Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Speaking of that image, what's up with everything besides Kamp Koral and Rugrats? I recognize Big Nate between Phil and Lil, but I can't quite remember if there was news of a cartoon adaptation. I think there may have been, but that still took me by surprise. (Also lol at the two random black kids conspicuously placed front-and-center. They look like characters from a Nick Jr. show, so it'll probably get a white-guilt-ridden journalist or two to talk about it and then immediately fall off the radar for anyone who's not a toddler, a Karen with toddlers, or a person with the mind of a toddler.)
That's not the one that was canceled because it was ripping off something else?

Most CG shit is completely uncanny valley shit, not charming at all.
Yeah kinda. No disrespect to most artists since it's clearly a lot of work, but the death knell for any animated show reboot is when it's done in CGI instead of hand drawn or digital animation. The biggest one that comes to mind is Xiaolin Chronicles (the "sequel" to Xiaolin Showdown) where the battle parts of the show were created in CGI for some...reason.

I guess most Nickelodeon cartoons are gonna be CGI from now on.

You know, Klasky-Csupo’s lumpy, Eastern European artstyle has always been polarizing. While some have decried it as ugly and unappealing, some have defended it as refreshingly different and really unlike anything seen on TV. Looking at Tommy’s dead, CGI eyes, I can say I fully appreciate KC’s art direction now.

Meanwhile Kamp Koral being in CG only highlights what a blatant cash grab it is.

Klasky and Csupo are involved in this.

Really, all the Eastern European guys who contributed to that style have all largely gone back to Russia.

Paul Germain has apparently reconciled with Klasky and Csupo, though, and is also involved, so I can only wonder what he'll bring to this.

EDIT: What he is apparently bringing is a return to the basics. I heard from somebody that the reboot will not have Dil or Kimi - it's back to the original six babies.

The original six, huh. Hmm. Guess it's not all bad.

Ehhhhh. I suppose Chuckie and Susie don't look too bad. But Tommy and the twins are just creepy with their toothless grins and doll eyes. I know it's just a promo image so we might get some better official art in due time. Where's Angelica? I can understand not putting Dil or Kimi into this image but Angelica was a big part of the show. I also wonder when this will take place. They seem to be wearing their original outfits. Having a character use a payphone would probably confuse a younger audience. Still, I wish they had just gone the Animaniacs route and have it be 2D animation.

I'm bored and nostalgic.

Anyone here want to share their favorite spooky-themed cartoons?

Coraline is one that instantly comes to mind, even works as a movie to watch off seasosns as well. Also looks like it's getting a bit of a revival as I see youtubers making more videos on it.
I would've love to see the original version that included TMBG in the film.

For some reason, I always think back to Scary Godmother. The CG is incredibly dated even for its original release but I grew up on CN (how much is something that would wind up depressing considering) and that movie along with Halloween episodes was always on. I don't know why exactly that's the main thing I remember, but I do enjoy the memories.

Saw these on tumblr, sirartwork is pretty funny.

One particular short that stuck in me when I was a kid. It involved some humanoid buzzard stealing the eyes of a black girl and feeding them to its hatchlings. The last shot is of the girl still alive, but with empty eye sockets while touching around to see just where she is, and it appears suddenly as a jump scare. Creppy as fuck. Can't remember the name, though.

Which made me laugh harder besides the "ha ha so true" nature of the illustration was the nothing but Cinco de Mayo calendar, "amixgos" or the creator being a rodentlike purplehair guy. The pathetic attempts at "authentico" ethnic-flavored cartoon shows really do have the thinnest veneer of cultural trappings applied to their generic nonsense - or the creators' original idea actually had decent art and character designs but was put through the Beanmouth Transformation Machine by "the Network" to make it bland and acceptable for the execs.

Reminder that the last authentic Latino-lead animation was in 2007 (El Tigre by Jorge Gutierrez) and lasted a single season.
