Are videogames for children?

I can buy one more game for my switch and was wondering if Zelda: BOTW was a must have title? I know its probably overrated by critics but is it an actual great game? How many hours can I get out of it? I love long games with lots of shit to do/look for.

I think it's great and very charming, it was the first mainline Zelda that felt fresh to me since Wind Waker.

Or to quickly describe the gameplay itself: By being inspired by Skyrim Nintendo created a better Far Cry.

Playin' through the PS2 GTAs. I lived a horribly deprived childhood and was barred from them (Got Simpsons Hit and Run though, that was Ludo).

Gta3 so far is fucking awesome and the radio music is pretty cool. (The only reason to get the steam versions is to load up your own music)

Ah, fuck me. Fallen Order has been great so far but I was wondering if any of the "major" music from the movies got in.

Just got to the point where yes indeed it does. My exceptional heart. :(

BOTW is basically Wind Waker for the Switch. You wander around and do your own thing and there're spots in a big world where story things happen. If you liked the feel of Wind Waker, BOTW will be right up your alley.

I bought two steam controllers when they went on sale a while ago, and I haven't even gotten either one of them out the box yet, I would assume that the steam forums have some sub-forum or another that will help with getting one set up and configured, but I was curious if anyone on here has any additional advice for how to use these things? My only real experience with console controllers for the PC prior to this was using the Xbox 360 controller.

It seems like most of the guides and such are on reddit. https://old.reddit.com/r/SteamController/wiki/index
I mostly use mine for racing games so i haven't dived too deep into the configuration options beyond deadzone tweaking.

I'm a big Zelda fan, but BOTW - especially with the crafting and weapon degradation - feels like Nintendo was trying too hard to turn it into Skyrim.

Having to craft weapons and repair broken down shields was one of the things that really hampered Skyward Sword (moar like SKYRIM SWORD, amirite?), next to the fucking Stamina Meter and Fi's annoying ability to state the obvious.(THE KEY TO THIS DOOR IS IN THE DUNGEON! I AM BEEPING TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER BEEPING CAUSED BY YOUR LOW HEALTH!)

So why fucking bring it back?

I can understand what they are doing or what they were going for, weapon degradation sucks but it created a loop/trip of sorts where you headed out and then started to circle back when starting to run dry of stuff and you only had sticks and stones, four hearts and the enemies were tougher in that area.
The loops/trips was a way for the player to push the frontier and to me it created a sense of adventure similar to the playing the first Zelda for the first time. "Fuck fuck fuck what are these spider robots I'm not supposed to be here!" was a great and slightly terrifying moment. It builds to feeling more confident and secure, you become braver. When you later see a spider robot there's no panic because that spider robot is going to get fucked up.

To me the game is a process of becoming a frontiersman where after a while you can survive indefinitely out in the wilderness.

The climbing in BoTW is also what I had expected from AssCreed when they started teasing the first game, but the climbing in that and the subsequent games was just holding the stick and running upwards. In BoTW there's those great moments where you pause on a wall and try to figure out the route that won't completely deplete your stamina and drop you to the ground. Climbing the overhang is the much shorter route but it burns stamina like crazy, a risky bet, maybe you have enough to climb around it, hm...

Got a deal on >Observer so I've been playing that. I really love the atmosphere, especially the fact that your character is just as fucked-up as everyone else. Constantly taking pills to ensure your augmentations don't desynch and cause wild hallucinations and whatnot. Rutger Hauer of Blade Runner fame voices the protag.

If it was just like the early game, wandering around in an unsettling and depressing cyberpunk environment, it'd be great. The hide/chase sequences suck complete ass though.

It is..a good 8, really there are two major things holding it back from being the greatest zelda game ever.

1. The Dungeons..were not long enough and there were not nearly enough of them.
2. You really needed a "baseline" weapon that never broke. If you play it look up how to get the master sword and..get it ASAP, having a weapon that never breaks (it goes inactive for a few minutes) makes things less..."Oh Lord I am out of weapons because I ran into a meat sack enemy and I am basically screwed for the next half hour."

Wind Waker's a alright comparison, but all the old 3D Zelda's are all way more linear than BOTW. As cliche as the Zelda 1 comparison is it's the most accurate, while there's extra shit that can be done brings it a bit more in line with the older 3D Zelda's ultimately it's still far closer to Zelda 1 with how little restrictions it has.

Because crafting wasn't a big issue in Skyward Sword, I believe there's only one or two things that you need to upgrade through the entire game, everything else being optional upgrades to items, & potions. I can understand why you wouldn't like crafting, but I can't see how it's a major issue that hampered the game as a whole, at worst if you hate crafting systems it's a minor annoyance. The only real problem related to crafting was that anytime you grabbed something it would always stop to tell you what you just grabbed no matter how common it was. But that's not any sort of issue directly to do with crafting (Hell, Twilight Princess had the same problem with Rupees), it's a problem with the games hand holding nature, Fi being the most notorious example. But even excluding how much the game tells you the same shit over and over again the big problem's that it extends to the design of the world. It feels more like 2D Mario than Zelda considering you almost never can go in more than one way alongside the entire world feeling like a series of corridors. That alongside the motion controls and the story are what makes the game divisive.

That is something that have bothered me for a long time but with time I have come to understand and appreciate it. If you take a break for a couple of weeks or months then return to the game then it is really useful to be reminded what things are and what they do. They should put it on a timer though and they should have done it a long time ago, the rupee infobox for example appears once for every kind of rupee that is picked up every time the game is booted/loaded. Tie it to the system clock, if there's been 4-5 days or more since the game was last played THEN show the infobox explaining the elemental properties of snail butts when used in recipes. If I last played the game 45 minutes ago then I don't need to be informed about those things, I remember it perfectly well.

Eh, that's not a bad idea for things like the crafting items, but at the same time you can read their description by just select any of the items if you really need to know more about them, so kind of pointless if you ask me.

Of some minor interest, Project Lunar for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini has been released!

EDIT: It's been working for me so far. Some games are reported not to work properly with this like TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist (seems to be a sound issue for some as the audio stays silent while the game continues on). It's best to load in a few roms to start with and play-check them as you go. The internal storage on the device gives you a good 130-140 megabytes to work with so you could fit nearly a hundred games on it without needing a flash drive!

2nd EDIT: for pics!

They did a great job making this work like the stock GUI!

3rd Edit: Here's a compatibility list... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...GgX0UEYwaWMhrcbJ_GzzNfTNlA/htmlview?sle=true#
