Well this dickhead was wrong about fucking everything early in the pandemic which means that we should definitely listen to his prognostications now.

This cunt. This specky-foureyed, arrogant, fear-mongering cunt.

Everything he's ever predicted has been off by a degree that should have rendered him unemployable.

Imperial College epidemiologist Neil] Ferguson was behind the disputed research that sparked the mass culling of eleven million sheep and cattle during the 2001 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. He also predicted that up to 150,000 people could die. There were fewer than 200 deaths. . . .

In 2002, Ferguson predicted that up to 50,000 people would likely die from exposure to BSE (mad cow disease) in beef. In the U.K., there were only 177 deaths from BSE.

In 2005, Ferguson predicted that up to 150 million people could be killed from bird flu. In the end, only 282 people died worldwide from the disease between 2003 and 2009.

In 2009, a government estimate, based on Ferguson’s advice, said a “reasonable worst-case scenario” was that the swine flu would lead to 65,000 British deaths. In the end, swine flu killed 457 people in the U.K.

Last March, Ferguson admitted that his Imperial College model of the COVID-19 disease was based on undocumented, 13-year-old computer code that was intended to be used for a feared influenza pandemic, rather than a coronavirus. Ferguson declined to release his original code so other scientists could check his results. He only released a heavily revised set of code last week, after a six-week delay.

So the real scandal is: Why did anyone ever listen to this guy?

I'm am so tired of this gaslighting abuser logic bullshit.
"Measures may not be enough to prevent new clampdown"

Fuck off sir, and fuck off to all the statist bootlickers who buy this shit.
Lockdowns/restrictions/mandates/"clampdowns" happen because assholes in power CHOOSE to make them happen, and for no other reason. They aren't some natural event that automatically occurs with a certain number of cases, they are a willful action perpetrated by conscious people and the fault of no others except those who perpetrate them.

I'm positive that a worse tax season than usual will give "experts" and governors some pause over their "righteous" cause.

Once they realize that their actions could come back to bite them in the ass, I think there'll be more calls to reopen shit.
Today, I read an e-mail that suggested that the pandemic may cause issues with people meeting the upcoming tax deadlines of 15-Sep (Corporations & Partnerships) and 15-Oct (Individuals). I'm not sure what if anything will happen if this is true. As it is, there are plenty of people that put their returns off to the last second, but I have no idea how much of it is due to COVID and how much is a matter of procrastination.

Many states, especially those run by Democratic governors, still seem to think they can simply ask for free money to plug their budget gaps. Unfortunately, tax revenue -- namely withholding and social security taxes -- at the Federal level is also down, so I have no idea where they expect this money to come from. The worst part, however, is that it seems like these same governors aren't even planning for a scenario where they get zero federal assistance; they simply assume they'll get whatever they ask for.

This is so Big Pharma can sell people $3,100 courses of Remdesivir and give them kidney failure, instead of people buying a $13 bottle of Vitamin D caplets from their grocery store.
Not only that, but multivitamins that have both Vitamin D and Zinc can be had for around the same price of $13 give or take.

Big Pharma is deeply entrenched in the US, unfortunately. Within the past 5 years or so, I once knew someone who came from another country to do graduate studies in the states. He was amazed that medicine/prescription drugs are usually the first thing people want when they're sick with something simple enough that non-prescription treatments/remedies are equally effective. Nevertheless, there's been a small degree of pushback. Pharmacy Reps have gotten so pushy that my doctor finally put a sign on his door stating he's simply too busy to meet with any or all of them that want his time. TFW Pharmacy Reps use the same tactics as shady door to door salespeople.

Reminds me that at work, they actually put masks on the statues inside the lobby areas. God forbid anybody sees even a stone statue without a mask on. Then there's the billboards that say shit like "Having a good time? Well, don't forget Covid wants to party, too. SOCIAL DISTANCE!"
I've seen online ads imploring people to wear masks in public so they don't bring home "Rona". Asking people to take COVID seriously by calling it a cutesy name seems contradictory in some way.

Do you guys think we'll ever get any real information about how effective the cloth masks actually are?
The misinformation is really not helping.
There's so much conflicting information and misinformation floating around, I don't think the average person has any clue what is or isn't effective any more. After nearly six months, normies simply want to know when we'll finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and what reasonable steps they can do to help make that happen. Unfortunately, those in charge refuse to give straight answers or even a best educated guess when asked this very question. *sigh*

I am neither pro or anti mask, if a business i like to frequent or my work demand I wear it I do.
I feel similarly. Oddly, it seemed like more people were ok with wearing masks before it became required here. Empirically, it seems fewer people are wearing masks after they became required. It's especially concerning when people in the vulnerable groups aren't wearing masks or shields when they're the ones that probably should be wearing them.

NGL, I used to get sick all the time, and now I get the flu vaccine and never get sick. I think there is some validity to it, but people who don't get flu shots shouldn't be considered anti-vaxxers.
There's plenty of reasons to decline optional vaccines that don't make one an anti-vaxxer. That said, I'm willing to bet that if people were somehow forced to choose between flu shots and a COVID shot, the flu shot would be far more popular simply because there's no way any COVID vaccine coming out this year will have gone through the rigorous testing a new vaccine needs to have done before being release to the general public.

So those in football, soccer and volleyball -- sports that just returned this week -- will need to wear face coverings at all times. Cross country, golf and tennis can go without masks, if they can stay apart. Swimmers are the only exception to any coverings."
I'm almost wondering if Whitmer is being passive-aggressive with her Executive Orders regarding sports. She was eager to discourage fall sports at first. Now, she's finally relented and allowed the full complement of fall sports, but's now requiring players to wear masks even when it doesn't make sense or is unfeasible. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd say this is her way of saying, "OK, you can have your sports, but I'm going to make it as inconvenient as possible for you."

To offer something more substantial, Utah is one of the states that's started high school football. After the first four weeks there, 212 games had been successfully played with only 3 games cancelled due to COVID (as far as I've been able to confirm). That's just a 1.4% cancellation rate. From what I've seen on social media, Utah's football players aren't wearing masks either. Unfortunately, Michigan's Governor Whitmer hasn't adequately explained her rationale behind requiring masks for the Michigan's football players; any questions about this or what scientific data she's been using are dismissed with non-answers or the claim that such questions are politicizing the issue.

Also, Whitmer's use of an old emergency powers law seems to mirror Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3. in those Chancellor Palpatine manages to receive emergency powers that he promises to relinquish ASAP. He never does and ultimately seizes full power for himself as Emperor. At one point he even says, "I am the Senate!" It feels like Whitmer is doing the same thing in invoking an emergency power law that allows her to extend the emergency indefinitely while treating the state legislature like it doesn't exist. No elected official, regardless of party affiliation, should be able to have indefinite unchecked power.

Whitmer's overall popularity and the popularity of her coronavirus response are both higher in the Detroit metro area than they are in the rest of the state, according to the article.
I'd love to know if these pools focused on Democratic and Democratic-leaning independent voters. Today's polls are conducted in a way that they have skewed samples and what seems to be inherent confirmation bias. TL;DR - Don't put too much trust in these polls.

I mean, yeah there is a difference between. "Hey can you wear this mask" or a business saying "If you want to come in here you need a mask" and Joe Biden going on the front lawn of the white house and saying "YOU MUST WEAR A MASK SLAVE."

If The Feds or the State government demand I do it, I will be more than happy to give them the finger and flaunt that rule at every point I can..because that is not their fucking job damn job.

The final line he uses during his ultimate rise to power sticks out to me in particular and has been playing constantly in my head throughout this shitshow.

"The Republic shall be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society!"

How does this guy have the gall to continue to participate in public discourse?

And he continues to be seen and painted as credible..... Pseudoscientist prick who doesn't believe his own shitty models.

The mask talisman thing is so weird. It's like their one way of trying to have control over a bad situation.

I had lunch (outdoors, in LA) with my nurse's-wife-friend and she went off on a rant about how some lady waiting in line (outside) to get a table, wasn't wearing a mask over her nose, and had sneezed. I'm like, "The skies in CA look like the apocalypse, and everyone is breathing falling ash, and you and me are already breaking local orders just by hanging out, and we don't have our masks on and neither does anybody who has already been served. Who cares about some random lady? Let her live her life."

And she legit said, "I hope that lady gets horribly sick and then dies. My husband had 14 deaths in his unit this week and my neighbor just died of Covid." And then she turned around and told me she's planning to give out candy for trick-or-treat and she just booked tickets for a movie theater that has re-opened outside the county line, and had gotten an asthetician to give her an underground eyebrow wax. She's the nicest, most forgiving kid, normally so wishing somebody else dead is way out of character for her and tells me something's off. People are breaking and their logic is falling apart and that's scary.

Meanwhile, the local Megachurch has been banned from meeting indoors again. Witnesses report that last week's service completely maxed out the building with few masks and much hugging and handshakes.

And the local putt-putt place just went out of business. Our ice rink is also gone. But hey, I was finally allowed to get a haircut and the temperature has dropped under 100!

We really live in a world now where punishment in a court of law is weighed by handshakes and hugs.

Fuck this gay-ass earth.

I just assume the whole "asymptomatic" thing is down to the tests having such a high false-positive rate.

Either that or (conspiracy hat on) COVID-19 isn't as new and novel as they make out and it's been circulating for most of 2019 or even earlier.

Funny you mention that, because way earlier on in the thread when this thing kicked off; The aspect of the China Com cough, being around a lot longer than it was being reported seems fairly accurate. The strange thing was how just in my personal life, pretty much beginning last November, quite a few people I knew just suddenly dropped dead from some sot of an illness that was going around. A couple of them traveled, a couple of them where local, but it was surreal that the pandemic was called in January. Of course this is when normal flu season begins, but the amount of people at once was troubling.
In that same time span from then to now, I've had four people die from cancer, two die from heart disease, and another from drowning. People die every day, viruses circulate around constantly. The asymptomatic spread rate some of us where talking here back in April was measured to be anywhere between 15-17 the scalar magnitude of what is being recorded. All of the initial spookiness from January and February was essentially debunked by beginning of April. I might be making a bit of a reach, but a part of me thinks that it's been the US since at least last August. They just didn't have a test for it, or where testing for it properly until a month into lock-downs.

Idk, it sort of feels like people reeeeeeally don't want to think about the possibility that they've been a useful idiot in some politicians' power trip. Afterall, everybody likes to believe they're a smart, well-informed individual.

This is the guy who had everyone locked up in their homes, not allowed to go out unless it was for the bare essentials, only to then get caught breaking the lockdown protocols he advised to bonk his mistress. Got him binned off a panel and shattered his credibility. He and Fauci with his "this will last till the end of 2021" can go get necked.
The cherry on top is that he was ill with Covid while breaking lockdown to see his mistress, and she had a family of her own, with children.
