Inactive Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka - Deadbeat (emphasis on "Dead") founder of Something Awful, forced out of his own community, on his second divorce, stuck his dick in crazy, "Birth Giver"

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
He is outright lying about what he pays for computing costs, and if he isn't, he is hiring someone to take care of everything and doing what amounts to 2 hours a month of work at $2000/mo flat.

Dude is a junkie, of course he is. Whatever to pay for his lifestyle of pills.

I do believe when people claim the forums server solution is complete shit, though. Dollars to doughnuts the underlying current solution is something like a virtual Windows server running Virtualbox running NT4 running whatever piece of shit IIS is needed to serve the forums onto a more modern frontend that doesn't just keel over and die when someone pokes at it. And archives is the same, but another beefy virtual to double the cost. And a lot of the problems come from the fact that since the original solution doesn't scale at all, there are a dozen Virtualbox machines running in different ports listening to frontend requests, they crash on the reg and have to be rebooted by hand.

But you know what the funniest thing here is? The official reason for not doing the migration into something that is not completely nuts is Ambien wishing to preserve the archives. Except the junkie in charge just wiped his most famous subforum with zero thought about preservation.

I'll take "what are overheads for $1,000, Alex".

Notice that he's also left the revenue SA brings in out of that little fiction. Even if it barely breaks even each month, the costs aren't coming out of the Patreon money.
I'm not sure most people know, but the higher tax rate on wealthier incomes isn't taxed on the entire income, it is taxed only on income that surpasses the bracket. So if the lowest tax bracket is say, 10% of your income for those earning less than 20K a year, and you earn 30 K a year, the first 20K of your money will only be taxed at 10%, and the remaining 10K will be taxed at the next higher rate. It is ridiculous for him to say half his income is being taken by taxes when he isn't even in the highest bracket. I haven't been able to find any information about why patreon is different than other sources of income, probably because it isn't. Its like an independent contractor, you have to set aside tax money for the end of the year because it isn't withheld, but it isn't 50% of it, jfc.

What drugs is this idiot on. SA is a tiny website by modern standards.

I would assume that if he has multiple types of income, then he would also be able to deduct the legitimate operating expenses of SA from his total tax burden, too - further reducing the amount of tax he actually pays. That's how it works here.

There goes another 2003 account. Someone who has been there 17 fucking years burned an account just to tell this piece of absolute garbage to go fuck himself. Richard doesn't think there's anything wrong with what he's doing though.

Go ahead keep burning down your only source of income you stupid fucking moron.
Lowtax showing his business acumen here man, all sensible business owners and brand managers know one of the healthiest moves you can make for your business is telling your most loyal, longest-served customers to fuck off and not come back.

Based on userbase or lines of poor code?

Re: taxes, keep in mind that Something Awful, LLC is a different tax entity than Rich Kyanka is. It's very much possible Lowtax runs Patreon as his personal project. Which, I admit, would be a hilarious scam since a large part of his Patreon success is his promise to keep forum servers up and running (but only until pitybux stop rolling in). You didn't think he would run an actual business, did you? Silly rabbit.

I think the funniest part is his sense of entitlement at getting free money for doing literally nothing. What a piece of shit.

He's honestly treating his pateron like his personal, hard-earned salary and you can tell how wronged he feels that he's not getting "his" 14k a month anymore.

I wonder if the panic attacks at the prospect of having to get an entry-level retail job or fast food are setting in. He can't code, he can't design websites, he can't manage people, he can't do anything. He has absolutely none of the skillset you'd expect a 40-some working professional to have developed by now. Because he isn't a professional anything but a professional failure.

He wouldn't last five seconds at an entry level job. If he loses more money, then he's screwed.

The forums are almost entirely text, even posted images were hosted offsite for the majority of the years SA has been around. How much could it possibly cost to host that?‽?

Asking a 20-year professional computer toucher that may trigger PTSD. Kindly add trigger warnings.

It really depends on how poorly the solution is done. I have seen some real bad shit done in production environments and I have not even worked for bank mainframes. In this case it is almost certain to be caused by the need to run virtual servers inside virtual servers inside..., nested until you lose sanity. I also bet a large part of the teetering software stack crashes regularly and there is no reasonable watchdog system to automatically restart anything. This shows up regularly in search indexing which gets stuck and crashes the entire pile of shit. You can not even buy a solution for something like that because no one in their right mind is going to support such an abomination. The only real fix is a migration and, well.

Wait, so fyad and any archives of it are just completely wiped out now? None of it's backed up anywhere?
The thing that makes it funnier to me is back in the days when he could've sold the site for megamoney, he was all about the goon ecred, not selling out and preserving SA against becoming swallowed by corporate homogenization
But nowadays he flushes the one thing that still makes he and SA most relevant, and would have been considered it's longest lasting legacy,, into a blackhole just to sell out to a niche subgenre of extremely abusive and non-passing trannies

edit : he hasn't streamed in awhile, after doing a decent amount in a short period of time. Was he streaming to keep Bogan happy? The tragedy of not only losing a girlfriend, but also your biggest fan😥

Hahahahahahaha

I'm told LowT can fix the whole thing for like 10 grando, but he's really looking for someone to do it for free first, because he can't fathom how someone might find giving him something for not-free objectionable. In the meantime, thanks for donating all that money for forums upgrades guys, gonna go ahead and deposit it into my anime and pill fund.

What gets me is that it really is free money. Asking for a dollar amount that covers the cost of running the forum completely makes sense. Let's even pretend it really does cost $2000 to host a dead 1.0 forum. Everything beyond that is essentially expecting a salary for running things, which I would also understand, but he doesn't run the forum. He has frequently admitted to spending near zero time or energy on it. I don't get how he can feel so entitled to other people's money, or so ungrateful for the fact that the free ride lasted as long as it did. If he wanted it to be his job, he should have treated it like a job.

LowT is sitting there, stewing in feelings of rage and anger, because the internet began to question why, exactly, he deserves all this money for doing literally nothing.

Is he not the man who put his wife and toddler in a homeless shelter? Is he not the one who slew his bitch whore wife's attempt at putting together a tiny, piddling amount of money to try to not be homeless? Is he not the one who held his wife's immigration papers over her head, then publicly bragged about deporting her and ensuring she could never see her own daughter again?

He's done nothing but prove what a good and cool person he is, every step of the way! These KiwiFarmers, dreaded offsite people, they're just nazis! Nazis, I tell you!

It's been said before but it really is addict behavior. You can offer an addict $5 and alternatively offer him to wait an hour and get $20 and he'll always take the $5. Just what it is. Their reward system is broken. That's also why lowtax is such a shrieking baby. Everyone normal in this situation would've just completely ignored the wives gofundme, at best brought it up later on in the divorce battle if it served some strategic benefit. Not Lowtax. He even still thinks this was a victory. Same reason he first closed fyad, now opens fyad. This will go on until SA is done for

That might take a while though as you still have heaps of early 00s posters who still think SA is a huge forum and center of internet culture. Bunch of middle-aged men who think they're still hip and with it while actually having lost all curiosity about what's out there and haven't grown personally to see it. Sounds familiar?

Ran into this on twitter:

At one point in the 2000s, Lowtax suddenly implemented a shitload of ads -- the worst kinds too, including pop-ups, interstitials, and the ones that randomly underline bits of text and open windows when you mouse over them. Amid the tremendous backlash, Lowtax posted a front page article that amounted to "WELL NO ONE EVER THANKED ME FOR NOT RUNNING ANY ADS"

That's similar to his recent foray into merchandise. He quit selling it in the first place (mid 2000s) because it was too much work packaging things up and mailing them out. Too many people wanted to buy things.

Then 10+ years later while crying about needing money and being broke enough people begged him to sell something they could buy he went with the laziest most expensive option which was an automated Amazon store that sold $30 t-shirts. All he had to do was type in a message he wanted on the shirts and upload a image file. That was the extent of the work he wanted to do to make money. He then whined about how "NOBODY IS BUYING THIS MERCH EVERYONE ASKED FOR. I KNEW IT WAS A STUPID IDEA. I ONLY MAKE $4 A SHIRT."

Despite dozens of people telling him how to put in the slightest effort to actually make money selling merchandise he went with the stupidest possible option then failed, got defensive, blamed everyone else and disappeared again to show up six months later and beg for more money.

Anyone can verify that it’s bullshit. All they have to do is search for parcel 201581061 at the Jackson County assessor site. It has his McMansion under his ownership, the vehicle he drives (2018 Nissan Armada), and his address which matches the divorce filings. Rich is a lying sack of shit to pretend he’s renting, unless he’s paying rent for his side pieces.

LMAO even his property values are dropping.
I went ahead and pulled it up for other people browsing the thread. If you run the listed VIN, Carfax says that SUV is about a $40k ride too. Goons are the most gullible bunch of sadsacks to swallow his transparent lies about being destitute and broke when shit like this is so easy to verify.

SA will probably be a memory by the end of 2020. Definitely not much later than that. By the time Lowtax figures out he's fucked and tries to sell it, the brand will be so toxic that no one will want it.
