how many have been given papers saying they're an essential worker yet? I know 3 people.

I personally know 5 people, though sadly I am not essential. But I do have experience and connections in 2 fields where I could probably get back in as a temp worker if my employer stops paying me. At some point I might do it anyway for the freedom of movement.
