Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

2 out of 1000 doesn't change whether you have 100 people or 100 million people.
It does because of viral load, hospital capacity and the number of health professionals it takes out.

That'd be like saying the Common European adder is deadlier than the Inland Taipan because the former has killed more than the later.
It's more like saying there are more adders in one place compared to another place.

The vast majority of those who get severely sick are past working age anyways.
It's not the majority, but it's still a significant amount, I've had coworkers catch it quite severly (not ICU bad but still very bad).

There is zero proof that businesses, wages and employment would have suffered nearly as hard had their been no lockdown and no forced measures in place.
Literally just look at any country that properly enforced measures (South Korea, China, Taiwan, New Zealand, etc), they're all pretty much back in business meanwhile countries that either half-assed or didn't have lockdowns are still dealing with both the virus and economic turmoil. I'm convinced at this point that certain countries are intentionally sabotaging efforts to combat the virus in order to expand big business.

It's a cultural issue. Look at Japan. All they do is wear masks. Everything is fine there.

The county where I live in the US is doing fine. Because people wear masks and make an attempt at social distancing. We have been spared the screaming snowflakes whining about their constitutional rights because they've been unduly forced to put a fucking piece of fabric over their mouths.

for the umpteenth time i like to ask: how are people still scaremongering over covid when the vaccine is being actively distributed at this point? why do they still feel the need to guilt people into staying home and wearing masks and whatever?

Demoralization and social pressure is a hell of a fucking thing.

The amount of public money that’s been siphoned off to private hands during 2020 is eye watering. Apparently 10.5 BILLION to BLM, with zero oversight. And fuck knows how much due to COVID. What % of GDP has gone to this in a year will be interesting. And almost all of it to private firms with almost no oversight or tendering process.
I don’t see any so called left wingers getting mad about this. When it’s the biggest drain of public money to unaccountable private hands in recent history.

Boris the fuckwit has just announced that uk.gov have invented a new tier 4 for even more restrictions on people. the south east is in it, travel in and out is restricted, everything is shut down. families can only meet up on christmas day everywhere else. He blamed a "new variant" for the change of tack. I bet they'll call it covid 20 so that the factcheckers can call "covid 21" a conspiracy theory.

I'm entirely expecting him to cancel christmas nationwide next week. Probably on christmas eve, just to make it that much more frustrating.
But it's a new mutation! It has much more infectivity than plain old covid. This is COVID-20!

Which has me wondering why the hell they're still allowing international travel, potentially spreading this new mutation and making the cure-all vaccines all but useless, but I'm obviously not trusting the science enough.

Video of arrest at Calgary rink results in accusations of police ‘going overboard’

Excerpt:
The female cop is overcompensating so damn hard. They can't even take down a random dude on ice skates. What makes me think I can trust them against real criminals?

It's okay because these corporations virtue-signal to their hearts content. They're on the "right" side of history.

It might be the greatest transfer of wealth from the middle- and lower-classes to the elite since the Industrial Revolution, but they said #BlackLivesMatter in public, so they're good.

My state governor has extended her "emergency" powers until March (watch as it get gets extended to June).

There's no end to this. Our leaders simply don't give a shit that their actions are leading all of us into a depression.

How very true. THEY never miss a paycheck. Bet no county has instituted a moratorium on paying property taxes, either. Gotta make sure all those useless fucks get paid. The county I live in wanted their money, on time. Fuck them. The longer this shit goes, the higher the likelihood people will start taking direct action.

Looks like they're trying to ban it by stopping you from travelling abroad if you're in a tier 4 area, so that takes care of the two big airports plus the Tunnel and ferries.

You know I am actually personally fine with following the basic directions even if they only help stop the spread a little bit, but the minute sanctimonious re,tards like you pop up with these specious fucking arguments is the same minute that I tell you to take your face condom along with a fistful of broken glass and shove it up your fucking ass repeatedly.

The masks and lockdowns don't do shit. If they did, places like NY and Cali would have no new cases.

Why should I wear a mask? Because it makes fags like you feel safe? How about you stop pushing your mental illness on everybody, you selfish fuck.

NZ are an island with low international traffic so it’s easy for them to quarantine people plus it’s summer there - we would expect to see low rates down under anyway. But what they’ve done is stamp it out and kick the can down the road. Their only exit strategy now is vaccination. Japan and SE Asia generally have done very well. There you have a mix of things - an homogenous, compliant population, widespread test and trace done better than we did but also they’ve focused on size of spreading events, so they’ve been more sensible generally.
BUT, and it’s a big BUT, there also seems to be some inbuilt resistance anyway, either on a genetic susceptibility level and/or on a prior immunity level.

The new mutation is irrelevant - it’s an excuse to lock down hard. Faster spread usually comes with lower virulence, but we will see... The airports stayed open because the elite travel, and restrictions are for plebs. It’s all so very depressing

Japan and China have very low obesity rates and very low rates of associated co morbidities like heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Covid is btfoing Burgerland right now because Amerifats are unhealthy and fat as fuck.

Instead of arguing about dumb shit we should be seriously stressing the dangers of obesity and poor diet because this is what happens when you don't. Covid has a 0.3 kill rate and 300k are dead, what happens when something with a 5% or higher kill rate comes along? Amerifats are fucked.

The adult center near me has all of their retards wearing masks correctly.

How can you not manage it? What does that say about you? Are you more developmentally disabled than they are?

im not sure about that, their numbers also go up now that flu season is around and their death numbers arent so much better that it couldnt be explained with a different culture towards the elderly.

Because the vaccine's seems sketchy as fuck
I'm hopeful that the people who have been lying every step of the way through this ordeal are probably being truthful about the rushed, experimental drugs they're threatening to force into us.

That guy is addicted to his COVID fame and is making up melodramatic stories. He's probably also an insufferably fake piece of shit in general.

So Dr. Bugman went to his car and sobbed afterward? Seriously?

In his spare time, Dr. Tabatabai loves to travel, play guitar, and play the role of Darth Vader for the Star Wars Society of San Antonio for various charitable causes.

Dr. Sayed Tabatabai narrates his speculative fiction Twitter thread on what the world will look like post-pandemic.
[...]
TABATABAI: (Reading) A voice asks me. Warm but not too hot, I answer. The shower starts. The water's perfect. The doors slide open, and I step into the main lobby. The banner is large, covering the main entrance archway, COVID-19 echoes from the past. People smile at me as I slowly make my way. I nod and smile in return. We're all masked here. They're just invisible, masks made by nanotechnology, see through and almost impossible to feel. The only way you know someone is wearing one is a green light on their ID badge. If you're not wearing one at this conference, you get a flashing red light and a quick visit from a detox team. I enter the main lecture hall. There is an eerie silence. Of course, I'm one of the few people attending in person. Most people don't risk crowds anymore. They haven't for decades. I make my way to an empty seat on the stage and sit down. The moderator welcomes me. People want to know what it was like. I understand that. Since COVID-19, there have been several others - COVID-35, FluVar-59 (ph). But people want to know about the original. After all, our original mistakes are what changed everything, original scent. The first lecture is presenting the so-called American aberrancy.
TABATABAI: (Reading) It's hard to describe to people nowadays what that mindset was like. Global warming has destroyed most of our nationalistic tendencies. We survive together. I wrote down notes on cards. Archaic, I know, but I like the way they feel. I described those first few news broadcasts.
TABATABAI: (Reading) I finished my remarks on a note of hope. I described the vaccines and therapies that brought us out of the darkness and helped mitigate the subsequent waves. I described the investment in our health care systems and the massive societal overhauls as change finally came. Afterwards, I'm making my way back to the elevator. A young woman walks up to greet me. She says her name and says she is a medical student and wanted to ask me a question but not in front of everyone. I smile and say hello. It's nice to talk to a person in the flesh. You said you lost people you knew. I nod. Almost everyone did in the end. Everyone knew someone. Did you lose something, too, a part of you? I know what she's asking. We rarely discuss it. Some scars never leave you. I smile and say nothing.

I'm convinced at this point that 99% of anti-maskers are literally just people who are so scared of even mild discomfort that they're unwilling to endure it even for the sake of other people. Stop being a pussy or you're not gonna survive the next 10 years.

>Mention how I work in a half-face respirator, for hours and hours at a time (sometimes 2-3 hours without doffing)... performing rapid manual tasks in and out of doors, and to add to that I'm frequently in confined spaces that are normally ~90 degrees and reach 105-110 degrees (they actually reach well over that but you're not supposed to be in there at that point).

"OMG HAHA U R SO PUSSY U R SUCH PUSSY THAT U SCARED OF MILD DISCOMFORT, 99.8% SURVIVAL RATE MEANS U BE DEAD IN A DECADE"

Indeed I am such a pussy that I can (and have) literally quit my job and get (gotten) another in any town or city in America within days, because no one has really wanted to do this work for a long time. What are you supposed to be, a computer janitor? Can you lift your own weight off the floor or are you shaped more like a woman?

Imagine that other (not good) poster telling ME I'm a bad gambler because I'm ignoring a (now-known) tail risk, in fact the kind of tail risk that is associated with simply existing on Earth and no one normally takes into consideration... because doing so would drive you mad and/or consign you to a padded clean room for the rest of your life. I hope they don't let you into casinos for your own sake, even dumbass lottery addicts don't think consider under 1% to be significant odds of 'winning'.

You know I actually assumed that if you're complaining you're at least wearing a full face but you're literally here whining about wearing a half face and acting like working in 90 degree heat is something that you deserve a pat on the back for.

Japan also had more suicides in October than all deaths from covid the entire year source
But sure keep lockdowns coming, covid is the only thing that matters.
