The issue is that retards like the Trash Taste hosts are just gonna milk it until it runs out and then leave the dusky husk behind. They aren't in it for the hobby, just to milk it for clout. Just like their viewers now won't actually be into Vtubers as a hobby, they're just in it for the fad and because their greasy-haired podcast overlords told them it was cool.
The worst thing is mooks on social telling me to "just deal with it"
and one guy even said "lol the JP girls have done much worse for the brand/community in the past so how is this a big deal??"
literally what?
I won't comment on whether the hosts are into it as a hobby or not, however from my limited exposure to Gigguk and his fanbase, the impression I've gotten is that his content is made to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Understandable, since man's gotta make a living and that's pretty much the only way to do it nowadays as a commentary channel on YouTube, but when your videos are all generically titled "20XX Anime in a Nutshell" or "Anime in X minutes", it follows that you'll tend to attract a low-attention span audience that enjoys being spoonfed and is quick to judge.
Unfortunately, I think there was already a big overlap between that audience and Hololive's from well before this collaboration, but if you're able to filter out the garbage that these types spew, you'll hopefully find that many of them will soon lose their interest and move on to the next big thing.
On a separate note: anyone have thoughts on this clip of one of the TrashTaste co-hosts talking about Hololive and idol culture?
For someone whose job is to talk lots the guy sure sucks at argumentation. I agree with his initial point that idol fans are sometimes overzealous and this applies to Hololive as well, but then his reasoning for why fans shouldn't care about their chuubas collabing with "normal streamers" is that the VAs are "like, individuals who have like, opinions and feelings and might want to collaborate out of their own benefit (?) and out of their own want to collaborate and make something creative"? No shit, sherlock. Calli's VA should be free to collab with normal streamers to her heart's content. But I'm curious as to how he came to the conclusion that a viewer who disapproves of a character doing something is somehow not respecting the "needs and wants [of the content creator as a] normal human being".
It just seems like such smooth-brained logic. In a roundabout way it reminds me of the Adam Kovic situation over at the FunHaus YouTube channel:
popular funny man makes funny gaming videos, but years later a bunch of pictures are released showing him with various objects up his butt at work, among other saucy revelations. Given the context, I think it's fair to say that there's marked difference between doing things you personally enjoy as you, the person, versus doing things you personally enjoy as your character. And I fail to see how this assertion invalidates in any way the content creator's needs and wants. I mean, isn't that the whole point of a chuuba's avatar in the first place? So that they can do what the VA can't?
