Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I just said people manage to make indy comics without CG.

Oh I see. Well I guess there's no denying that then.

Let's move on to a more entertaining subject, like media mail.

Steve Ditko was crowdfunding on Kickstarter to the tune of $5,000 per book. Even the guy who co-created Spider-Man and Doctor Strange didn't do so well in crowdfunding.

This always makes me so sad. This is the ultimate case study in "marketing is everything", and Ditko was so stubborn he didn't believe in promoting his own books at all, thought it tainted the work. He went so far as to refusing to even describe what the CONTENTS of the book were in the kickstarters because "readers should be surprised and not have anything spoiled." A super tragedy. I back all of the Ditko stuff and I think I'm the only person out there who actually reviews his indie books.

Not sure what benefit is gained by granting power to a guy who calls you a "phoqing backstabbing phoq" fifty times per stream but for what it's worth I hear he's already banned two people over nothing
The worst part about Sketch being a wrench is he keeps saying "refund Nasser and back this other book instead."
Steve Ditko was also a half century past his prime and in the habit of telling the world to go fuck it-self. Not great marketing for crowd funding.
But he's still Ditko. People like Ditko. They like his creations, and they're intrigued by his choice to be a recluse and not answer any questions. Honestly I just think most people didn't even know about his Kickstarters.

Donal Delay encounters shipping problems with Brutas. Is this real or just an excuse?
excuse after excuse and lie after lie with donal. there's absolutely 0 reason to believe anything he says anymore.

I don’t get why FROG keeps putting Sketch on a pedestal. That guy is lame and most of his fans can’t stand the guy.

What's your point?

Ditko hadn't been relevant in the mainstream for 30 years (since Speedball) when he did crowd funders. He never had or ever tried to cultivate the kind of stroke Lee or Kirby had among fans. He was a maverick who walked away from the mainstream on principle saying 'fuck you and your money' to the big two in the 70's and even the 60's. (Spider-Man was the best paying gig of his life when he told Stan to fuck off over disagreements on character development)

Why would Ditko's later esoteric works that thumbed their nose to commercial comics do big business in the 2010's? Ditko created Mister A in the 60's when he was still a huge deal and no one bought it. Why would they start buying it 60 years later? If Ditko had tried to fund one of his mainstream properties (obviously he couldn't) he would have made huge cash.

The same thing happened with Jack Kirby's indy line in the 80's and 90's. Kirby had support from huge names and a successful indy publishing company (Pacific and later Topps), and actually courted success unlike Ditko but garnered little in the indy market.

Is it any surprise that a recluse who shunned the mainstream, didn't care about marketing and hadn't done any high profile work for decades didn't light the world on fire with his Kickstarters? He was probably content to cover his printing costs at that point considering his 'I don't give a fuck about getting rich' attitude.

Ditko was the kind of artist who just did what he wanted and let the chips fall where they may. He likely didn't care about most people not knowing about his KS.

Comparing Ditko to ComicsGate, which is all about promotion, is like comparing apples to Big Mac's.

You tell us. He only responds to you. It's your sideshow, go wrangle your freaks.

Marketing may not be everything if money isn't everything, but money is where the marketing is. As I understand it he had a better financial setup than Kirby did so he could afford to do it his way.

Ditko was great. He spent his most of his career telling the everyone he didn't like to fuck off and damn the consequences.

Big brass ones.

He's probably been a net positive for your redemption arc. He's so egregiously heavy-handed in his campaign against you that some of the "Kick Nasser" people are subconsciously softening their stance just to disassociate with his particular brand of insanity.

Probably for the same reason he felt compelled to read every lame attempt at attention whoring from JabbaTheCuck for two years straight.

Preston 'I don't plow my own furrow' Poulter has posted up episode four of 'season 2' of Last Week In Comicsgate. Parts of it are typically old news, going over TUG's Paul Revere act, or uninteresting. There are a few points and happenings that catch my attention, though. And so I pass it on, second hand, like a latter-day Clownfish TV.

After a brief mention that copies of Tales From The Stacks and Brutas are turning up in the wild, Preston quickly moves on to another instance of hype fatigue appearing within the ranks of the comicsgate faithful. Newish youtuber 'Inch High Comic Guy' questions the relevance of Ya Boi Zack, wondering "what has the Richard ever done for us anyway?" We see Inch High give Zack's book Pandemic a verbal kicking at the 2:57 mark, before echoing @Mecha in laying into the rest of comicsgate's offerings at around 6:26. Only Uncle Frog can do no wrong in his eyes.

As Preston points out, this could be a growing trend in comicsgate. Will Inch High be declared apostate for maligning the Jesus of comicsgate, or will he be fine as long as he still kisses the ring of its Pope Alexander VI? Which way will the weathervane of Frog's loyalties turn if this ill wind continues to blow? Will he side with his friend over his customers? Are there any precedents we could examine?

Most of the rest of the video is inconsequential: Preston plugging his book, Ro Kabir reminiscing about the days when you could beat someone in the street, huddled muttering about the most controversial comic book of 2020 Charlie's London, the tattered remains of WC clawing eachother's eyes out like drunken Jersey housewives, Liam Grey being a colossal idiot for the umpteenth time.

There are mentions of three events scattered through the video, though. Small things, grains of sand, not much by themselves - but something that can be added to the heap of conjecture about Ethan's trustworthiness:

Independent Comics Empire. The proposed successor to the 'comicsgate' label, later unveiled as a prank. It's a little obvious when the acronym of your assumedly less political comic imprint is 'ICE', but a lot of comicsgaters apparently fell for it - well, less 'fell for it' and more 'trotted along behind, bleating' - and if Preston is to be believed, EVS's newest Luca Brazi - Sketch Therapy - has been taking names. Why is that?

Indiegogo refunds. Etsy Boy Stu brings up the fact that if you back your own indiegogo, anything you contribute to boost your numbers is automatically refunded at the end of the campaign. Ethan had seventy refunded corrugated honeycomb boxes to offer after the Rekt Planet campaign finished. Coincidence?
No surprise which conclusion I'd jump to. Although to give the benefit of the doubt, I'd like to know a little more about indiegogo's workings. If these boxes were legitimately refunded during the campaign, are they immediately offered up again to other backers, or is the whole lot held onto until the end?

The martyr Ro Kabir Kumar. Ro's wife was ill. He told Ethan. Big secret, hush hush. Jon Malin, already on the outs with Ro, knew about it. "Did you tell him, Ethan?" "Yup."

Inch High Comic Guy's youtube channel, if anyone is interested. He has - wow - four videos on his Pandemic rant.

you lost, bruh. Get over it. And Chuck Dixon has been dealing with a CG a long time. As evidenced with his work with Zack and association with Sweetcast.
He works with Vox Day too. He'll work with whoever pays him as long as it's something he likes. If Marvel offered him a pirate book without too many strings he'd write that in a heartbeat.

Agreed. Sometimes you have someone take a beating to endear you and everyone hates sketch therapy. he's the reverse ghandi, uniting others in their loathing.

Looks real to me. Also looks like an excuse, so.... why can't it be both?

I think Donal has proven his abject incompetence at this point.
It’s especially interesting because about two months ago, I explained that using Media Mail would lead to this very problem, and Vikki retardedly told me I was wrong. Vociferously.

People could just ask me.

1. I don't care about Inch High Comic Guy's reviews of Zack or anyone else. It doesn't affect me at all. If it's not detrimental to my livelihood, it means nothing to me.

2. ICE was a joke made in a livestream a year ago, when asked if we'd ever rename ComicsGate after the "war" was over. Last week, someone asked me if we could become ICE now, and so I decided to make the same joke on a larger platform, where SJWs could see it. A lot of people legitimately like the idea. I do too, but ComicsGate is too well tied to my branding at this point, having been used in commerce for the last 2-3 years.

3. I had never backed my own campaigns, nor has anyone representing me backed my campaigns. Someone purchased 70 Honeycomb Boxes as an investment when I said that I'd be reselling leftovers for $1000. They agreed it'd be a good investment. Then that customer decided they didn't like me anymore, and demanded refunds on those 70 boxes.

When I say, "HAD never backed," it's because just now I decided to test the theory that IGG doesn't let you back your own campaigns, and forces refunds, on CYBERFROG 2: REKT PLANET. Which is In Demand.

There was no issue. I was allowed to back my own campaign. So whoever came up with the idea that IGG automatically refunds your own purchases on your campaign is a lying retard. If I wanted to back my own campaign 70 times, I could.

But I didn't, because I'm not trying to fabricate numbers, I'm trying to make money. Had there been extra Honeycomb Boxes, I would have sold them on eBay at a huge mark up, as I'm doing successfully with all of my product now.

4. Ro V. Jon. I definitely had my reasons. That was some dark shit brewing there.

Impressive.

You seem awfully proud that you were right about Donal. And only 3 years late and a fucked up crowdfund short.

Good for you.
