See, I think there's an element of truth to this but not necessarily the type you're trying to peddle.

I definitely think some republicans, and more independents, voted for Biden (or abstained from voting Trump) but less because they're voting 'against trump' and more that they're voting for 'returning to normality'.

Trump's rhetoric is a lot looser and a little firier than America has had in a president for some time, but his actions have actually been pretty fucking milquetoast. The media (and of course the dem's, but it's to be expected to a certain degree from the opposition party) has been BLASTING anything and everything Trump has said or done (and that '''anonymous sources'''' have claimed he's said and done) as the worst thing ever (or at least since the last news cycle last week when trump last did a thing). Everything has become political, partisan, and most importantly volatile. Social media is a hellscape. 75% of corporations and celebrities give you their thoughts on political issues, and generally in a fairly insulting manner. Sport and other leisure ventures have been in part hijacked. To top it off Coronavirus has destroyed what remained of normality. A lot of people just want shit to go back to what it used to be like, and they either don't realise that Trump is fairly run of the mill and thus not the actual problem OR they simply don't care and just think and hope that if they help vote him out then everything will go back to normal anyway. Which it won't, so more fool them.

tl;dr when the world goes mad and you can no longer escape from the volatile politicisation of everything everywhere, some people are just going to take what they see as the easy way out in the hope that the madness goes back in the box and they can go back to grilling in peace.

Personally, I don't like Donald Trump. I don't hate him, but I don't think he is some kind of superhero or super-villain with incredible charisma. My opinion about him did not change from the day he started to be a serious contender in presidential elections back then in 2016. He is just a clown, an actor. Obviously, it helps that he had experience with a reality show. In my opinion he has been casted well, as he is very convincing for the narrative we are being sold.

The idea that history or any political events can somehow be animated by the personality of one person is incredibly childish.

Trump represents a group of people. There are clear signs that this group is winning. I guess it went over your head what just happened to CIA. I will leave it at that, do your own research, although if you are a glowie, you probably just seethe, and you know very well what I am talking about. Seethe in silence, there is nothing you can do

He benefited from a lot of events that were coincidentally happening back in 2015-2016. The 2015 Paris shooting, the Pulse shooting - the fact that he promised his supporters to ''keep Muslims out of the united states'' really helped him. I don't think he would have won without the perfect storm of events. He really didn't have much of a plat form either.

That i can see. You are right it is more independents that switched more then outright Republicans or people more in the middle.

I agree on Trump he was being unfairly maligned a lot when it was fucking nothing. The issue was that Trump both had some big stupid things and a lot of nothing.

Trying to buy Greenland, The Wall, His trade war with Europe, Trade war with Canada and so on. Are all things that in the end was kind of "Nothing" and had no big change in how things work for random Joe in America, so it makes him look weak.

He brought back industry to the US with incentives. This is true, but random Joe would not see a benefit from this because new industry means more automation. Then he also threw money at fracking and the oil industry over more renewable energy sources. This created a few job's but there you have a lot of ohter issues plaguing that kind of work so it is limited what Random Joe would see in his daily life. Stock Market is up, but you are still as poor as before.

Then Covid. In a lot of countries there is a sense of solidarity and working towards a common goal. The US response was poor, now this was not only Trumps fault and there is a ton of reasons for this, but having Trump go out and claim all kinds of stupid shit about Covid did not endear him as a strong figure. Even if a lot of the problem in the US is not a 100% his fault he has a tendency to scream a lot about things.
