for the simple reason that humor is typically not directly translatable. A lot of Japanese humor in particular tends to be pun’ish and centered around elements of Japanese language. It doesn’t directly translate well for a number of reasons, not the least being North American audiences equate pun based humor as only surpassed by Mimes on the list of comedies that should be viewed as a Capital Offense.

That was more or less my understanding. Warner just bought them, and a whole bunch of people from the division that was doing it got laid off.

If they do end up doing it, I'm betting they'll keep progress announcements low key from here on out. The response to that release preview was disastrous. They had to disable like/unlike ratings on the video.

CR got hit with a massive backlash, and cancellation wave over that horrible High Guardian Spice trailer crowing about their diverse team of look alike pink haired misandrist lesbians.

Yes, I mentioned that before as well on my very first post. She's the lead that approved every single one of them.
