I believe Barb is the entire factor as to why Bob's kids cut him off. It's been stated plenty of times ,but her entire family hates her, plus she has a son that wants nothing to do with her even if he's bitter for the wrong reasons.. In fact the only one in her family who doesn't hate her is Chris and that's primarily due to years of her emotionally manipulating and coddling him. He's also very gullible and has no self awareness to realize how weird his relationship with Barb is.

The problem with Bob and his first family is how little we know on why they separated, it could have been all on Bob or maybe not (again, we dont know, we could use Cole's words but since I dont trust that discount Doug Walker im not counting them much). What we do know is that Bob was still recovering and wishing to start over, which Barb obviously took advantage of, which is tragic since Bob's family seemed to have been mostly filled with productive sucesseful members of society.

Bob and his first wife separated in 1976 and divorced in 1980. Bob and Barb were married in 1980. It's possible that Barb played a role, but I don't think we have a record of when Bob and Barb met, only that it was at a karaoke night at a bar that a friend of Cole's worked at (and if we did have a record, I think it's been lost, since I looked for the date about a year ago).

You know, I wonder what the "she chased him down the hall" line actually meant, did she run after him or it could just be how the parents described it? (obviously exageratting but since Chris is autistic, he has a hard time not taking things literally)

If I had any facet of a relation to him/Mommie Dearest, the most attention it would get out of me would be to hire a lawyer to ensure that I've covered every imaginable base to insulate myself from any potential legal responsibility for either of them under any circumstances. Just to be certain.

And their intentional distance doesn't make me feel sorry for Chris because he has a history of demonstratively shitting on everyone around him, most especially when they're trying to help. Doesn't matter why he does it or where he learned the behavior, I wouldn't leave anything to chance in making sure he can't drag his literal & figurative shit into my life at any point.

So I can't find fault with any of them for the radio silence.

What people dont seem to get that people that are living wrecks like Chris and Wingsof "Richard" Redemption is that they are beyond help. What they actually want is your pity but not help. Both of them were already attempted to be helped only for them to turn it away when it wasnt going as well for them when they just got pity. They are ungrateful and extremely selfish in their own little bubble. Its like a lot of homeless (not all, of course), they just want your pity induced money rather than actually help to improve their lives since that takes personal effort.

These people want your pity (and money), not help.

Well according to Bob's first letter to Chris, he was at a very low point in his life since he claimed to have had no friendship with either of his two other children since separating from his first wife.

He was probably drowning his sorrows when Barb showed up at the bar with her friends. It being karaoke night probably allowed him to loosen up and have a little fun, and during their interactions Barb was able to find out that he was an engineer with a nice pension and a paid off house (I think? I'm not sure if Bob owned it before marrying Barb). She definitely wanted more out of him than just a geriatric cock to ride, and saw that he was vulnerable and starved for companionship.

We don't really know what Bob was like in his youth, but it's common for physically abusive parents to mellow out in their old age once they become feeble and suddenly they have no leverage against their adult children. He was probably incredibly strict with David and Carol, but it probably had a lot to do with why they're so successful. Like it or not, escaping an abusive situation helps motivate children to succeed. Bob at least accomplished that much. If he had been 20-30 years younger when had Chris, he would've whipped his ass with a wooden spoon the moment he started tard raging.

Nope. Carol never visited as far as I'm concerned, and He had a few eye doctor appointments with David and he went to the funeral but that's it.

We know next to nothing about Carol aside from the fact she has a government job of some sort. She might not even be in the same state as the other Chandlers. There's a good chance that Carol may have wanted to attend Bob's funeral in 2011, but simply could not do it because of geographic distance or some other factor beyond her control. A lot of adults with an otherwise normal relationship with their parents end up becoming estranged from them due to long distances or job demands. This is especially true among older generations from the pre-internet era.

David showed up to the funeral and was on good enough terms with Bob to give Chris a few eye appointments. Keep in mind that David and Carol were both adults by the time Bob married Barb and had just left the nest. They had their own lives to live and based on what we know about Bob and Barb, it's very likely that Barb was the main reason why Bob's kids didn't stay in touch with him in his later years.

Cole says a lot of bad shit about Bob, but Cole is a notorious asshole and a pretentious hipster douchebag. He may be a lot of things, but a reliable source is not one of them.

Honestly I didn't account for chris's internet infamy as to why his relatives didn't like him. When he said that all of barbs relatives that outlived Aunt Corrina hated barb and weren't very fond of him, this was after he got discovered by the internet. Aunt Corrina died 2 years after ED first made their page on him, and by then all of his relatives on barbs side probably knew about his online infamy and just decided to never talk to him. If we're being honest it's better they don't have contact with him.

That's not losing touch with your dad, that's cold as fuck. You don't have a child and then not even give your dad a phone call to let him know, only to mention it in passing to your mongo half-brother 8 years later. Supposing he even willingly did, maybe he had a picture with the kid on his practice, Chris asked, and he felt obliged to tell him.
