Quite a bit of the concept art had gold and white environments that were significantly different to the hell areas we'd seen. Makes sense all of a sudden.
Slayer just wanting every demon dead regardless of who gets in the fucking way, rather than an inherently righteous force, is metal as fuck.
I do agree with you both; his actions in the previous game were pretty much entirely motivated by killing demons. There's even the implication that he only follows Sam Hayden's orders because it allowed him to kill more efficiently, and it's not like he had much of a choice. That said, there is that one line in the trailer that interests me. It's when the voice tells the Doom Slayer, "They are no longer your people to save."Him being only concerned with demon slaying was kinda hinted in the last game, where it’s sorta implied that some of your actions (i.e. Argent theft) could result in human deaths
That says two things to me; it either says that he'll ignore the advice to kill demons or he'll ignore it to save an unspecified group of people. While it might be the former given the character we're talking about, it's the use of the word "save" that intrigues me, since it didn't seem as though he were trying to save anyone in the last game, but it implies that the Doom Slayer might be motivated by something more than just murdering demons. After all, in the last game everyone was dead but there are at least some alive humans running around in this one. I might be looking too much into it, but I feel like there's something else there given that you don't describe the Doom Slayer as someone who "saves."
