Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

There doesn't seem to be much organized information out there, since this is all strictly amateur and a violation of Lenovo's IP.
The forums on 51nb.com are where the mad Chinamen behind the motherboards congregate if you want to go digging around in there.
English-speakers tend to either go to Reddit or the Thinkpad forums:
https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.php?f=80

A couple of reviews with teardowns:

The custom motherboards are proprietary so there aren't any schematics or anything like that. You do have to take it on trust, but the massive autists in the Thinkpad scene seem to be fine with it.
I wouldnt use a propietary chinese board, how do they know theres nothing phoning home?

You could say the same about retail Lenovos, or any other brand of computer really.
I suspect the custom boards are ultimately based on some leaked Lenovo production schematics and just tweaked and rearranged, so for the most part it should be no better or worse than that. And the project is small and amateur enough that I doubt the CCP intervened directly just for it.

It's not just the CCP who will spy on you and steal your info.

Just wanted to come here and gush about how badly I missed RSS. I used to keep up with a lot of stuff via RSS when I was in high school, but social media gradually eclipsed my need for RSS since Facebook had the trending bar for a while. Having deleted Facebook, I've been sorely out of the loop with global happenings. What's worse is that "alternatives" to traditional RSS readers like Firefox Pocket and Brave Today are fucking appalling in terms of relevance to the things that I'm interested in. Google News is nice, but I detest the idea of algorithmically editing my search results. Plus, it makes posting articles to A&H so much easier because there isn't as much garbage for me to highlight around.

Maybe it's just because I spent most of my childhood in my dad's office, but man I miss computers like these

I even did a sleeper PC build with an i7 1080GTX built inside one of those old Dell Dimension 2400 cases. Kinda wish I didn't sell it.

Maybe it is a nostalgia thing, but I do feel the older desktop stuff had more character. Looking at PC parts and all of the "gamer" shit is just fucking vile. I don't want LEDs, I dont want glass everywhere, just give me a good airflow and something sturdy and not autistic looking, holy shit. I know it's dumb to ignore parts based on aesthetics, but I fucking hate the "gamer" aesthetic, the cases, the chairs, everything.

Hey man, gamer chairs are actually really comfortable (he says as he tries to justify that purchase from 3-4 months ago)

I keep saying it everywhere it comes up but the best way to avoid these kind of injuries is to move more. As simple as that. I had some very "un-ergonomic" working spaces over the years and I never developed a single problem. I'm not surprised though that people get screwed up backs if they sit in one place for 6-8 hours.

Cannot stand everything being RGB nowadays.

I don't mind having LEDs, nor do I mind having them RGB as long as it's minimalistic and gives me options for solid colors. It's easily the worst trend to come out in the past decade or so and just makes the cost of getting a PC or parts.

I also miss that off-white eggshell color PC peripherals and equipment came in. It just feels comfy for me.

It is most definitely nostalgia, but those old pc's had a utilitarian personality that are missing in most modern pc's. And yeah, I have "gamer" aesthetic pc's as well.

I've been using variants of this for 20 years and they're great for many reasons. One reason is that I can't tangle my feet into the spokes for the wheels, I like to do that and it's not good. Good for posture as well.

These were invented by Satan himself.
