Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

South African cities and rural towns are surrounded by informal settlements and squattercamps. Alexandra, featured on the Sky News clip, is 2 blocks away from the hub of Sandton. News from ground level: white/Indian neighbourhoods are self isolating with little or no movement whilst the rest regard the virus as a hoax or "not that serious". The South African Defence Force and police are unable to enforce the lockdown and are non-existent in rural areas.

Will update if the country starts burning.

Edit: Spelling 'cause it's late and I'm an idjit.
inb4 it scours the urban metros and the only survivors are the Zulus and those Dutch farmers

I'm angry; I've had enough of these people!
They're a bunch of Christian-murdering scum that run giant death factories !
What more do you need to know about these people?

But they make the socks you can buy for $15 for a pack of 20.

FIFTEEN. For a pack of TWENTY.

And the profit margins. Dear god, if you could see the profit margins of Dr. Scholl and Gold Toe and the like.... You wouldn't be crying out about human rights abuses if you saw them.
I mean yea, obviously, they're harvesting organs from live prisoners and have killed millions and will kill millions more, and Africa will beg for British Colonialism in another 10 years when the Chinks have moved in en mass and thrown everyone darker than "Pasty yellow" into a death camp, but, aren't cheap consumer goods improving the lives of everyone left behind? That means that clearly, ON THE WHOLE, China is a good thing, right?

Obviously we can all look past the flagrant human rights violations and mass murder in the name of iPhones, cheap socks, and low cost gaming PCs.

Hey so. I have a video of masks being made in I think India.

On a happier note. It seems tonight the government will let us get out for one hour. It starts at 2 and ends at 3.

(For those that don't get it, tonight is the hour change, at 2 it will be 3)

There's video of that. Things are bad, if even the sight of soldiers carrying rifles can't persuade the people to stay in homes. Or they just can't grasp the concept of lockdown. If africans can't understand science of viruses, maybe authorities should just say that withcraft or some black magic happened there. Social distancing is unheard of, obviously.
They'll just rape more White people , dogs, and monkeys to pass off the "juju" like they did with AIDS.

This is a disaster, I was just talking to (yelling at) someone who got a cut on their hand, only a few days after I told them specifically not to get any cuts on their hands, because I know what kind of person they are.

Ring-ring
Dominos!
Hello, could I have one Big Ham & Pineapple please. Extra triple anchovies.
Certainly sir! Be advised, that all pizzas come with the new Chinese Bat Flu Surprise sauce.

Not all states and municipalities have this obesity problem as much as others. Places like Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, NYC have less issues than States like Missippi, Alabama, Wisconsin, Louisiana, some parts of Texas, etc.

And yet most of those obese flyover states you named don’t have the same rate of confirmed cases or hospitalizations that the cities with supposedly thinner people do.

I know it’s hard for some of you who live on the coasts to fathom this, but states like Wisconsin and Nebraska have thousands of cases already too because there is a fair amount of travel between these states for business. One person on my team alone has been to Madison, Omaha, Las Vegas, and Austin within the last month and a half. While the flyover states may be somewhat less exposed than the coasts, it’s not as if there‘s no business travel to increase that exposure. My city has a lot of Chinese students too. There have likely been mild cases in these states soon after the virus first appeared on the coasts.

I’m not arguing that obesity doesn’t make for worse outcomes with the virus, because being obese does make things worse with...well, everything. But let’s not act like the flyover states are so backwards and have such limited resources when we absolutely already have thousands of cases here, likely mostly mild based on the small number of hospitalizations and deaths thus far. Maybe worry about your own shithole cities...

You have to expect this with more people cooking at home, more will be holding vegetables and the like as they cut them and nick themselves. It's natural.

For those of you claiming that Germany is giving a lot of free money to artists, we don't actually know right now how much of their $168 billion package is gonna go to the arts&media:

Germany revealed earlier this week that cultural producers will be able to receive aid from a $168 billion package that will also assist the media industry.

US museums are planning for the long haul:

In order to mitigate the financial strain on the network of museums, Smithsonian secretary Lonnie G. Bunch told the Washington Post on Monday that he is planning for multiple scenarios which include the pandemic ending in the summer, a resurgence of COVID-19 in the fall, and long-term social distancing measures that could last for more than eighteen months.

As for those of you speculating about whether Covid19 patients are young or old, male or female, fat or skinny, here's what this doctor said about his patients: "New patients are NOT SMOKERS, NOT OLD, NOT COMORBID. They are between 30-50 and are very sick."

Here's another: "It's Biblical Hell. They are all ages. Don't delude yourself into thinking only the old will die."

NYC is basically fucked:

This is gonna happen more. A lot of critical services like law enforcement, power, and medical will break down if employees refuse to work out of fear of personal safety.
Earlier in the thread I talked about taking LOA from my retail job because they were being total dicks about safety measures and just being kind of harsh on us (the last straw was when my boss grabbed some bread I was buying on my lunch out of my hands and said we needed it for "the real customers")

Apparently A LOT of employees did the same, or just outright quit, so they offered hazard pay, started letting workers wear PPE, started limiting the amount of customers in the store and hired an actual cleaning crew instead of assigning it to bored high school kids. They also gave us first dibs on buying essentials an hour before the store opens (although we still have purchase limits same as the customers).

I'm honestly shocked they did that, we didn't think it would actually happen. I think they thought they could send out "safety precaution" letters for good PR and then half ass everything, but workers weren't having it and were going to the media to say what was really happening (for example, those "elderly and vulnerable" shopping hours were not being enforced, they just let a bunch of grannies get steamrolled by Karen's and did nothing)

Another thing I think forced their hand is that they were trying to hire new people to replace those who left, and no one was really coming in to apply.

I really can't complain now, I think they're doing about all they can do to keep us safe and keep the store open. I work overnights while the store is closed now and almost have the place to myself.

A reporter was asking Cuomo what Trump meant by saying that they'd "Found ventilators in a storage facility." and Cuomo said that information was "Incorrect and grossly uninformed." After that, he goes on to clarify that the ventilators are in stockpile, because the hospitals don't need them yet. Now... I'm not a fancy wordsmith and all, but what exactly is the difference between a storage and a stockpile?

You know, the easiest answer might be that Cuomo was lying this entire time.

Coronavirus In Minnesota: ‘We’re Watching You’: Racist Note Left On Woodbury Home Of Asian American Couple

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Twin Cities couple Alvin Moua and Vanishia Yang say they are sad and angered by a racist note left on their door this week.

When Moua returned home Wednesday, he noticed a piece of paper stuck to his front door in Woodbury.

“I thought it might have been a notice sign,” Moua said. “As I got closer to it and actually read the note itself, yeah, it was pretty disturbing,”

This was the note plastered on his front door:

(credit: CBS)
“We’re watching you f—— c—– take the chinese virus back to china. We don’t want you hear infecting us with your diseases!!!!!!!!!!”

The note was signed, “Your friendly neighborhood.”

Moua’s emotions were racing.

“Anger. Frustration. A lot of anger,” he said.

After alerting their landlord, he called Woodbury police. The department tells WCCO there are no leads, although detectives are working on it.

“This sort of behavior has no place in our community. We are saddened that a person would be so cruel as to racially blame a neighbor for COVID-19,” police officials said.

That sentiment was echoed online. Yang’s post is drawing hundreds of supportive comments.

“It kind of, I guess, makes me sad, I don’t know, because I would like to feel welcomed here,” Yang said. “It’s hard. You know, it just makes it a little harder to be Asian American.”

Though it’s painful, Moua and Yang think it’s important for all to know about the hurtful things that are happening close to home.

“Please don’t be afraid to share your story. I mean, we need to spread the awareness,” Yang said. “Because, obviously, there are people out there who care.”

Woodbury Mayor Anne Burt apologized to the couple on behalf of the city. She encouraged victims, or anyone aware of these incidents, to call 911.

It's any rodent feces/urine. Handsome young athletic man (just like the Navajo athletes back in '93) during winter break goes on vacation on Shelter Island, L1 . Place was absolutely infested with white footed mice who also harbor the deadly form of pulmonary hantavirus. He dropped dead when he went back to Brown in Providence.
There have been other cases of hantavirus on the East Coast and all involved mice. I'm absolutely freaked out by it and I used to have both mice and rats as pets.

In the last paragraph they're reporting that a supermarket in Sicily was raided by people who refused to pay, so it's like looting is starting to occur. Police are patrolling the streets now.

A healthy 48 year old NYC nursing manager died of the virus recently. See, I am skeptical about the low kill stats now. I wasn't before but I am beginning to wonder. The rate they're dying is rather quick too, usually other flu's kill an elderly person (for example) after a three week battle and they succumb from secondary complications. Covid-19 has people dropping seemingly like flies. I don't know what to say.

I've heard the virus has a measles-like tendency to ''linger'' behind in the air. Not as infectious as Measles but holy fuck, is that scary to think.

So from the various sources we are getting in this thread, the Chinaflu is somewhere between Spanish Flu, and Biblical Hell? Everyone seems to have their own spin on it. Maybe it's the fact the doctors are only getting serious near death cases that changes their perspective. Because if I felt sick now, I'd not go near a hospital. I'd be too worried about waiting with 100 other people that might have the real chinaflu and then get turned away because im not the right diagnosis.

Considering it's a SARS cousin that doesn't seem too far off. SARS killed young, healthy people. I wouldn't write this off anymore. This is very serious. The virus is still mutating don't forget.
