While certainly rolling prairie is bar-none the best tank terrain, they are very useful in cities in the same way they are anywhere else, to shock the hell out of the enemy initially while allowing the infantry cover and overwhelming fire support to enter and set up.

While tanks are highly vulnerable to attack from above in cities, this risk is highly mitigated in asymetric revolts. Unless antifa gets hold of a whole lot of RPGs and Saggers or whatever (dating myself, I know) this threat is pretty much nil. Molotovs don't cut it against a modern MBT.

Traditionally there have been 2 big problems with tanks in urban warfare:

1) Mobility: Usually the city under attack has been "softened" with massive artillery barrages, which leave unpassable rubble. This is not an issue in a homeland insurrection (though in Portland's case, and Chicago, I might consider it) because of obvious reasons.

2) Tanks are exposed to enemy fire too much while acquiring targets/ advancing because traditionally the turret is set back and you nneed to expose your glacis plate/ driver while advancing to contact. Again, unless the commies have shape-charged rockets this ain't a problem.

Tanks are perfect for setting up roadblocks, etc in the absence of anti-tank fire. As well as mobile command posts for mech inf/ infantry combined arms teams to do the dirty work of house2house cleanup., and the coax alone is a big deal for fire suport to wipe out snipers'nests. The commies will only ever have small arms and IEDs to throw at you, and it's gonna take a fair while until these faggots develop IED building capacity that is a real threat to MBTs. Remember, these aren't the taliban, and there ain't massive dumpps of Soviet artillery shells around to convert to tank killers.
