*raises hand*
Excuse me. But what are any of these characters' flaws?
Avar - none
Loden - none
Keeve - "first she must learn to trust in herself as much as she trusts the Force." THAT'S NOT A FLAW
Stellan - none
Vern (where's Ernest?) - "She struggles to fit in" STILL NOT A FLAW
There's no excuse because I know Harry Potter had flaws in all of their characters!
Fuck this, I'm going to show you how to make interesting characters (and I'm a hack).
Note also I'm not going down the ST: Picard route of making them all dark and stupid, either.
Everyone believes Avar is the brightest, most noble example of Jedi-hood. The problem is that it's all based upon a lie. Several of her greatest "victories" were by luck or accident, which has given Avar a deep sense of imposter syndrome. She relentlessly tries to put others first, even to the detriment of her health in an effort to be the lady her legend says she is. The order believes she is the best of the best - Avar is afraid they'll learn she isn't.
Loden is a Twi’lek Jedi Master, and is considered to be one of the best teachers in the Jedi Order - and the most frustrating. His mannerism is very dry, often causing frustration with his students as they try and determine what is a joke, and what is wisdom. He's also very driven, and a bit of a workaholic, looking for the learning experience in every moment. This has driven many away from the old Master and caused him to become a little more eccentric every year.
Keeve is a young firebrand Jedi, with great natural talent... and an affinity for the dark side her instructors find concerning. Impulsive to the point of near suicidal recklessness, she has been sent to study under Loden and Avar in the hopes she doesn't fall to the dark side - nor get herself killed.
Stellan is a Jedi Master who came up through the Order with Avar Kriss. However while her exploits have brought her glory, his has brought him shame as he has utilized underworld contacts in the past to obtain... "unorthodox" solutions. He often conflicts with other Jedi as they consider his efforts unsavory, while he complains about them being puritanical. Behind his back they debate whether he's bringing criminals to the light, or if they're dragging him into the darkness.
Vern is a newly-minted Jedi Knight who was Padawan to Stellan Gios. At sixteen she is one of the youngest Knights in a generation - so young others have questioned the circumstances of her knighthood, including herself. Stellan remains firm though that she earned it during their last mission. A mission that has made Vern question what it means to be a Jedi Knight, and if she really wants to be one.
