Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

Assuming the orange man manages to succeed and the site dies because of it, it's been a fun ride of 7-8 years.
Even if Cheeto Hitler doesn't do it, someone else will, and no one's going to defend the right of KF or Nahtzees on the Internet or any other "fringe" demographic to say whatever on the Internet. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. People have been trying to fuck with the Internet for a while now, and they really only need one win. The "defenders" have to win every time, and the "defenders" are neither good enough at it nor inclined to fight this forever.

In any event, quit trying to make me care, Null. I'm over it.

I don't doubt it. Null mentioned Biden having identical intentions to repealing it. I can only imagine some people thinkign "yay, the shitty troll forum is gone" while there's much more at stake than just a hugbox of rando idiots losing a forum. And all this said, it may as well be inevitable in being fucked over so we may as well just be ready for it.

I don't think anybody is looking at us specifically. Outside of maybe a couple of reddits and twitter threads, not a lot of people really know what kiwifarms is, and even less would care.

I don't doubt us being on the radar of a few discords and Twitter threads. What I meant by that was visualizing some lolcows and spergs going "yay" at the Farms going down before they resume being idiots online or accusing people they don't like of being Kiwi Farmers that are out to haunt them. Outside of 230 meaning the forum's gone, the only thing I wondered about is how the landscape of the internet will change and what other websites get affected by it aside from some place like Reddit or Google.

Man the potential outcomes here are great. If Biden takes over they'll replace 230 with a bill that is built specifically to fuck over websites that have wrong think, and if Trump somehow keeps it in then we'll end up with a complete wildcard as to whether he nukes 230 entirely or replaces it with something that only might be good. Glorious odds there. That being said the coast looks clear for now, but I don't know if I really trust newsweek.
Honestly, the potential outcomes would have been a lot better if we'd been actually willing to all pull our heads out of the ground for long enough to accept that Section 230 is not only doomed, but we should be amazed it lasted this long given that we owe its existence pretty much entirely to big tech companies not wanting to waste money that could be lining their execs' bank accounts on human moderators or risk getting their assholes spread so wide that they could take multiple horse dicks at the same time. (And it's been a very open secret that was why it exists.)

I can't help but think we'd have a better chance of something good if we'd admitted sooner that it wasn't worth saving. Admittedly, if we're willing to settle for 'better at protecting free speech than 230' we definitely have an option already written up, but that mostly is because that's such a low bar that the only way not to clear it is if you didn't even try.

What's funny though is all the tards celebrating the farms being gone would get shoahed too. RPGnet forums prove beyond a reasonable doubt that hyper censorship is basically a massive game of musical chairs, but with bans.

You would need to instill a genuine appreciation for the notion that people are allowed to have opinions you don't like, and occasionally voice them as well, in a population that by and large is utterly incapable of this until it hits THEM in particular. Ask your average bystander if he or she thinks someone should be able to make Holocaust jokes, call people fat and ugly, espouse controversial political stances openly or otherwise say things they vehemently disagree with, and tell me when you lose count of the number of times people either play the "I'm for free speech, BUT" card.

Control of the Internet and what you see on it will become even further solidified under an oligopoly of fucking assholes with a gentleman's agreement to not meaningfully compete with one another as they fuck you and everything you love raw and bloody for a few extra pennies.

Does this mean Twitter will also be snapped out of existence? If not, migration from here to there may make the site fucking remotely tolerable. Still, this is lame, even if I try and cope with it thinking "oh this means sites that DESERVE to be gone will be gone". :optimistic:

Yeah the troons and far left would be just as fucked.

Normies on twitter and Facebook probably won't even notice it's gone.

The chaos candidate we thought was going to fix everything, who was elected because of the internet, is the one who kills the internet. HAHAHA the perfect ending, the backlash against everyone who thought they "memed" him into the presidency. How's that for 6D chess? And zoomers get to be the generation that was entirely born into and always surrounded by the internet, might have to learn to live without it unless only the big normgroid sites remain. I love it.

The internet will be a much less funny and entertaining place without this website around for folks to peruse. But I totally understand Null's POV and risks. Godspeed dude, if it comes to that.

I liked trump for a lot of reasons but will forever despise him for killing my laughs if this goes through because of his sperging.

It has been a pleasure shitposting with you gentlemen.
