Encounters With SJWs/Tumblristas Offline or In Unusual Communities

Question:

I am a Star Wars girl, and I haven't really seen many, if any, SJWs in my fandom (But I worry with the release of the new movies this may come)

But I noticed Trekkies seem to have this problem, and I remember the whole controversy over the white actor playing some villain (Doesn't know hardly anything about Star Trek) So for Trekkies do you have an SJW problem in your fandom, and do you think with the release of the new Star Wars movies we may attract them?

Yep anything popular with "cute" thing's in it are a magnet for fangirls, expect the level's of special snowflake and R2D2 genders to skyrocket.

And I think the guy your thinking of was the SJW / Fangirl magnet known as Benedict Cumberbatch, he played Khan a genetically superior human who was supposedly middle eastern.

R2D2 has male programming in canon not that anything will stop him.

I just googled Khan and the dude who played him didn't look Middle Eastern to me.

I think it was mostly down to the name an they just grabbed the first vaguely foreign looking guy they could find in the original series anyhow.

Yeah, Ricardo Montalban was Mexican, even though his Khan Noonien Singh was Sikh. He did have dark skin though, which Benedict Cumberbatch does not have because he is white as a lily.

I don't recall if any Sikh men auditioned for the role, but back in the 60's when he first appeared on Star Trek as Khan, it was a radical idea to portray a genius superhuman as a non-white dude, particularly a North Indian dude. It's a bit more understandable that a Mexican actor (one who had plenty of work before his role as Khan) would end up in a role for a race that he was not in the 60's. In 2013 though it felt like a step backwards casting a white Brit as Khan, which is why Tumblr's jimmies got so rustled.

Star Trek took a lot of strides in terms of representation and diversity on television. The J.J. Abrams films never really seemed to get what made Star Trek so special as opposed to just space adventures. It's pretty obvious Abrams isn't really a Star Trek fan.

I dunno. I kind of side with them on this, mostly just because it's Star Trek and Star Trek has had a tradition of having diverse characters and diverse actors to play them.

Also I am getting fucking sick of Benedict Cumberbatch.

The original show was ground breaking in terms of what it did at that time, gota love it for that.

I can't think of any one who could play him who fit's the back story to be honest but I am sure there is a bunch of people who could have done the roll.

I think he can play a very good nutter but he is over used in that kind of roll, but I can see why some studios love him as with the number fan girls they will recover the cost. But he is a prity wooden actor at times.
But good luck to him, he is making money from something he enjoys doing I just wish the fan girl's would shut up.

I admit that I don't know any Indian actors off the top of my head that could have played Khan, but I'm sure there was somebody that could. India's got (I think) the largest film industry in the world, bigger than Hollywood, even. I don't doubt there could be an English speaking Indian actor who could pull off Khan, but none of them would have the name recognition of Cumberbatch. And if there's anything I've learned about Hollywood, it's that they don't like to take gambles very much.

Though, to be honest, I feel like a rebooted Star Trek with Khan was a mistake. It's really hard to top Montalban's performance in Wrath of Khan. It was such a good goddamned performance, holy shit.

He's got a pretty nice voice, but being exposed to him through Tumblr has pretty much killed off any interest I might have had in him.

Oh indeed I am no Bollywood film fan but they put out a staggering amount of films.

An you're right I wish when they rebooted the franchise they didn't go back to the TOS era I would have liked to see a version of the franchise set way into the future, just to see what a good writing team could do with the universe.

I liked the new films but as I said they should not have returned to well worn ground.

SJW shit from my university:

-The queer resource center here shutting down a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show because it's apparently transphobic because it uses the word "transvestite". It's worth nothing that it seems like only one or two people in the group were wanting to do this and pretty much everyone else (including other transgender people) was saying it was a stupid overreaction, but because of muh privileges I guess they prevailed.
-A girl saying we shouldn't watch Forrest Gump because she read an article on Tumblr about it being racist.
-A girl getting mad at her class showing Akira Kurosawa's Rashômon because it was rape culture, then getting angry when her teacher or students didn't know what that term meant.
-The same girl, who is pale white as fuck, posting a video about how "HAVING AN ASIAN FETISH IS RACIST!!!!" Someone said in response that if you are fetishizing someone based on stereotypes it is indeed racist but that we can't control what we're physically attracted to. She replied with: "No. True attraction has to come from physical chemistry which can only be attained in real life!" So... I guess that's why people don't find porn arousing. Good to know.
-She also listens to nothing but K-Pop but thinks that phrase is racist because "it reduces their identity to a mere letter" and "doesn't respect them as artists."
-There's particularly one guy who is the archetypal Dobson-style beta suck up white male SJW. He has a pedo-stache and bad-looking long curly hair and wears fedora-tier pinstripe suits every day. I heard him once saying that the hatred over Twilight was ridiculous because "After all, abusive relationships are more common than ordinary ones in media representation. So of course men would object when it's a franchise that makes women happy."
-The most hilarious thing with him happened when I was explaining to two other girls what "Trap Rap" meant. I said "Well, do you know what a 'trap' is? It's a slang term for a place where people sell and exchange drugs." This fucker jolts into our conversation and says "IT'S ALSO A SLUR FOR TRANS WOMEN, SO YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL USING THAT!!!"

I really think this zealousness about identity politics has reached too far. For example, right now there's a big movement here for the classes in here to have "LESS DEAD WHITE MALE AUTHORS!!!" I understand what they're getting at, but I think you have to realize that in the West a lot of our intellectual tradition is rooted in white males due to the unfortunate history of marginalization. But you will get NOWHERE if you can't engage with ideas no matter who produced them. Otherwise, you're just picking and choosing what you want to believe based on how well it conveniences you, and that's the exact opposite of what a university should extol. Less dead white male authors is fine, but please let the ideas take precedence over everything else.

It just irks me because it seems like the only way these types enjoy their media/art/intellectual theories etc. is how closely it reflects their political ideology, which is so utterly alien to me. It just feels like activists have gone from emphasizing how we're all the same to emphasizing that we're different and can't possibly understand each other, which just seems to antithetical to all their stated goals. It must be why "POC" is coming back after "colored" was put to rest as inoffensive, so we can divide the world into very simplistic "white" and "non-white" groups again. I dunno, it weirds me out.

Did not expect SJWs to be in the Outlast or Amnesia: The Dark Descent community. They are rabid in both and it is wonderful if you're looking for reasons to bash skulls in with crowbars. I don't even know how they played Outlast god damn it I thought the penises would have kept them away. But no somehow we have trans Waylon and "MRA" Eddie. Still fondly remember when someone went into the tags for Amnesia and started whinging because we didn't consider the idea that Alexander may be a sentient piece of coral. Or that time he was a "poc" and we were erasing his identity because I guess aliens now follow human skin color standards?

You'd honestly think that SJWs would steer clear of survival horror games because of MUH TRIGGERS.

I was thinking more of the latest films to be honest.

Yeah, I meant to specify he was originally played by Monatalban; apologies.

I've actually been watching a lot of Star Trek since Nimoy passed, and it's amazing to realize how unwelcome the typical SJW attitude would be in Roddenberry's future. His vision was of a humanity that had moved past petty differences of race, religion, and culture, whereas current SJWs would be telling Spock to check his green privilege or some bullshit. Kinda sad, really.

Their reactions come across as closer to Bones the space racist more than anybody else.

I always liked that about the show, that Kirk, Spock and McCoy could represent the Ego, Superego and Id. Spock is objective and logical, Bones is all emotional gut reactions and feelings, and Kirk usually thinks of a novel or different approach and meets them somewhere in the middle while taking both of their arguments into consideration. Kirk usually ends up doing the right thing.

Gosh, I could derail this thread talking about Star Trek. But yeah. It's interesting that a lot of SJWs will celebrate Star Trek's diversity and completely miss some of the more subtle aesops. For a group of people who insist on being critical of media so much they're not very good at analyzing something critically.

From reading these posts it seems alot of SJW hang around colleges and getting degrees in the long run that wont amount to shit. Unless your really good at playing a victim and really lucky like a Wu or a Quinn, it seems following that hardcore ideology just gets you stuck with a useless degree, a fuckton of student debt, and zero people skills.

Thats why I dont see the SJW "movement" lasting long. People will eventually realize this shit leads nowhere, alot like the hippy movement in the 70s. It's fun to play the edgy outsider rebel fighting against the system, until real life and adult responsibilities slap you in the face

Honestly, SJW-ism just changes forms, and is just as ridiculous each time. Even in the early days of feminism were crazies who believed heterosexuality was brainwashing by the patriarchy. Though the crazies are more prevalent now than back then.

It'll die down and re-emerge on another site with a new brand of crazy. All I hope is there will be a sub-forum for them too.

I haven't encountered any extremist politically correct types IRL as far as I know. Yet.

One tumblr site said that you'd be "called out" if you do cultural appropriation, and that if you try to defend free speech there, you're in the wrong, regardless of whether or not you really are (not in those exact words, of course). But I have yet to see that in public.
