Phil plays minecraft and sits in the bathroom on CoD and thinks that Days Gone would be too boring???
Don't let him fool you. His "chill" streams that consist of blackout, minecraft, subnautica etc. are not him actually giving a shit. What he means by chill he means he doesn't have to actually give a fuck about the game and expect money. He wants to turn his brain off.

Blackout? Sit in a toilet, camp, and stare at a screen. No danger involved in that.
Minecwaft? Fucking dick around while staring at a screen. No direction. No objective. Just break blocks and make them again.
Subnautica is the same. Swim around. Find shit. Make shit.
Phoenix Wright? Fucking read shit and let it play out.

It's not chill for you, it's chill for him. Remember, this is the guy that hates when his chat doesn't talk about his immersive gameplay. If you are talking about anything but whatever the hell he is doing or not sucking his dick, he will not give a shit.

Really to me what it boils down to is what Phil values more: money or enjoying his hobby/"""job""". I should note, I can't seem to nail down which one he prioritizes more, since while money obviously makes an unpleasant game much easier for him to swallow, he doesn't get the amount he needs for that dopamine hit nearly as consistently as he needs to maintain a consistently positive attitude. For his mental health he'd be much better off taking a lower payout and sticking with games he enjoys playing*.

You're forgetting his ego, which dominates even his greed most of the time. It's why he's not doing MK11 online--he can't handle getting his shit pushed in all the time, but he's also not willing to admit he's just not that great. So the obvious answer is to just avoid the difficulty and pretend he's "bored" of online while playing the same game's even more boring modes.

@Raven'sChild Hey, could this shot of Phil's poll heavily in favor of Days Gone get added to the OP? All conversation about the game is centered on that poll, now 🤓

740644

This was my screengrab taken not too long after the poll went up. IIRC, the last time I saw the results, it was 67% in favor, with 500 something votes.

Edit: Well, he's playing it now. I guess it doesn't really matter 😁

A whale just tipped $100 for Days Gone and suddenly he's gonna get it because the whale "covered" the tahxes for buying the game.

Added bonus: hemmed and hawed, even after getting the $100, and legit sounded disappointed he's going to have to buy it. Also stated, with palpable glee, that "if it's boring", he can just drop it after 2 streams!

I legit hope that happens, because acebest deserves to watch that money get burned in front of his face.

Is that 100 dollar tip the fist substantial amount of money he’s got lately? If it is it must’ve hurt all the more having to buy days gone with it days after the hypes died down. It sounded like he was being gutted he was so sad

I thought Swaggins was done with Phil.

He is. Acebest is one of Phil's once-a-month "contributors". Like flybeast, planetjeff, and afghanistan.

Still working on tabulating tips, but it's easily the largest tip he's gotten since bishopofmercy did a $50 tip during a night stream. There's probably been some days where he went over $100 in tips, but it's mostly been (relatively) slow. Phil's more or less on pace for a barely above-average month.

i guess the sales tax in washington is 40 bucks for every 60 bucks?

because that's what it sounds like he said

So I was thinking about this...he was definitely referring to federal/state taxes. If we assume he should hold back ~25% of anything he "earns", that's $25 out of $100, leaving $75. Take out $60 for Days Gone + $3.90 if WA state sales tax is applied, and we're down to $11.10. Take out the 1.5% B&O tax, which amounts to a mere $1.50 on $100, and we're left with $9.60 remaining.

Now, if that was it, I could see where he wouldn't be super pumped about getting the $100. Thing is, he will literally make that money back the 1st stream via cheers, subs, and tips. But based on his Twitter postings, he's already setting up to do 2 streams and then declare that it's boring (probably from "some people's" comments). It's just breathtakingly stupid all-around, and a good example of how poor his business sense is.

You've kept track of Phil's money, has there ever been a playthrough where between Twitch and YouTube (and Patreon if that was involved) Phil didn't at least make his money back for the game? I'm trying to think of a game where he quit on the first day and also didn't make $60. That Final Fantasy fighter he bought but never played. He played the Beta or demo though so even on a game he didn't touch he made some of that money back.

I can't wait to see DSP trying to master the game's uneven terrain, narrow roads littered with debris and zahmbies, and forests with trees that don't move out of the way for some reason, all while riding a motorcycle that takes damage by simply looking at it and needs to be refuelled regularly in zhambie-infested areas.

That DSP fan must have quite a lack of self respect if he doesn't mind paying $100 for a $70 game so that an unpleasant old guy can play and make money out of it without even properly thanking him for it.
