I meant to refer to the mortgage. When Barb dies, they won't allow the debt to be transferred to Chris. The house will be cleared out and sold as is and probably won't even cover the debt. Chris will be left without a place to live and no money except the tugboat. Anyone who gives a credit card to Chris deserves what they get.

You can't inherit debt in the USA. The estate of the decedent pays the bills and that generally means the estate must be sold. If the bank owns the house and takes it back, then Blorb's other creditors are shit out of luck. They can and will harass offspring anyway, but you can cease and desist them. I feel sorry for Cole if he must become the executor and deal with burial arrangements and probate court.... and since he is oldest, I think he will. Some people think that Chris cutting his taint open was him being a dumbass, but they ultimately think it was just a drunk, spur-of-the-moment thing. Someone said "you're not a real woman" and Chris was like "I'll show you a real woman " and grabbed the knife.

Dementia was an example of a mental illness that doesn't come with visual or auditory hallucinations. There are other mental illnesses that don't have quite as obvious a neurological origin as dementia, and consist primarily of serious delusional beliefs. Because the magic is "real" and he can demonstrate it, I don't think Chris would have any problem telling professionals about it. I think you underestimate the level of confidence Chris has in his belief in this shit. It's not even a question of it being a "belief" to him, it's simply reality to Chris. Because of this, he wouldn't think a professional is a threat. To Chris, telling them about magic is on par with him telling them that it's raining outside. What's there to fear?

I mostly agree. Except that the moment he’s left to his own devices he won’t be okay. We all have bad days. Days that are fucking terrible. We have our methods of coping with it. You or me? I’m sure we have our own coping mechanisms. But Chris copes by pretending Mewtwo is in the room with him and talking to him. Chris lacked any form of guidance beyond Bob trying to show him how to get one over on the system and Barb “Wheelin’ and Dealin’” - objectively bad parenting. He also has over inflated self importance and a very over active imagination.

There’s people with both worse off than Chris but they don’t make their presence quite as well known. Chris legit thinks he’s the center of the Universe in some way or another but he is evening out some by way of meds. The donations just confirm this in his mind and he views the world as this struggle of Good and Evil that he’s the center of and I’d wager this predates the trolling. I know this because I know at least 2 people way more delusional, narcissistic, and imaginative than Chris and I’m telling you that these people live with their mom who shelter them, and in a group home respectively and I was kind of a dick to them growing up so I still check up on them. They just don’t have the online presence Chris has. If they did they’d be fucking worse off than he does.

But Chris also has a unique tendency, he doesn’t get daunted when his delusions are cut. No it actually emboldens him and he wants to try harder than ever. Even if it means making shit up. If he believes strongly enough, maybe it will come true. There doesn’t need to be logic or reason behind it. Chris believes and in that moment that belief is all that matters. Oh it failed? Oh well, next time will be better and eventually he puts those previous delusions in the back of his head and forgets they were ever there until someone reminds him and he sighs and muses about it a little before trying to change the subject.

It's extremely difficult to get someone 'committed' for a chronic mental illness- especially when it's being pushed by someone other than the immediate family. Even if Barb tried I don't see it happening. The state simply does not want to spend its resources on this stuff. Technically the patient is responsible for payment but it's not like CWC would be paying anything back.

Because Chris has a recorded history of self harm (he went to the hospital for it) in connection with his delusional beliefs, she probably could get power of attorney or something like that. It's possible, it'd just take a busybody with a lot of time pestering the right authorities for a bit.

Practically speaking I don't think any of it would fly for a sustained commitment. If someone had gotten him in the system right after he cut his taint it likely would have earned him a stay but probably only the initial emergency observation and eval. Maybe 30 days commitment (after which is another required hearing). But once someone is no longer showing signs of imminent self harm or dangerous behavior (i.e. John Bulla) they're not going to stay in there even if they believe they have magical powers or a vagina growing under their taint. That shit just doesn't matter for inpatient. I would not be surprised if staff were to essentially tell someone like CWC to just leave his taint alone rather than try to convince him that he doesn't have female genitalia under there. The statute requires recent actions, threats, or an inability to provide for one's own basic needs for inpatient.

And, sure, you could argue that CWC can't provide for himself but the truth is that he's just not at the level where people get involuntarily committed for sustained terms these days. There just isn't money allocated to look after tards. So they're out on the street if they aren't being sheltered by relatives.
