I find the phone theory most plausible because it requires the least of Lucas.
No need for self awareness, or growth. Lucas has not suddenly mastered his antisocial impulses. Rather, he's lost his means of broadcasting them to the cruel world.
He's out there somewhere, spazzing and dreaming of gaping teen buttholes. And he'll return with a new, shitty phone and tremendous energy.

It has to be he lost or broke his phone because he'd still be posting virtue signaling trash on Facebook/Instagram. I don't believe Spokane libraries opened up, so he has no way to get online.

The AZ Target lady is getting Lucas’s attention as well. Her Twitter is fire. I found the garbage flip phone I had before I got my first smart phone. Surprisingly, it can take short videos (and still works after being buried in the kitchen junk drawer for almost 12 years) but I don't think 2 or 3g towers exist anymore so it's probably useless.

2g is almost nonexistent except for some local carriers and T-Mobile in specific areas. 3g is largely slated to be shut down by the end of the year (Verizon) or in 2022 (AT&T, Sprint) or somewhere in between other than i guess T-Mobile or Boost Mobile.
so in theory if you donated your phone to the Cause of the Wern, then it'd work for at least another 4-5 months.
