Trump's promise to "drain the swamp" and his initial attempt to bring outsiders into his administration really scared the shit out of the Washington bureaucracy. I don't think people understand how massive it's gotten. Washington and its suburbs are becoming more and more affluent as their power expands. There's an expansive class of career government officials and the people whom they exchange reciprocal patronage with (big business, foreign governments, media, etc.) that Trump's populist agenda looked to unseat. They've been looking to destroy him as soon as polls indicated he was the Republican front runner. Another angle is that they hate the common man. They think that the rabble are idiots who should accept a lukewarm liberal orthodoxy.

I'm rambling here but the top brass all have buddies in the ruling class who are the targets of a national populist agenda. I also think that most of them consider themselves above the rubes in flyover country who make up Trump's base.

And another thing about all these career politicians and bureaucrats. they were around when the Patriot act was signed, and all that other legislation that vested more and more power in the hands of the executive, so they know full well what could theoretically happen. Something tells me they were scared shitless when he first took power, and that's where that flurry of "Orange Man Dictator!" and bullshit investigations came from.

And I hate starbucks with a passion. It's not political or boycotting or anything - their coffee really just tastes like ass. Worse than gas station coffee and I can't believe they get people to pay what they do for it. If the hotel is in a metro area I'll walk a few blocks to find something - anything - a caribou coffee, 7-11, Dunkin Donuts, Einstein Brothers Bagels, etc. Anything to not have to drink that shit.

I actually had a job once upon a time where a Starbucks was near the office and EVERYONE would schedule one on one meetings to meet there. I felt like I was in a pod person/zombie movie where I was the only one that wasn't brainwashed. It was crazy. I've seriously had coffee out of a goddamn vending machine for a buck that was better than a straight black coffee from Starbucks.

I know people always get the fucking Lottes and such, but when you have to put that much junk in the coffee just to make it palatable, what's the point? Honestly, I'd rather just eat a dessert. And anyways, I just want my no bullshit black coffee, and if Starbucks, the most well known coffee brand in the fucking world, can't even deliver that, then fuck them. I'll go to 7-11 with a smile on my face, thank you very much.

Vice canada had an article about how Asians in Canada protesting the death of a 13 year old girl at the hands of a Syrian refugee was "white supremacy", but I can no longer find it. (they may of deleted it due to bad optics)

Also, contrary to what Twitter historians think, actual historians use statues all the time to learn about different cultural values and art techniques from different time periods (this is especially true in art history). Statues are a worldwide thing and they meant different things to different people. To say that statues have no value is disingenuous and insulting to those that dedicate their time and effort into making them.

It's not just that. Many monuments were designed in specific ways depending on the era, artist, etc. No two are the same, and restoring any sort of damage -- whether minor or significant -- takes away from the statue's original makeup and composition in an irreparable way. Sure, many of these people did things that were deemed acceptable in their timeonly to later be seen as not as acceptable. All that shows is that people's attitudes and beliefs evolve over time and it's hardly a reason to destroy priceless works of art.

I'm not sure why they're all sperging over that. From what I've heard, some people that eat Asparagus have their urine smell like asparagus within the next 24 hours or so.
